Ultra Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 Vaughan is "taking a break", which means he won't be playing in the next Test.
Asha Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 One of the best English captains of all time. The Ashes 05 really was the highlight. Got most of England interested in the sport for once. Couple of very poor England displays recently though, he's correct in saying that the time was right, imo.

Don't think that it should be KP though, Straussy is the man for me. Done it before and was successful, knows the squad already so would be ideal. Rob Key should be in the team though at 4, KP at 3 and Bell at 5. Hopefully the selectors make the right decision at 1pm today then!
The People's Hero Posted 4 August 2008 Author Posted 4 August 2008 I actually said to a few friends a week or so ago that I was 90% Vaughan would step down. I wanted Key in there and then. When Collingwood got a recall (premature I thought at the time - but his 100+ proved me wrong) I thought perhaps he was being given the job and having a soft-run with Vaughan there. As it happens - I think it's the correct decision. Big decision from Vaughan - and a brave one as he is a good captain. I just think the whole thing needs a shake up. It's lost it's spark a bit - the whole thing. I wish all the best to the successor .
SamL Posted 4 August 2008 Posted 4 August 2008 Bopara in, Vaughan out. Apart from that, the squad stays the same as the previous test.
Corky Posted 4 August 2008 Posted 4 August 2008 Why don't we stick Broad at three, and play him as an occasional bowler?
The People's Hero Posted 4 August 2008 Author Posted 4 August 2008 Why don't we stick Broad at three, and play him as an occasional bowler? Not up to it. He's handy as a lower middle order bat or, looking at it another way.. a tail-shortener. Broad could probably justifiably be in the side on merit as a bowler.
RowlattsFox Posted 4 August 2008 Posted 4 August 2008 Don't see why Bopara has replaced Vaughan, completely different player, would have gone for Owais Shah myself. Probably won't play though, Broad will come back in and Bell or Pietersen will bat at 3.

billyfox1 Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 nice to see broad back. ambrose has already taken one in the gob
The People's Hero Posted 7 August 2008 Author Posted 7 August 2008 nice to see broad back. ambrose has already taken one in the gob Don't understand them picking Ambrose, but agree - good to see Broad back. How is he bowling?
SamL Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 Don't understand them picking Ambrose, but agree - good to see Broad back. How is he bowling? Hasn't had a bowl yet this morning. Cook has already dropped a catch off Harmison.
The People's Hero Posted 7 August 2008 Author Posted 7 August 2008 Hasn't had a bowl yet this morning. Cook has already dropped a catch off Harmison. Interesting to see if they throw Bopara the ball at any point.
billyfox1 Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 Interesting to see if they throw Bopara the ball at any point. Unlikely. He and sidebottom have been replaced by Harmison and Broad
Alexikokopops Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 First ball, dropped. Nice ominous start to KP's England captain career.
Manwell Pablo Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 I can't believe they made KP captin anyway, he aint even English.
SamL Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 Unlikely. He and sidebottom have been replaced by Harmison and Broad Bopara wasn't replaced. Broad and Harmison came in for Vaughan and Sidebottom.
SamL Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 I can't believe they made KP captin anyway, he aint even English. I think I read somewhere he's the 18th Non-English captain. If he does well then great.
Fox You Forest Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 I think I read somewhere he's the 18th Non-English captain. If he does well then great. If he doesn't do well he's South African ?
billyfox1 Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 Bopara wasn't replaced. Broad and Harmison came in for Vaughan and Sidebottom. yes. didn't realise Bopara wasn't in the last test. Bad wording by the BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/cricket/england/7544629.stm
The People's Hero Posted 7 August 2008 Author Posted 7 August 2008 Thought Bopara would get a go. Nevermind.
SamL Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 If he doesn't do well he's South African ? Ideally you'd like an English captain, but we've got to go for the best possible candidate and the selectors obviously thought that it was Kevin Pietersen. Good luck to him I say.
SamL Posted 7 August 2008 Posted 7 August 2008 Finally, a wicket. :w00t: McKenzie - Bowled Flintoff, Caught Cook. At least Cook has managed to hold onto one this time.
