Brainy Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 Good to have them four down, although I heard there was some controversy with the first three wickets?
Fox You Forest Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 Good to have them four down, although I heard there was some controversy with the first three wickets? Two of them the batsmen didn't pick the ball up because of the sight screen and Flintoff's high action. Hawkeye said monty's wasn't hitting the wickets. Monty's just got another.
purpleronnie Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 Looks all over now. Anyone listened to the commentary? Don't know who it was but after england got the 3rd wicket, he said 'I think thats the wicket that has won the test for england' This is another pet peeve of mine I've heard it when england play football, british players at wimbledon and now the cricket, english commentators who celebrate victory way before we've won, someone should tell the cricket commentator we need 10 wickets to win not 3.
Milky Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 Fair play to Smith and his excellent 150. Shame he wasn't given out when he punched one up in the air early on.
Milky Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 According to some of the goons on the BBC website, SA are an "average side" and Monty should be dropped because he "doesn't offer enough". Who the fook are these people!
Fox You Forest Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 According to some of the goons on the BBC website, SA are an "average side" and Monty should be dropped because he "doesn't offer enough". Who the fook are these people! Doesn't offer enough. He bowled over 30 overs went for just over 2 runs an over and chipped in with wickets. It's the rabble bowling the other end thats the problem, Yes im looking at you Sidebottom. No swing no wickets and isn't that what Hoggard got dropped for, Get rid and get Jones in. Can we keep picking Anderson for his one magic ball every 100 balls? fooking idiots i would happily consent to a gay marriage with Monty.

Who the fook are these people! In a couple of years Monty's pace will be under pressure, Rashid (can't think of his first name) is a talented young spinner but he can bat as well and a decent fielder. I can forgive Monty for being crap with the bat, some players are but there is no excuse for him being so crap in the field. I know that not everyone is going to be good in the field but Monty is a pathetic fielder.

RowlattsFox Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 Shocking i can think of atleast six of the eleven i would attack before Monty. I didn't attack him, just said he's a pathetic fielder, which he his.

They should take him with them on the next tour to the sub continent when you have to have 2 spinners. Monty's not bad but this kid has got the potential to be way better than him!!

The big advantage he has is he spins it both ways, As much as i love Monty thats what is going to stop becoming one of the greats. Both of them playing at the same time would be quality.

Webbo Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 BBC Vaughan may step down as captainVaughan is not expected to be dropped despite his poor form England's selectors will name the squad for the final Test against South Africa at a news conference at 1300 BST. And BBC Sport understands Michael Vaughan may not be captain for The Oval after a poor run of form with the bat and three defeats in five series.
Milky Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 Atherton and Botham reckon KP will be announced the new captain. Inside info perhaps?
Corky Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 Atherton and Botham reckon KP will be announced the new captain. Inside info perhaps? None of the players fill me with confidence in terms of being a great captain. Vaughan was the best bet. I have a feeling it will be Collingwood, what with him being the ODI captain as well.
wellsy Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 Vaughan is one of the best captains England have ever had, just his form with the bat is woeful. I think it is the right time for Straussy to be given the captaincy. Right man for the job in my opinion.
C-man Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 Collingwood steps down aswell. Seeing as they want a captain for both, KP is surely a shoe-in.
Ultra Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 I hope not. KP can't be trusted to put the team above his own interests. The captaincy would do to him what it did to Flintoff.
Corky Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 I hope not.KP can't be trusted to put the team above his own interests. The captaincy would do to him what it did to Flintoff. I agree. As much as I like KP, I feel the captaincy will hinder him with the bat, and put too much pressure on his shoulders.

He hasn't even had a game yet, Initial reactions mean nothing to me anymore watching the likes of Clemence Oakley and Howard have killed it for me, I think he must have atleast 10 games before any sort of judgment can be made. I agree. As much as I like KP, I feel the captaincy will hinder him with the bat, and put too much pressure on his shoulders. He absolutely loves the attention so it could quite easily have the opposite effect aswell. ------- Very emotional press conference from Vaughan an excellent captain for the majority of the 5 years, Again making another top quality decision by stepping down at the right time. Purpleronnie will be pleased.
Sparky Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 Sky sports news understand KP will be the man . Talksport are tipping Robert Key
Father Ted Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 Sky sports news understand KP will be the man .Talksport are tipping Robert Key I don't see how it can be Rob Key when he isn't even in the squad! This also means Vaughan can be dropped!
