knowitall Posted 14 July 2008 Author Posted 14 July 2008 I dont know if this has already been posted ( and I dont know whom) someone asked me if Reserves would be taking place. The answer is NO. Friendly games will be arranged at the training ground. Under FA rules no public will be allowed to watch these matches.
Zingari Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 Hayes Hellings and Hayles are all told by NP that he would like them to have moved on before he gets back from team bonding.Sappleton is seen by NP as a player for the future. I think he is better than Howard now. Mm has told Np he expects his highest paid players to be playing every week. Highest 3 players Campbell Ngotty Howard I dont know if Np will become a great Leicester manager, but I have found him a cold and distance person. I am finding it very differcult to warm to him as a person. glad to hear that ; i don't want any more matey matey managers , good bunch o' lads etc etc a cold kick ass b*st*rd will do for me cheers and thanks knowitall

Unabomber Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 What's Gerry going to do? Milan said somewhere that he was staying at the club.
lavrentis Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 knowitall, do you know of any more possible signings or is that basically it? don't worry if you can't say. thanks,

Thracian Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 That's dreadful. What's the reasoning behind that? Thrac will not be happy. I'd already guessed that. Strange how the club has kept it quiet though with no explanation of the background or reasoning. Fans really are an afterthought except where money is concerned. At first glance, you feel for the future development of young players at the club but it might not necessarily pan out that way. Reserves league fixtures have mainly been used for young player development anyway and there is an argument which says why do they need to be playing in two teams. Okay, last season's reserves games were also something of a farce at times what with the circus of foreign hopefuls arriving at the start, the wholesale changes in personnel effected by Holloway in the middle, and the Academy Dallas tournament in the Spring which meant a month or so without reserves fixtures then a glut of games in a ridiculously short time. But when we last played reserves friendlies under Kelly two seasons ago there weren't many of them and various players returned to first team duty clearly less than match fit. Players were left sidelined and there was much discontent. Whether Pearson will combat that remains to be seen but, unless there's a full programme of friendlies it is hard to see how we would develop as many goodish young players as in recent seasons. Okay there's the loan system. But that's a bit of a lottery as the experiences of Dodds (virtually ever present for Lincoln) and Odhiambo (four games for Dundee) dramatically testify. For me though the major strength of having a competitive reserve team would be to develop a young shadow team in the image of the first team and while this was muted as the intention under Holloway/Taggart it never really materialised because the necessary continuity was inevitably lost. There were other benefits of home reserves fixtures in terms of advertising the club out in the county where it made a good starting point for aspring young fans, the enjoyment of watching emerging home grown prospects break through to the first team squad and the chance to see some positive football instead of the fear filled stuff invariably served up by the seniors. Altogether it was an enjoyable night out. So to me, overall, the loss of the reserves is possibly a backward step. Whether it heralds notice that the club will, in future, be happier to buy and borrow players rather than develop them from within remains to be seen but if so, I hope it doesn't all go wrong for us again like last season. But at this stage I'm not pessimistic. So far I think Pearson's buys look quite encouraging, in terms of age, ability, potential and fulfilling what we require. He seems to have made good investments and will surely have a vested interest in keeping everyone fit, happy, involved and improving. It will be a measure of the new manager if he can do that in the circumstances because Kelly never managed it with a handful of reserve team friendlies. But then neither did Holloway with a regular reserves League team.
Chairman of the Bored Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 Well N'Gotty can't be a reagular next season unless he sorts his fitness out and actually looks like he wants to play. Milan needs to let Pearson do what is best for the team not for him! And also I can imagine Pearson being quite cold, but at the end of the day we have had rather happy men managing us for a while and it hasn't worked wonders. Megson? Happy? What?
Chairman of the Bored Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 Well in the majority then. Rob Kelly was hardly Mr Smiley; Craig Levein was the original po-face and Martin Allen was Mr Grumpy! I think you mean we were managed by Hollowhead who was happy for a week after beating Bristol City.......

Fryatt conveys the impression that all places are up for grabs then, once again, we're told that Mandaric thinks some players are more equal than others. It just doesn't work that way and it buggers team morale in the end. Was Mandaric at Hinckley on Saturday? If so he could hardly have been impressed by N'Gotty, well paid or not. Of course things might change but Mandaric should leave the manager to pick his team and decide his tactics without pre-conditions and based on merit. If I were manager I wouldn't even want to know what people were paid. Your comments about Pearson don't surprise me. He looked pretty remote on Saturday. But he's not in a popularity contest. He's there to build and develop a winning team. It's clear from his footballing pedigree that he's big, strong and brave. He and/or his helpers also seem well able to spot a player. I just hope B-NP has the brain he'll need to fit the components together and make them work consistently. That's what nags at me. Perhaps because I still keep reading through his less-than-convincing managerial record. But we'll see.

l444ry Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 If there aren't any new (decent) signings then we might as well all stay at home. This bunch of clowns got City relegated with a whimper last season and now the team are weaker than ever due to Milan's fire sale. Some of the "better" players have thus far been replaced with nonentities. How anyone can be genuinely optimistic is beyond me. Delusion seems to be the order of the day.
Ultra Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 Last year we were relegated despite buying a load of "name" players. The new signings may do a job for us. Slating them before they've even had a chance to prove themselves is hardly likely to improve confidence or morale on or off the pitch.
Daggers Posted 14 July 2008 Posted 14 July 2008 Slating them before they've even had a chance to prove themselves is hardly likely to improve confidence or morale on or off the pitch. I'm more than happy for those who wish to slate them to follow L444ry's advice and stay at home...it'll certainly improve my moral next season.

Slating them before they've even had a chance to prove themselves is hardly likely to improve confidence or morale on or off the pitch. Possibly not. However, I'm not one of the fantasists who think that leopards can change their spots. The unpalatable truth is that City have the same useless owner, an untried manager and virtually the same bunch of players (but weaker) that got the club relegated. What justification can there be for such blind optimism? Maybe the "name" players did fail us last season but that can't be used as an argument for not signing players that have, at least, played in this division or higher. Lack of experience and leadership were non-existent last season. City lost because the players are serial losers. That's not slating them....just stating the plain facts. Like everybody else, I hope the new lads do well but I feel there is a rude awakening around the corner unless Mandaric and Pearson stop conning themselves about the size of the task ahead.

Like everybody else, I hope the new lads do well but I feel there is a rude awakening around the corner unless Mandaric and Pearson stop conning themselves about the size of the task ahead. On first impressions I'd not say our team looks necessarily weaker at all. I've long suggested that not having passers nor any great pace in defence has been a major weakness in our team, particularly as a launchpad for attacks. But if James Chambers can deliver the sort of performance he gave Saturday in Division One then I don't see why Stearman should be especially missed. I was never a big fan of McAuley anyway and, while Michael Morrison looked solid enough in McAuley's stopper role he also gave the impression he could pass and support the team going forward. I've criticised Worley as being prone to making errors and there was another one Saturday but he also looked seriously dominant in the air - as well he might be at 6ft 3ins - and, again, looked capable of playing the ball forward constructively even if there remains room for improvement. With Kerrea Gilbet there as an additional full-back and Bulgarian international centre-back Tunchev (admittedly unseen, but seemingly well enough known) I really cannot see why we should necessarily weaker at the back while, in midfield, the improvement appears to be dramatic. Nicky Adams looks seriously positive and his goals last season would take our combined midfield about three years to match on recent performances. Porter is, hopefully, back from injury offering the potential to play in at least two positions, while Gradel will surely become something of a cult figure and guarantee goals that have not been seen from our wings for years. Lloyd Dyer on the left seems to know his way to goal as well so, all in all, I doubt we'll have much trouble making up Hume's 11 goal contribution and first impressions are that the new players might even gel more easily than might have been the case with Hume who I never thought was a great pass and move player. He was more a helter-skelter with a reasonable eye for goal. Anyway I'm quite sure that the combined efforts of Gradel, Dyer, Adams will amount to more goals than Hume and am equally sure that Porter will bag a few given chance not to mention what our centre-forwards do. So where would we be weaker except perhaps in goal compared with the first half of last season?
