First off Pearson wasnt sacked at Saints he had a three month contract that wasnt renewed because there was a change in boardroom and dickhead Lowe returned and wanted a foreign coach which he had been tapping up for months.

Pearson came in at Saints late February to salvage a really bad set up and we scrapped home on the final game.

In a poll on a saints forum conducted with 2300 fans 96% wanted Pearson to remain as manager.

Looking at other people being considered i think you have the best option like i said in my first post on this forum.

Pearson certainly has got some good qualities and has some very good contacts around football to get loan players etc

He doesnt allow slackness and is very disciplined

Nothing is nailed on but you at least have something rather than John Gregory and worthington !

He must of been popular at St. Mary's then.

Lets hope he comes good for us.

You could argue 1000 people deserve a chance but wouldn't it be nice if, just for once, we picked a manager with a record of relevent success and with the sort of philosophy that will take us forward in every way?

Pearson strikes me as more from the same mould as we've had before - build from the back, plenty of muscle, endless loanees and lots of cautious football judging by all the draws he's had and how few victories he musters.

It's so long perhaps fans have forgotten that to achieve anything in football you have to win matches not keep drawing them. Didn't we have enough draws under Levein and Kelly? What are we aiming at now, staying clear of yet another relegation or going up?

Where all this enthusiasm for Pearson has come from I don't know. Cos I can't remember him being mentioned at all when fans jotted down their original preferred options, and a considerable number there were too.

That's all very well, but who do you honestly think is going to come to us with a record of relevant success and the soprt of philosophy that will take us forward?

Lets be honest, we're a bit of a joke and we're in League One, it's got to the point where I'll take what I can get as long as it's not John fecking Gregory.

Plus my two Southampton supporting mates disagree with your son, they were big fans of Pearson

Check out that for some belated replying.

Anti-slackness is probably the ticket I would stand on were I ever to run for office.

God I hate slackness.

hummmme!!

Argh well dont know what to make of this. I dont really know him, i see it as very big risk. Then again any manager we get at this point is going to be risky because were not likely to draw in a top qaulity manager while were in this league.

However stats are crap, a manager with amazing stats can still go and mess up, someone with crap stats has something to prove and will go out to improve his stats. So i dont think stats are even worth taking into account really.

I must admit im not overly inspired, but i am quietly confident about next season. Lets just get it going. Please can we not have another buying spree summer though, i dont think i can watch us make the same mistake again!

To be honest im pretty underwhelmed by this appointment.

But from what the Southampton fans have been saying im quite optimistic, hes an excellent coach and has alot of contacts in the game, Obviously hes still not a proven manager but i feel he can do well.

Do we know what coaching staff are coming in? I know the Newcastle scout Steve Walsh and West Brom reserve coach Craig Shakespeare have been mentiond but i'd like to see someone with a bit more experience in.

Anyway im fully behind Pearson and wish him luck.
