lildave3 Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 That would be seriously good if a REAL horn was playing the PHG as the players emerged from the tunnel. You mean like Henry did?
thecannon Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 If the crowd inspire the players, the players will then play for the team and the crowd and feel a part of the club. If they don't like the crowd then they won't come here because like all chancers, they always get caught out when there bullshitting. If you give 100% and you have a crap game, the crowd will still give you an applause, if you give 5% and say '**** you, I don't care what they say, I still get £10,000 for this crap' then we don't want you here. Go away. good point
Munzie Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 Seriously though, this just won't work. Something is required. Look at Jobber the drummer's move to the Kop recently. That got the crowd going.
thecannon Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 Seriously though, this just won't work. Probably not. . you never know
lildave3 Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 Henry? What have I missed? Henry! The guy who played PHG as the teams were coming out...
General Smuts Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 Henry! The guy who played PHG as the teams were coming out... I sat next to him during the Leicester Vs East Bengal Kingfishers game. I got on John Barnes' footie programme cos of that. Tastic. On the horn section front. I enjoyed it for one game at Lincoln but it didn't really work and wouldn't encourage its introduction at the Walkers. Was quite good being sat on top of it but no one really sang along with it and they just sort of played to themselves. Was a bit tepid really.
iancognito Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 What we need isn't instruments Mav, it's singers. Like one or two people have said, the sterile atmosphere is from the happy clappers who don't know the songs and are more than happy to clap politely when we string two passes together and boo mildly when we don't. They'll also be the ones leaving with 10 minutes to go. As someone who's spent most of his City life between The Kop & the Double Decker and then the new Kop & L & K Block, I can honestly say that there has been nothing like that Pen 1 and 2 feeling since. The design of the stadium never had atmosphere in mind and the one tiered approach has just spread the people from one smaller section (pen) into a much wider area. Sitting Jobber at the back of the East Stand has helped because the guy is like a one-man drumathon. Just when everyone's flagging a bit, he pops up with a new beat to keep everyone going. At the moment, there are people in the Kop trying to spark it off, pockets in L & K block next to the away fans too. There would need to be a concerted attempt to get everyone together in one block to give a real focus to the singing. Songbooks, brass bands and the like are good ideas but some people are just there to fill a couple of hours and go home again. They don't want to stand, don't want to sing and don't want to be noticed. It's better to focus on the people we have got that do want to create an atmosphere, rather than wasting our time with people that don't.
Leicester Rule! Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 The band at Sheff W got banned from playing instruments ... so they play at England games. Not the best of atmosphere, but to be honest, it will be an improvement of what the KOP is at the moment.
Shrenchel Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 It's never gunna be the pens at filbo. The ground's just not designed that way, the rules/stewards are far more stringent about behaviour and too many of the lads have stopped going and been replaced by a more subdued fan. However, that doesn't mean it can be fooking great. On the few occassions where the Walkers has really got going, comparisons with the Flibo kop have been the last thing on my mind. You can blame the lack of atmosphere on a lot of things but when we've got the two groups of people that wanna sing sitting so far apart in a ground that doesn't carry the noise, it's partly our own fault. I know some lads in the kop are doing a cracking job of trying to make it resmeble a 'kop' still but personally I think the sooner people get over to L/K the better. Hopefully more people will this season, which will help dispell some of the myths about it being just a bunch of wannabe casuals up for a row and gradually more people will move and we'll be able to create some fooking noise.
Kilworthfox Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 So the Anfield Kop has a brass band in it God I hope this brass section is a fookin joke! this is the football laddy not the Albert hall
wurmer Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 This is pretty straight forward - let's put it this way, if someone started to play a trumpet near me at a game, they would end up wearing it as a decorative hat, or playing it anally. I know I won't be alone in this. And besides, it will sound stupid in a half-full stadium too - don't we have the 'wrong sort of concrete' to host music (events) anyways - could bring the stand crashing down
Daggers Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 Such a shame you'll miss out on this when you move to the depths of chav-dom. I prefer men. Men in hats.
Kilworthfox Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 I prefer men.Men in hats. Atmosphere L1! The Kop is dead long live the Kop
Mav Posted 10 May 2008 Author Posted 10 May 2008 Thank you to all of your replies, I'm just trying to throw about ideas to try and see if anyone else can think of something to bring about a bigger atmosphere to the stands. I appreciate all of your comments and look forward to seeing you all down there next season, hopefully everybody singing and dancing! Come on City!
BrockwellFox Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 i reckon it would be alright for a few games but then get a bit tedious tbh.. what i would prefer is a couple more of those fooken huge drums, the ones that make your ribcage vibrate, placed strategically around the ground for maximum effect. maybe a few thousand opera singers to do the carmina burana before the game as well..

Succinct, funny, true. Top marks. In an unrelated matter I achieved Grade 1 Trumpet some years ago and gave up after that.

Naboo Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 Who's trumpet am I going to have to blow to get a brass band round here???
davieG Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 Who's trumpet am I going to have to blow to get a brass band round here??? Is that a Euphemism or a Euphonium
SamL Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 It's a no from me, I don't think it would help things in the slightest. Health and Safety would have a field day. All them trumpets could knock someone out you know? A brass section isn't required to make a decent atmosphere as is proved elsewhere. We have to create an atmosphere ourselves.
westbridgfordreds Posted 11 May 2008 Posted 11 May 2008 In my language, a 'brass' is a lady of ill-repute. Having a section for them in the Kop would certainly spice it up a bit. I am in favour. You seem such an articulate fellow bob ,im amazed you have an interest in these ladies! Hold on there s a symbolic meaning you pay to watch the team and the ladies and they both go down, cool!
