I'm pretty non-fussed about it as he is an unknown quantity. My only concerns are that Southampton survived, not because of Pearson, but simply that we were worse. If we had been anything approaching half-decent, Pearson would not have saved them. On top of this, Southampton chose not to keep him on. I don't believe this is about saving money because a good manager is worth it, so must put it down to internal boardroom politics (as a previous saints fan said) or that they didn't see him as the best candidate.

I've stated before that I probably would have preferred Paul Lambert and this still stands, whilst respecting that he has a massive amount to prove to many people before some consider him a realistic candidate. However, Pearson it is, so let's now get the preparations and pre-season underway.

Right, my twopence worth.

Not my first choice, I would have loved someone with a more concrete record we could feel confident with - an Ince, Grayson, Davies, etc would have been great in our current situation.

But assuming this is true I'm not unhappy and feeling surprisingly optimistic.

- He's not John Greogry, Peter Reid, Megson, Warnock or many of the other horror names

- He's never failed

- He's a young manager who may well have great potential

- Great references from Saints fans

- Even with the Carlisle record, didn't he take over an abismal team and save them from the brink?

- Certainly saved Southampton from the brink last season

- Apparently he built from the back at Southampton, that's a criticism from some but for me absolutely the right way to rebuild a failing team. Make them hard to beat first then turn them into winners - no point losing 4-3 instead of 3-0

- I'm assuming he knows his limitations with experience and will be desperate to prove himself - much rather this than a manager who'd had success in the past but failed recently and is content to live on the legend in his own head

- We're a league 1 club now, let's be realistic in who we could get

- He seems to be a passionbate manager who will give underperformers a kick up the backside or drop them and will be screaming from the touchlines. Recalls some fond memories from way back

As fans we are far too negative generally and all this is in the public domain, do you really think the people concerned don't read it?. I'm fully 100% behind the manager and will sing his name on the opening day or the season.

It seems to me that as usual we have already got a queue of people who almost appear to be wanting the bloke to fail. I can see the "I told you so" posts being planned already.

I remember you asking a while ago if anyone knew a decent bloke called Nigel. To this day I cant think of one but hopefully Mandy has found one.

I am now 100% behind Nigel Pearson. More so than I was for Megson or Holloway. I hope this little touch by myself is the difference between success and failure.

I can't say I'm happy with this.

I don't know why, I just have a really bad feeling about this. I hear Southampton fans wanted him to stay which is always promising but I just feel there are so many more better candidates we could have got instead.

Maybe he'll surprise me I don't know, but I'm just not confident about this.

If I was a player I wouldn't be wanting to go in at half time losing.

Bearing in mind the state of LCFC our tarnished reputation our vacilating Chairman, our string of failed and eccentric managers I'm happy to settle for a decent season with a man in charge who it's claimed has dignity and integrity something our club is clearly lacking.

Let's hope that some of that rubs off on Mandaric and LCFC because I would like to see us gain a little self respect even at the expense of promotion.

It were them leggings that he wore in that picture on the first page that has done it for me. Any manager who wear's them know's what they are doing. Could you imagine Megson or Holloway in a pair of them?

I'm going to nickname him Pearson The Knife.
