Magunda

Does this mean he will be given a go in the first team ?

Most probably.

I think the reason he's only been given 6 months is that he's going to be given a chance to prove himself at this level. If it doesn't work out, we can get rid after 6 months.

If he was just going to be sitting in the reserves, I don't think we would've given him a new contract.

I sincerely hope he gets the message.

In fact he's a lucky lad to get his six months.

Yes, the injury was a blow. But he was given stacks of football before that, both in the reserves and in Academy matches and really seemed to have stagnated, experiencing a torrid time in the Academy play-offs final at Sunderland.

Magunda is basically a right-back who's been given opportunities in midfield and centre-back.

With Lee Cox having overtaken him, Magunda will need to develop a new intensity of purpose if he's to rescue his career.

What is he capable of Thrac? Is he one for the future, could he turn into an accomplished player?

Not in my view but then I didn't think Scott Garner would get a contract.

Garner, if nothing else, has shown the intensity nececessary to make the best of himself and, while still having much to do, is certainly not the glaring weak link he looked to be two seasons back.

Magunda can look okay as a right back and seems willing enough to get forward in support. But his positioning and decision making sometimes look suspect to me and then there's the question of his determination.

Sometimes it's not the best or most skillful footballers who make it but the ones who need it most and who will go through whatever necessary to make it happen.

Tennis player Andrew Murray is a great current example. He was always talented but seemed physically soft when he emerged on the circuit. Now he has focused on his fitness to become strong, fast and determined - and in a much more focused way than previously.

To succeed in professional sport you need the bloody mindedness to improve your performance each and every day.

Now he has six months to show he can do that.

What contracted youngsters would you say are ready for a step up to the first team Thracian?

It's not such a simple question because it depends on the competition Pearson might bring in.

Gradel is the most obvious. So far he's created goals and scored goals at every level he's played including Division One.

It's not that he doesn't make mistakes or have faults, it's the fact that he's always asking questions and trying to make some impression that sets him apart.

Gradel can score so many kinds of goals too. Long distance, short distance, he never lacks the confidence to shoot and is often very accurate.

It's the same with his wing play. No matter whether he gets tackled or fouled he just comes back and tries again. One lapse in concentration by a defender and Gradel can take advantage.

Bell was perhaps the best wide player we've had at Leicester for at least four seasons but he never looked a goal threat. Gradel's good for 8-10 goals mimimum given a reasonable run in the team and that sort of return from a non centre-forward is vital if we're to start moving forward.

If Porter recovers from his injury he should play an important role. I really cannot understand the criticism of him. Porter is one of the few players we have who can pass and move with ease and in any part of the pitch. Given the right team-mates he can also probe defences and create things as his record already shows. Our failure to properly replace him last season was a major mistake but he needs to be given greater freedom.

Andy King is another who should be in contention for a regular place but he needs to be fully fit. I said that because he's not the fastest and has never had as much stamina as I'd expect at this stage. He needs to do a Murray, fitness wise, and get himself better tuned than ever before.

If he does then his first time or two-touch passing and moving can only compliment the likes of Gradel, Porter, Weso and even Sheehan if he makes his return. The added bonus you get with King is potential goals and assists, particularly if he's allowed and encouraged to burst late into the box. So far we've tended him to use him in far too restrained a way. He needs to be up there supporting attacks.

Ryan Beswick is another I like. I have no idea why he wasn't used last season because I'd have him ahead of Laczko, Hayles, and Mattock as an attacking left-sider.

There is so little to go wrong with Beswick's game because he passes the ball so early, so accurately and often into dangerous places, a style that gives his team-mates vital time and opportunity. He can also shoot and is a regular scorer, again, from a position here we've so rarely scored in recent seasons, and not at all when Porter's been out.

Beswick has the added bonus of being a versatile player who can play left-back, left-wing or move inside quite comfortably. And, like Sheehan, he can take free-kicks.

Billy McKay may creep into the frame. He's got a little of Torres' style in that he makes shallow and often selfless runs across the back of defences and sees the possibilties so well. If we could truly develop the pass and move football that has served Spain so well and was the cornerstone of the Academy success then McKay can and should play a part.

Okay he lacks a bit in size and strength but he's got a terrific engine and willingness to keep trying. And, unlike Fryatt on too many occasions, he doesn't ignore the runs of his team-mates but uses them and does much to keep moves flowing.

It took him a while to adjust when he graduated to the reserves but he started to look quite influential second half of the season and I see no reason he shouldn't be carefully introduced into first team football.

Does anyone think Kee has a chance in getting in the first team? When back from injury.

I'd have thought that Kee would benefit from more time in the academy and reserve sqauds, allowing some of the older lads to make their mark.

That, and Kee's only about 10. :D

Kee's first challenge is to recover from his injury so I'd say the answer to your question this season is no.

He did manage a few reserve games at the beginning of last season when it was perfectly obvious he has some adjusting to do before he's comfortable at that level.

I've still not heard if we're even going to have an official reserves league team this season - how well we are kept up to date by the OS!

But, either way, I'd say if Kee gets a solid and effective injury-free season behind him at below first team level that will be an achievement and anything else would be a big bonus.

I'm honestly trying hard not to take the bait but McKay/Torres?

He has got the ability.

Louis Dodds thinks he is Torres, his facebook says this.

Thrac, yea I would agree with that about Kee. I think he is deffinetly one for the future.

Has the same injury that Rowley hasnt he?

To be fair to Thracian, he said a Torres style. It's very easy for a player to have a similar style to a player, albeit with much less quality.

Which then makes the whole comment completely pointless.

I might have a similar style to Micheal McIndoe. Fez is something of a Jackie McNamara and ManPabs is about the closest thing (style-wise) to the illegitimate lovechild of Paul Peschisolido and Danny Invincible that I've ever seen (with the exception of their ACTUAL lovechild).

We might as well just set up a tribute style club, with a tribute band playing at half time, all the players could be lookalikes and have the swagger but be crap.
