Alexikokopops Posted 14 March 2013 Posted 14 March 2013 10 miles? Makes my little triumph of hitting 6 miles a bit depressing Hope your nipples recover soon though I put some Vaseline on them before this morning's run. Then I spent 20 minutes walking around the flat making wincing noises. WHY DO I NEVER LEARN?????
FoxesAreBlue Posted 16 March 2013 Posted 16 March 2013 Can't sleep so looking at my times etc from last year's London Marathon and among the stats is one that says in the final 7km I passed 2610 people and 0 passed me! The average speed over the four 10k sections 1st 10k - 10.3kmh 2nd 10k - 10.5kmh 3rd 10k - 10.3kmh 30k to finish - 11.4kmh!

Bear in mind that you may have ran further, it gets tiring knocking people off the blue line. My GPS tracked me doing about 27.5 when I last ran it.

Ozwin Posted 17 March 2013 Posted 17 March 2013 Do you have to raise a certain amount or fulfil certain criteria to do the London Marathon? Would love to do it next year.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 17 March 2013 Posted 17 March 2013 Do you have to raise a certain amount or fulfil certain criteria to do the London Marathon? Would love to do it next year. Two options: 1) Enter the ballot and get a place that way, his is often over subscribed several times over so you're lucky if you get in. 2) Pay for a guaranteed place through one of the charities who will ask you to raise a minimum amount, usually around £2000, often this is harder than the actual training itself.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 17 March 2013 Posted 17 March 2013 Well it's quite a popular event, I do think that £2000 is quite excessive and not easy to raise, I think that £1000 would be more realistic, it's the single reason that I won't run for charity again as its unfair to keep knocking on the same doors asking for cash. Now if I don't get through the ballot I (like this year) I look for another race. This time I'm running Edinburgh in May and hopefully Athens and Leicester later on this year.
Vlad the Fox Posted 17 March 2013 Posted 17 March 2013 I've been lucky and got through the ballot three times including two years running. I'm sure i heard someone say that the charities have to pay £500 for their golden bond places which is why they set the limit for sponsors. I've still raised money for Loros and wore their vests but what i raised went to help friends reach their total.
FoxesAreBlue Posted 17 March 2013 Posted 17 March 2013 I think for the London if I ever do get in on the ballot then I would choose a charity to support. It does irritate me though how it seems that once you enter a race they appear to give your details away as all I've had since my rejection letter is charities begging me to run in their place.

FoxesAreBlue Posted 18 March 2013 Posted 18 March 2013 When does next years ballot open? Usually a few days after the race itself and you find out weather you are in or not around September time.
Vlad the Fox Posted 18 March 2013 Posted 18 March 2013 When does next years ballot open? You need to check the virgin london marathon website on the day or the day after this years Marathon and they will give you the date when the ballot opens. You need to be quick though as it isn't open long, a day or two, I missed it last year.
Alexikokopops Posted 18 March 2013 Posted 18 March 2013 Yep, Charities pay for their Gold Bond places and if they don't fill them all they won't be able to buy the same amount the next year. My housemate works for one
Stuliasz Posted 18 March 2013 Posted 18 March 2013 Suffering from a lack of motivation since Silverstone. Got just under 6 months until the Great North but don't want to lose the base fitness that I developed. Any tips on how to snap out of it when you just feel like you can't be arsed?

A change is as good as a rest.
Vlad the Fox Posted 18 March 2013 Posted 18 March 2013 Or change your training routines, set a goal like trying to lower your average pace by 15/30 seconds and do some interval training to try and get there. You could also just sit on your arse for a week it won't hurt you that much.
Ozwin Posted 18 March 2013 Posted 18 March 2013 Any good running shops in Leicester? Want to work out my gait or whatever and get some decent trainers. I get terrible shin pains from simply running in football.

Sorted me out with some new trainers a few years back and I've never had shin pains since. She even guessed I had pains in my shins from watching me walk up and down the shop.
