Uncle Albert Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Obviously I disagree, he hardly set the championship alight at Southampton! To be fair he kept them in The Championship.
Lillehamring Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Well well well that'l teach me won't it.It looks like Mr Mandaric has decided that he can not continue to deal with John Gregory any longer. I can assure you, that on THREE seperate occasions a deal was agreed with John Gregory, only for him to decide he wanted to think about it abit longer. So all eyes will be on the press conference tomorrow morning. 11am from what I know at the minute. This may change as things have changed very late in the day, will try and keep you posted. I apologise for my little rant on another thread, but I stand by what I posted. At that time a deal was agreed and a press conference had been scheduled for 2pm that afternoon. However John Gregory needed more time, and it looks like this has cost him the chance to be our manager. heh, well this'll satisfy the '2nd choice' miserabilists on here...
Uncle Albert Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Surely we could have done better? Its not a done deal yet. Is it?
Mickey O'Neil Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Bollocks. Not too happy if this is true, but, I will back him like I did Megson.
Daggers Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 so, do we know what sort of footy he favours, what was he like as a player, anyone know ote about him? Vital football Saints fan He really has proved himself worthy of the job in my eyes. But Saints being Saints I'm sure we'll let him slip through the net and watch with a sickening feeling as he transforms a struggling club into contenders while we flounder with some big-shot manager that can't get along with Rupert Lowe. I'd rather forego the rumoured investment if it meant Nigel staying. He's a prized asset at a club with very few hereos and his departure would be yet another body blow for Saints fans. I already feel battered by everything that's happened. Letting Nigel go would put me firmly on the canvas.
filbertway Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Its not a done deal yet. Is it? Sorry yes, good point Maybe milans released that to the press to see the opinion on here before deciding tomorrow
Fez of Mahrez Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 we'll see But thus far I'm not impressed. Ah, there it is.
fox123 Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 I would say that IF it was going to be Nigel 'BORING' Pearson he would have been un-veiled by now!
Thracian Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Vital football Saints fan Building from the back sounds familiar. It's all we've ever done for the last five seasons.
Legend_in_blue Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Obviously I disagree, he hardly set the championship alight at Southampton! And who in recent memory has set league one alight at any club over the last few seasons? Not many, if any at all. And if they did, they wouldn't drop back down to our level. Situation is what it is. We are a big club, but we are lodging with peeps in some dingy Holiday Inn, not the Hilton and not the Ritz. If it was a choice between John 'I love my green tracky bottoms' Gregory or some other bloke. I'd take the other option over Gregory.
Houdini Logic Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 If this is true then someone tell me what the delay is about?
Maybes Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Nigel Pearson doesn't exactly fill me with hope. However I am prepared to give him my support. We shall see.
Mickey O'Neil Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 That thread in Daggers' post has made me feel a bit better. I just hope he's tougher than he looks.
Finnegan Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 If this is true then someone tell me what the delay is about? Mandaric has had enough of 10pm anouncements? Dunno. To be honest I dont think Pearson is inspiring but if there's one thing I've learned over the last season is that, to be honest, until we're a few games into a manager's reign we're going to have no fooking idea how well they'll do. I mean Holloway and Allen both invoked excitement and both flopped, Burrows and bloody Taggart did more than the pair of them. I'll be cautious and pessimistic 'til the season starts whoever's in charge. That said, I would honestly rather fooking Thracian in chage than John Gregory.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 One thing that stands out is him bringing on Lallana at the Hawthorns.
dudedog Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 is there confirmation of this press conference tomorrow anywhere then or just rumours?
Bert Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 "Pearson will also appoint an assistant manager to oversee recruitment in Steve Walsh!! — not the former Leicester player, but his namesake who was Newcastle's chief scout under Sam Allardyce after quitting Chelsea"unlucky steve  You've totally took that the wrong way. Steve Walsh will be over-seeing recruitment.
Flynny Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Seems Kevin Bond esque, except he didn't get relegated. I'd rather have Kevin Bond.
Thracian Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Vital football Saints fan I'll need a bit better than that!
Guest shearfox Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Doesn't fulfil me with confidence but any manager who is appointed deserves to be judged on what they achieve with this club rather than their past record.

Papa Shango Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Pearson was absolute class for us, I was gutted when he left (And still am). You guys will love him. He took over when our confidence was at an all time low and we were heading down. He made the team much fitter and harder to beat. We were also a lot more entertaining to watch than we were under Burley. He also signed some brilliant loan players that kept us up, like Richard Wright, Chris Perry and Chris Lucketti. He was our best manager since Strachan, he will be your best since O'Neill.
