Stevosevic Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 Confirms what knowitall said - a northern club that we would see as smaller than us.
ronnup Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 Be a bloody shame that, he's never had a proper run here.
brookfox Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 I can only assume he's on largish wages, because for me he's a much safer bet than Gilbert.
Jay Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 Be a bloody shame that, he's never had a proper run here. but still played in about half of our games how does that work then? the problem with Chambers is the old utility man tag can be played and do ok in a number of positions but not outstanding in any of them
Daggers Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 He may be weaker as an out and out defender but his ability as an attacking wing-back was better than we've had at the club recently and Gilbert has yet to prove to me he's any better than Chambers. I can't see this as anything other than weakening the squad unless something better happens this week - there's others I'd much rather go first.

Candidcamera Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 No point in keeping him if he is not going to start. Also, he has not produced - obviously not the only one.
act smiley Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 Bit disappointed really, he's a decent player, never really did that much wrong for us and better than Gilbert in my opinion.
Daggers Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 No point in keeping him if he is not going to start. Also, he has not produced - obviously not the only one. Sorry? Exactly how has a right back who has accepted to be played across the middle of the park, including left-wing, not produced for us. He has been resolutely dependable and tried his damn hardest in every match. On the odd times he has been given a right back position he hasn't disappointed me.
Jonezy Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 Thought he was to become a first team regular this season, but Nigel prefer Gilbert apparently, so good deal for Doncaster and Chambers. Leave us a bit short at fullback though, so hopefully we will get another one in.

I'd be disappointed to see him go

Also, he hasn't moaned to the press about not playing or being played out of position, he's been patient and willing to play in different areas. From what I've seen, he looks a better bet than Gilbert. Chambers' attacking play is his strength, whereas Gilbert doesn't seem to pass forwards at all. I'd be disappointed to see him leave.
Collymore Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 I like Chambers, It wouldn't be the end of the world if he went though. The Championship is probably his level so good luck to him.
Tilley Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 Good luck to him. Would like to have seen him in our right back position this season.
FilboFox Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 PHEW!!! Thought you meant Ashley Chambers for a second there and that WOULD have been a blow! Chambers going is unfortunate but I doubt he would have gone if he was actually needed and going to start here... especially for Doncaster...
MPH Posted 2 August 2008 Posted 2 August 2008 i can imagine his heart sank when he heard about gilbert signing. he was never really given a chance to play a steady game at rb / rwb last season and i kind of feel sorry for him - except for the fact he will be playing in a division higher than us!
Shipman Out Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 His ability to play LB or RB could be crucial, cant see Mattock and Gilbert staying injury free all year! who replaces them???? Moving one out, getting two in.
LCFC2007 Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 Should not let him go. In my opinion he is the best right back at the club.
smokey Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 We will only have very inexperienced cover at right back if he goes and no cover at all at Left back so a bit worrying but maybe Pearson will buy 1 or 2 this week.

Heard an interview with Milan yesterday on the radio before the Palace game and he said there may be 2 or 3 more players coming in, so watch this space!
wellsy Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 Heard an interview with Milan yesterday on the radio before the Palace game and he said there may be 2 or 3 more players coming in, so watch this space! Hopefully a goalkeeper and two full-backs then, if Chambers is going anyway.
eye666 Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 Definately would need to be replaced should he go. Certainly think we need at least 3 players, preferably 4 - a goalkeeper to challenge Henderson, 2 full-backs and maybe another striker. I wasn't too convinced by Chambers from what I saw last season - looked pacey, but his positioning wasn't the greatest, and his passing was at times not the greatest. The same could, however, have been said about most players last season. Would be a blow to lose a right-back (gone from having a thousand to having one), but he could be replaced.
Spiritwalker Posted 3 August 2008 Posted 3 August 2008 I agree this will weaken the squad I only hope this means we have another full back lined up otherwise what is the point of letting him go ? I can't imagine he is a big earner at the club.
