We signed Ricky Sappleton.

Leicester City have beaten off competition from a number of Premiership clubs to complete the signing of 17-year-old striker Ricky Sappleton.

The former Queen's Park Rangers player, who has recently had trials at Middlesbrough and Liverpool, chose to join the Foxes over a host of top flight clubs.

City boss Martin Allen said: "He chose to join up here and we are delighted.

"It also shows that we are not just looking short term, but to the future."

I am pleased to announce three further members of staff. Adrian Whitbread, Dave Hockaday, Damien Doyle have joined the team off the field.

Adrian arrives here as my assistant. He has been with me since my time at Barnet when he worked for nothing after his career as a player was finished by injury. He was unqualified with regards to coaching badges and this summer he has been invited to the UEFA pro licence course at Warwick University.

Adrian has a fantastic work ethic. He is a great organiser and is an up and coming young coach who has shown great dedication to learn, improve and develop.

Dave Hockaday joins as first team coach. He is a very good practical coach and has excellent organisation skills. He joined me only a few months ago. Dave gives me a different view. He is a good sounding board. He was first team coach at Watford and has got the experience of getting promotion to the Premiership. I will learn from him.

Damien Doyle is a sports scientist with more letters after his name that the blinking alphabet. He has worked with me since I started at Barnet and I promised him that as he was working for nothing, one day, if he kept learning and continuing his education work, I would take him with me.

Damien's work involves prehab and rehab, speed training, individual power programmes, core ball work and body conditioning work for the players.

I know about these areas of sports science, but I have to admit I don't know the details of them. That is why I have got people in who are more qualified than myself, which enables me to learn and develop.

All of the extra programmes in the different areas of fitness and sports science are optional for the players. I have never made the players do it, but it is interesting to see which players want to improve, develop and make them better. It is optional?!

Gone are the days, in my opinion, of just managing the team and hoping for the best. We are constantly looking at new ideas to help us gain any advantage we can.

I have met Dave Rennie (Head Physio), who I believe to be one of the best in the country. I also know that he is the top man for helping me with the occasional indigestion.

Take care,

Martin

Those were the days my friends we thought they'd never end! :crylaugh:

Of course they were.

Agree it's a bit sad looking back. I had such high hopes last summer.

Ah well, at least I can buy a Yeovil Vs Leicester badge this year.

We signed Ricky Sappleton.

This should be made into the United Nation's International Day of Ricky Sappleton then.

I shall write to them forthwith.

What would commemorating this spectacular day involve?

There was such a buzz around the club at the time it was great, I don't know what posessed us to believe it at the time...

It is sad to look back at it :(

With all that's happened since, that day seems like it was 10 years ago, not one.

What is worrying is the fact that this time last year we had a manager we had backroom staff and were making signings and still completely buggered up the season...Not yet even sorted the man in charge this time!

:o

I didn't realise it had been a year since the Sappletree had arrived and conquered all in his path.

Best cameo of the season.

I wish it had all worked out, it was all looking so great. We all loved Martin Allen, new signings coming out our ears, a rich enthusiastic chairman and Ricky Sappleton. But ultimatly, it all added up to relegation.

Foxes Capture Cort

Posted on: Fri 08 Jun 2007

Leicester City have today (Friday) completed a major transfer coup in securing the signing of former Newcastle United and Wolves striker Carl Cort.

Cort, who moved to St James' Park from Wimbledon in a deal worth £7 million in 2000, joins the Foxes on a two-year contract.

The 29-year-old becomes manager Martin Allen's fourth signing of the week - following the capture of former AC Milan and Bolton defender Bruno N'Gotty, highly rated Danish goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen and young striker Ricky Sappleton.

If you continue this for much longer there'll be investigations into a spate of suspected linked suicides...it's certainly depressing the crap out of me.

Yeah, I've added him as a friend on Facebook. I even sent him a message asking him how it's going in Leicester and he said fine.

It's like you're best mates  .

It wasn't intended but the OS news history only goes back to May 05 so no good news anywhere

On the subject of Ricky Sappleton esq, i think ive found his profile on faceparty (think myspace, bebo).

Could it be him, or a wannabe?

Bit random.

I wish I'd never clicked that link. And seen the other link to "Grim F**king Rita". And clicked that. And read stuff about "poo hats".
