Dwain Chambers Not going to Beijing

I doubt he would have won a medal anyway, didn't the best 3 Jamaicans all run sub 10 seconds at their national championships?

.........hardly means anything it's what they run on the day, he's a good sprinter, he had a chance. Life time ban is a life time ban though.

Colin Moynihan was a little twat when he was in government and he hasn't got any less annoying now. I'd have been happy for Chamber to go just to piss the little runt off.

I'm glad he hasn't been allowed to go to the Olympics. If given a chance, there's people out there who could do as good a job without cheating.

Yes he's a good runner, but I've got no sympathy for him because of what he's done.

I don't get the problem - let them all take drugs, any and as many drugs as they want.

I may even be tempted to watch the Olympics if they're all bombed or having steroid-induced fights.

I mean, I think it would have been Craig Pickering ( I think) who would have missed out if he had got in. Which would have been very very unfair...

Very true!

We seem to be forgetting that someone would've missed out if Chambers had gone!

Pickering will be lucky to do a sub 10 sec but the experience will do him some good.

Good? Why?

He did his crime and served his punishment (I think? Unless he was appealing his punishment to enable him to go in which case it's a good job he hasn't gone). He should start from a clean slate now if he's served his punishment.

That's the point really DB11. He hasn't fully served his punishment. His sentence was a two year ban from competition plus a lifetime ban on representing Great Britain in any Olympic Games. He was trying to get his sentence commuted to just a two year ban.

He knew when he embarked upon his cheating programme that he wouldn't be allowed to go to the Olympic Games if he was caught. He got caught, tough sh*t!

Now the BOC can give his place to another athlete deserving the honour of representing his country.

I read a piece somewhere by a doctor (sorry can't remember where) who said that the type of drugs that he took developed the body in a way not possible naturally and that that development remained with the athlete even once he had stopped taking them. Therefore, according to him, Chambers is still reaping the benefits of his previous drug programme even though, allegedly, he is no longer taking them.

I've been a lifelong fan of athletics and been a competitor at a reasonably high level. You watch and observe and you notice athletes develop. You get athletes who develop over a long period of time due to hard work and consistency and then you get ones who suddenly burst onto the scene. The latter are the ones to get suspicious about. Dwain Chambers was always a good junior athlete but nothing massive on the senior world stage to begin with. But when an athlete turns out at the start of a season much bulkier than you remember him at the end of the previous season you think 'wtf?'

Him not being in Beijing isn't a loss to Great Britain - I doubt he would have made the Final of the 100m IMHO. It's more of a personal loss to Dwain Chambers. He had two options - be true to yourself or cheat. He chose to cheat so he got what he deserved.

Have a read at the link below. I found it an incredible insight into what goes on;

He hasn't served his punishment, part of the punishment was to not be allowed to participate in the olympics.

Shame :o

Probably our only chance of a medal gone out the window for some do gooders seeking press and power..

He's learnt his lesson, he will never take drugs again unless he wants to risk being publically anialated!!

Once a drug cheat always a drug cheat.

I am glad he isnt representing us at the Olympics. Would rather not win any medals than see a drug cheat standing on a podium with the British flag.
