Legend_in_blue Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 This is most likely the turn of events that will unfold tomorrow. Get used to it people. I don't know much about him, but what the hell, I'll get behind the man 100%. Just bring it!!!
Uncle Albert Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Apart from working as assistant manager for a few clubs, not a lot really. He managed Southampton towards the end of last season, winning 3 out of 14 with a win ratio of 21%. He very nearly took them down but was helped out a little by us. Doesn't sound too promising. Exactly. How people can say they would prefer Pearson to Gregory is laughable.
Mark Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 I've always seen him as an assistant not a manager. He went to Southampton and did a similar job to what Rob Kelly did here. I'm past caring though, I just want someone to come in and sort this mess out.
Katy Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Bloody hell. As long as he doesn't masquerade as John Gregory behind closed doors, NP will be fine. If that's who it is come on Milan, I really want to smack you one now.
RowlattsFox Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Southampton did seem to have a bit of fight in them in the last couple of games of last season, something that we didnt have. I'm not saying thats enough to suggest he's the right man but its promising.
SamL Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Possibly on Par with Ince What evidence do you have to suggest this?
Sparky Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Id take Gregory over him to be honest if somewhat unpopular
SamL Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Between 17th December 1998 and 17th May 1999, Pearson was in charge at Carlisle managing to win 5 games out of 30, a win ratio of 16.6%. He sounds worse than Gregory.
Legend_in_blue Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Facts are we don't know if he's a good manager or not. The same could have been said of a certain Martin O'Neill when he came in. Ok, so he did it at Wycombe, but there was no concrete evidence to say whether or not he could take it to another level. Let's hope this bloke can approach something nearly as good. If he does, he'd go down well here I tell you.
Mark Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Facts are we don't know if he's a good manager or not. Well, we have a fair idea. He's had two spells as "Manager", once in the late 90's at Carlisle and last season at Southampton. He managed a 16.66% win ratio at Carlisle and 21.43% at Southampton which is abysmal. But I'm not reading anymore about his past I'll just
Collymore Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 "Nigel Pearson will be named as Leicester's manager today after chairman Milan Mandaric decided to go with his intial choice despite a late bid by former Aston Villa manager John Gregory." Something doesn't add up here - The Mail surely can't tell me that the whole fiasco has been delayed a week due to JG sticking his iron in the fire on Monday! JG must have been one of the 20 originally interested so something doesn't add up. The Blackburn job is too much coincidence. I'm not saying it definitely won't be Pearson, but seems a bit lazy to me.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Thracian Oh great. Not enthused by Pearson but beggars can't be choosers.
Sparky Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Well, we have a fair idea. He's had two spells as "Manager", once in the late 90's at Carlisle and last season at Southampton. Asha Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 For him, it would be a fresh start, an opportunity to bring in his own players, in a league where we're one of the favourites. It would be a test for him.
Thracian Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 If true I'm underwhelmed. In terms of excitement it's akin to the umpteenth repeat of a tiresome television advert. And I cannot see anything in his managerial stats to imagine how he'd win the decision. He's not done a lot of managing anyway but his win ratio at Carlisle (1998/99) was five out of 30 games or 16.66% and in "saving" Southampton three out of 14 or 21.43%. Wukidoo.
Jonezy Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 I'll wait for it be official before I comment. So many bloody rumours these days, it does my head in......
Daggers Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 ...and so the Wikipedia win-ratio stats come out. Whatever happened to actually watching football?

Didn't this guy take on Southampton with only a few games to go in the season? A bloke called Nigel Worthington did pretty much the same at the end of last season and managed a win percentage of 20%? Mmmmm, ...thought so. Perhaps we shouldn't read too much into this. After all, he did take on a difficult job, and his hands were tied somewhat as to what exactly he could achieve.
Asha Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Well before Roy Keane joined Sunderland, he had a 0% win ratio. Stats don't show everything. Pearson hasn't had ten years failed experience like others. Not my first choice, but would do.
Lillehamring Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Those stats mean nothing. but hardly suggestive of a winning mentality, sounds like a decent run of wins would be as arcane to him as it would be to us---

Not to mention the manner in which they played and the fact that the new(old) owners wanted him back in-situ.
