Lets Be having You Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Pearson was absolute class for us, I was gutted when he left (And still am). You guys will love him. He took over when our confidence was at an all time low and we were heading down. He made the team much fitter and harder to beat. We were also a lot more entertaining to watch than we were under Burley. He also signed some brilliant loan players that kept us up, like Richard Wright, Chris Perry and Chris Lucketti. He was our best manager since Strachan, he will be your best since O'Neill. well i fooking hope so or we are fooked, this is one big gamble Milan, hope you have called it right.

Can someone replace this informative and optimistic post with some win percentages please?
Thracian Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Doesn't fulfil me with confidence but any manager who is appointed deserves to be judged on what they achieve with this club rather than their past record. I guess that's the basis on which some people would appoint the Yorkshire Ripper as a mentor for a call girls' charity. Me I like centre-forwards who can show me they score 15+ goals a season. Goalkeepers who keep a good percentage of clean sheets. Midfielders who score/create goals. And managers who win/draw far more matches than they lose. Statistics aren't the final word. But they do offer a sound first sentence.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Papa...is he a tough manager? We need someone to seriously kick ass.

Papa Shango Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Papa...is he a tough manager? We need someone to seriously kick ass. Absolutely. He lost his voice after one of his first games with us after shouting so much. He dropped under performers like Andrew Surman straight away. After his first away game at S****horpe all the players started to walk off after the game, but he made them all go over and clap the fans.

One thing i like about pearson is the sort of clubs he has been at during his coaching career. England U21 caretaker manager twice so he will be good at bringing yound talent through. Newcastle assistant and caretaker manager twice so hes good at dealing with difficult spells and has been around a team full of international quality players. West Brom assistant and caretaker, a team always known to play open attractive football. He seems to be an intellegent person to me, he realised he went into management to early with carlisle and did something about it by demoting himself to lower jobs so as to learn the trade properly and now he is emerging as a potentially good manager due to the teams he has learnt with. Id fully support this appointment and hope the majority would aswell as were getting a manager with potential and not a stale boring one like the last few.

Yes we've all seen what endless loanees have done for Leicester but I wouldn't be surprised if that's the attraction for Mandaric. More jobs for the old boys, more Horsfields, Jarretts and Clapham's to provide the perfect incentive for leaving our emerging youngsters on the side a bit longer. Southampton harder to beat under Pearson? I know they were bad before but he won just three of his 14 games in charge so they might have been harder to beat but they hardly made a habit of winning. He also won five out of 30 at Carlisle and lost 12.
CKB Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 I've got to the point where i just really don't care anymore! probs because in 6 months time he will probably be gone as it will be another total failed appointment from Mr Milan "i ain't got a fooking clue on managers" Mandaric! HEY..........but i could be wrong!

Mark Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 After reading Saints fans views on their forum I'm slightly more optimistic, very rarely do we get a manager with so much praise coming from his former club. No more ridiculous 3 year contracts though Milan, let him earn it.

Milky Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Hopefully a one year deal. How about a rolling contract!
CKB Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Are you guys MAD? this is Milan! he's gonna sign him up for 6 years!
Hullfox Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Me I like ......managers who win/draw far more matches than they lose. Statistics aren't the final word. But they do offer a sound first sentence. In which case take note - he lost 4 out of 14 at Southampton, hence they stayed up. That, along with the comments of the Saints fans I've read (obviously I have discarded what your son said) leads me to believe the bloke deserves a chance if he is appointed.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 I don't know much about Pearson, but I do remember watching Sky Sports News before the final game of last season and it showed pictures of Pearson looking focused on the job in hand pre-match. Holloway appeared to be emotionally all over the shop in the run-up to our game against Stoke. How did he expect our players to believe in themselves when he didn't look like he believed that they could stay up himself? Forget stats. We need a certain type of manager now. One that isn't a joke and one that the players can look to when they're in trouble and who'll give them some belief. It's about character for us now in my opinion. We've shown that this club is a totally different kettle of fish to any other club. If Holloway had repeated his win ratio art Plymouth with us I'm guessing we would've won a few more games than we did!
coale39 Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Anyone find anywhere where i can bet on Pearson being next manager.....
Thracian Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Does this mean you aren't even going to not see his first game before damning him then? My season ticket's already purchased. I hope he wins every game if appointed. I hope we play uninhibited attacking football. I hope we have no need at all of loanees. I hope Pearson inspires his charges to heights they never dreamed of. If he does I'll happily sing his praises. But I didn't write his managerial record. It speaks for itself. Only he can improve it and change the message it sends.
Flynny Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Thracian assuming he'll be defensive-minded based on them getting a lot of draws and the Southampton fans saying he built from the back is only the same as people assuming he'll be good because their fans quite liked him. No-one seems to be saying "He WILL be X", particularly, just that he could/might be based on whatever. Lets see.
