Running and stuff

It's exactly the route I took, GT2160 to GT2170, prefer the 70's the feel lighter but stiffer in the midsole, they have also lasted longer through harder running.

I'm glad you've said that because I ordered some at about 10 o'clock this morning :D I'll start breaking them in after the half on Sunday!

Sheffield fox. Alexi. Best of luck today!! :D

EDIT:

Unofficial time (ie my stopwatch) was 1:42:48. Not a PB but fairly happy as I thought the race was not for another 6 weeks.

How did you do?

Unofficial time (I forgot my running watch!) was 1:41:14. PB by 9 seconds, which is ridiculous given I haven't been able to run much recently! I'm a bit annoyed though because I set off with the 1:45 pacer and just sped up because I felt good - I should have aimed for 1:40 from the start! Congrats on your time, especially given you didn't realise it was this weekend! Did you see the guy who had collapsed on the last (or second last) corner? Gutted for him, although I was right behind it and did get to shout "MEDIC" like I was in a war film. I'm sure that will cheer him up.

Also, I saw someone in a grey Leicester sweater in the paddock café at the start of the race - anyone on here?

Well I've been shamed by the pair of you, my time was 2:10:46 but I'm pretty happy with that considering its a good half hour better than last year! Well done to both of you anyway, think it's a tough race to train for given the time of year.

Yeah I saw him, when I got there the First Aid was there with him covering him in a foil blanket and he was screaming at the top of his lungs but not English and it didn't sound like foreign words either. I think he had completely lost control. I hope he was okay as it's a horrible thing to see. I'm 99% sure I saw Claire Squires being treated to at last yeas VLM too as they were putting black screens a rounder her. In fact, at every big race I've been in I've seen at least one serious casualty. Never run with me.

The 1:45 pacer was in from of me for the majority of the way and it was only in the last couple of miles that I made a concerted effort to get in front of him which wasn't easy as there was quite a big group around him!

Didn't see the LCFC top but thinking about it I did see a lad running in a Leicester Marathon finishers t-shirt, could that have been one of us? I didn't think at the time, should have asked really.

No shame in that time at all and 30mins better than your previous PB is a huge improvement, it is tough to train for, especially this year with nigh on two weeks of snow too. I think it's a good race to chase PBs though as it is a wide course and you don't get boxed in much like during the second half of the GNR or much of the London Marathon. Though the crowed were better this year and also the marshals were definitely up for it, particularly the one lone marshall near mile 9 (I think, it was on the outer track bit, round the back near the Porsche centre) she was yelling at all of the runner when I ran past and then later as I was back on the track and running 'past' her again I could hear her over the bloody wall!

Tonight I have been out with some of my staff for a meal and when I got up my hip flexor and left knee were on fire!! Tomorrow is going to be a bitch. My official time was 1:42:44 so four seconds quicker. I look forward to seeing the photos.

Oh, one last thing. The medal was nice this year, and the t-shirts! A new one to train in the gym in as my GNR ones are getting a bit wrecked!

I think that's a different person - he was getting out in an ambulance on the new start line and had a massive graze/cut on his head, right? The first guy I mentioned was at about 12.8 miles. As I ran past some people had helped him up and he was looking dazed but nothing too serious. Not like the guy kicking and screaming and shouting anyway!

Also, I know EXACTLY which steward you mean (by the Porsche garage). A panda hat if I remember right

Edit: 1:41:11 official time

I'm really struggling today too, hip flexors, thigh, knee, calf all agony when I have to move them. Had to be in Leicester early on this morning and was getting some right funny looks at the way I was walking. Think a constipated John Wayne and you're close to the mark!!

I know which one you mean too. She was awesome, ridiculous energy. Considering I was about 20-30 mins behind you guys and she was still going as strong. Completely nuts but I find that kind of thing towards the end definitely gives you a boost.

I saw her to then heard her when running on the otherside proper going for it. Official time of 1:36:36 claim to fame beat Iwan Thomas by a second to the line, passed him about 4mile mark then just coming down to the finish heard people cheering for him so mini dash for the line.

When I saw his PB (before this) was 1:39:01 I was annoyed I didn't go for it a bit quicker to try and beat him lol I never would have got anywhere near 1:36:36 though. Congratulations! And to you too Sheffield_fox, smashing the PB by 30 minutes is great work!

Has anyone had a look at the stats bit? On your official time click your name then click Runpix. I thought I did well but then realised I hadn't even reached 9 miles by the time the winner had finished lol

I remember hearing the announcement that Scott Overall had won, I was pretty much bang on 7 miles at the time. Scary that he could have probably ran it all again and just about beat me! Think my next HM will be the Great North Run, got a place in the ballot but heard it's a tough course. Have any of you done it before? Any specific tips on training for it?

Remember overtaking Iwan Thomas in the Blackfriars tunnel in the London Marathon, he was walking!!

As for the GNR, done it twice before and doing it again too, best bi of advice is train with hills as it does go up score it goes down.

Also a little tip, when youre at the start make sure that youre on the left hand side of the motorway, that way you go under the fly-over and not over it, therefore, one less hill!!!!

If you don't run a race between now and then, then fvck me you're in for a treat - GNR is amazing.

EDIT: Muscle wise I feel okay today, DOMS usually hits me after 48 hours so tomorrow is going to be horrific, that said I do have pains in my joints; both knees are bad and weirdly, for the first time, my right ankle is in a bad way too - it feels like somebody has fired an M15 screw into it.

getting back into running after a year or so break, i am in desperate need for some new trainers, any tips or advice on what to get and where from (local to leicester or the internet obviously I keep looking at these new adidas energy boost ones but there a little pricey!

Posted

How much are they? Tempted myself by a pair!

Did a 4 mile jog about an hour ago. Nice steady pace before my late shift tonight. Didnt want to overdo it and be knackered at work

£110 (pro direct running have them for £99 but not many sizes available) they do look pretty impressive.

Nice day for a run today, building up to a half Marathon in June so need to get back into it ASAP really.

Just get something that is comfy, doesn't give you blisters and doesn't have stupid amounts of cushioning. A £15 pair of trainers from sports direct will be fine. You won't run any better in some gimmicky shows like adidas energy boost than anything else, and you are more likely to get injured.

It's 7.30am and my 10km starts in 90minutes and it's already 29 degrees and very humid with no breeze, this isn't going to be good.

Did 10 miles today. When I was in the office the weather was fine but by the time I got downstairs (I'm only on the first floor) there was a blizzard! I ran through it (only 10 minutes but freezing when you only have shirts and t-shirt on) and was rewarded with beautiful blue skies and pink clouds as the sun set over Regent's Park. Managed to run past Lord's and down Regent's Canal as well. Really nice run. The only downside is that, because I wasn't prepared for wet weather, my nipples are ON FIRE. Proper red raw. I'm fine UNLESS it rains or, in this case, snows. 90 minutes of running with a wet t-shirt did the damage. GRIM

10 miles? Makes my little triumph of hitting 6 miles a bit depressing lol Hope your nipples recover soon though :P
