breadandcheese Posted 13 April 2008 Posted 13 April 2008 I could have sworn after Howard was signed that Holloway said his ideal front-choice pairing was Howard and Hume, yet he barely plays them together. Like a lot of people, my front choice pairing would be Hume and Howard. DJ would only ever start on the bench to use his pace in the final 20 minutes as defenders legs are tiring.
Ultra Posted 13 April 2008 Posted 13 April 2008 Why have you singled out Fryatt ? and no i dont rate him. Because he's been consistently sh!te for the last three months. When he went clear on goal late on, I knew he was going to waste the chance, and so did he. The manager's continued faith in him is a major reason why we're going down. Howard was woeful today. As were most of the players in a blue shirt, except for Hume and maybe Hayles.
Daggers Posted 13 April 2008 Posted 13 April 2008 Because he's been consistently sh!te for the last three monthstwo seasons. Yup.
Simi Posted 13 April 2008 Posted 13 April 2008 I think my decision to say Hume and Fryatt last night may of been a little rash. We seemed to create chances when they came on yesterday, but at the time we did that in the first 20 minutes. Fryatt's chance was a sitter, lets face it. He did exactly what he's done all season and took to long and wasted the opportunity. We need strikers that look like they're going to score. Strikers that will create for others. I still live in hope that a Hume and Howard partnership would work for us. Due to injuries and blatant stupidity from Holloway we've only seen it once? Against Coventry. To be honest, it's the best partnership we've had this season. Campbell and Howard threatened to take off, but it didn't. Hume and Fryatt do seem to have a very good understanding with each other, one of the reasons I went with them pair. Hume's got goals in him as we've seen yesterday. Fryatt has probably looked the second most likely, but as Fez said, after yesterday his confidence will probably be an all time low, I think a lot on here are left wondering what might of happened had he taken one of his guilt edge chances in recent games. The way we're approaching games at the moment, it looks like Hume and Howard would be the most beneficial. Yesterday we worked the ball into good wide areas, yet the final ball was lacking. Which is always going to happen when you play Hayles wide, Bell was a letdown with his final ball however. Hume and Howard, both are decent in the air, proved they can do it in this league as well. So yeah, Hume and Howard for me.
Kilworthfox Posted 13 April 2008 Posted 13 April 2008 Yup. Fryatt does not even finish relatively easy chances now. It's time to sell him People seem to think he is still good so we should get a good price £500k +

Too many times with Holloway, it seems to be drawing players names out of a hat for team selection. Hayles did well but as you say, he was never going to play passes to unlock defences, or great balls into the box. Our team selections at the moment are a waste.

Each player should complement the next. Barry Hayles on the left wing, does not complement Steve Howard up front. I'm pretty sure Holloway knows that, yet he persists with it all the same. It's painfully obvious you won't win football matches like that. I'm not getting at Hayles, I appreciated the work he put in, I thought he was one of our better players yesterday. At the moment, our midfield should be.. Bell Oakley Weso Hendrie All of them can create chances, they've shown that already. We've just got to hope we can take the odd one!

Is anyone going to offer more effort then Baz does? Baz on the wing it is then
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 13 April 2008 Author Posted 13 April 2008 Yup. Your sig is quality, but if you want an Adam and Joe song, why not the De Niro Calypso?
Father Ted Posted 13 April 2008 Posted 13 April 2008 I'll say it again. Hume is our best player. So he should be played in his best position. Definitely our best striker. And what was Holloway thinking when he swapped Campbell and Hayles around. I thought Bazza was doing really well on the wing and Campbell was doing fine upfront. And Fryatt

Hendrie may be a better centre mid, but he is the best player we have down the left so that's where we need him to play. Hayles on the wing is madness, but then who is his replacement? Is anyone going to offer more effort then Baz does? Baz on the wing it is then See above. Hendrie should playe there and Weso in the middle. You know you will get the same effort as Hayles with Weso, only Weso is actually a midfielder.
Manwell Pablo Posted 14 April 2008 Posted 14 April 2008 Was thinking about this earlier. Hume and Howard are the only strikers we have with anything resembling goal scoreing form, I still do think Fryatt looks lively and certainly seems to be getting into decent enough positions to miss at least one sitter in every game he's played in recently but he's lacking so much confidence and can't seem to hit a cows arse wth a banjo at the moment. I'd have him on the bench. Campbells just a monumental waste of money, Barry Hayles was only a good signing if you appericate the comic side of football, and ignoreing all things said about Hammond as he did manage more goals last season than pretty much all of strikers have this season bar Hume, recalling Elvis Hammond to our starting squad before he's even played a game for the reserves after a 9 month lay off will get us nowhere.
BigGibbo Posted 14 April 2008 Posted 14 April 2008 Howard & Hume & both up front in the old fashioned sense none of this link man bullshish!
Tilley Posted 14 April 2008 Posted 14 April 2008 Hume & Fryatt misses everything. Howard is laazzzyyy & has one dolid good game & that was against ten men. Hayles, I couldn't fault him against Colchester. Campbell has played well for me but cannot score. I'd say Hume & Hayles/Campbell. Drop Howard, he needs a kick up his arse.
Mark Posted 14 April 2008 Posted 14 April 2008 Hume (with a midfield of) Hayles -------- Hendrie -------- Etuhu -------- Oakley - Wesolowski Seeing as everything else has failed.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 14 April 2008 Author Posted 14 April 2008 Alot of comments on here about Fryatts confidence. Would throwing him in a reserve game help at all?
dandannieldanok Posted 14 April 2008 Posted 14 April 2008 Etuhu can play centre forward on football manager
Joe. Posted 14 April 2008 Posted 14 April 2008 Hume for sure. But the other I'm not so sure about. I'd go for Howard. But he's got to book his ideas up after Saturday's shambles.
Father Ted Posted 14 April 2008 Posted 14 April 2008 Etuhu can play centre forward on football manager Yep. Plays better as a Centre Attacking Midfielder though.
