Father Ted Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 Come on Rooney ! DIdn't quite work out for him @ the guy who dived for the line and got bronze
Benji Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 phillips needs a big one soon that portugese guy looks like he can do another 10/20cm easy
Benji Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 the way everyone is bottling it at the minute with the relays and the 400m, wonder what the odds would be on this Cudan favourite falling over the hurdles
purpleronnie Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 I Said he wouldn't win, and that was cemented when that pillock edwards said he'd put his house on him winning a gold, why say things like that?????????? But at least he did have a couple of good jumps.
TrickyTrev Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 It's not a UK rule it is standard in Athletics, i remeber reading an Article just before the olympics started where Craig Motram (5000m runner) had a testers and her husband show up to get him for a urine test and they rocked up late at night after he had just been for a wee-wee as he was going to bed the tester and husband had to stay up and watch him sleep all night as he stated that he had just been and couldn't go again. When he woke up there they were still siting there. As is his normal ritual he went to the toilet chaufferoned by the testers husband and he sat down on the toilet and the husband said sorry u must stand to do your urine test, much to the guys discuss when Motram said sorry mate this isn't for you i do this every morning as the guy stood there and watched him poo followed by the urine sample 8 hours after they arrived Above is a true story i couldn't stop laughing. Funny story. It is UK testing. The only world standard is the WADA testing which is inaqauete out of competition, which is why people are suspicious of athletes from countries that don't compete on the grand prix circuit and then pitch up at the major championships. Ausrtralia may too have their own testing procedure.
dandannieldanok Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 Idowu couldn't handle the pressure Just as I predicted, if he had the temperament and consistency that Jonathan Edwards had then he would have easily been a gold medalist. He had a great chance in what was a mediocre field in all reality and he just fell short. Never mind, a silver medal is still a great achievement.
isaidno Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 Idowu couldn't handle the pressure I wouldn't say that, the Portugese guy was just better than him

Well Edwards lost at Atlanta when massive favorite at the same age Idowu is now, we all know what happened 4 years later. Phillips jumped 5 cm less than his outdoor PB in wet conditions with negligible wind, to say he didn't perform is a litle bit harsh.
Milky Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 To be fair to Phillips, he did jump a seasons best. Plus the winning jump was further than Phillips had jumped outside since 2002. The winner (world champion by the way) was just too good on the day.

purpleronnie Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 I this, I that. It's all you ever say! Its true though, feel free to read my other post, I know you want to. I cant help being right all the time.
lavrentis Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 I just can't believe the amount of medals we have as I have just seen the table!
purpleronnie Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 I just can't believe the amount of medals we have as I have just seen the table! I think were pretty much guarenteed to be in the top 4 at the end, amazing really.
l444ry Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 Musharraf Resigns After Pakistan Olympic Team Fails To Win A Medal. Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has announced that he will resign as a direct result of the Pakistan Olympic team's failure to win a medal at Beijing Games. Mr. Musharraf has been a staunch ally of the US and President George Bush in the War Against Terror (WAT) and his resignation leaves the West on tenterhooks about what those nasty Muzzies will do next. The Pakistan team's failure to win a medal should come as no surprise to Mr Musharraf, however, as, apart from cricket, Pakistan are crap at sport. The last time Pakistan won a medal of any colour was in 1912, when they took won a bronze in the Mens Bombmaking. In recent times, even the cricket team have failed to impress, and at the last World Cup their coach Bob Woolmer was 'sacked'. President Bush said in a speech tonight: "I am saddened by the decision of Mr Musafir to desertify his post. He and Pakiland have been an extremist good friend to us, and my only wish is that his Pakthletes could have won a medal and saved his job." Musharraf is expected to live in London where many failed dictators seem to end up.
Ultra Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 To be fair to Phillips, he did jump a seasons best. Plus the winning jump was further than Phillips had jumped outside since 2002. The winner (world champion by the way) was just too good on the day. It's similar to what happened with Ohuruogu and Sanya Richards. Evora had been saving himself all year for this event and delivered when it mattered. At least Idowu will have the motivation to seek revenge in 2012.
Lovejoy Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 How crazy is the fact that when Usain Bolt was 15 he ran the 200m in 20.3 seconds ? When I was 15, I finished runner-up in the East Of England 200m and ran 23.4 seconds! The guy is a machine !

It just goes to show, what proper training grit and determination can do for you.
Lovejoy Posted 21 August 2008 Posted 21 August 2008 23.4 is still good mate. It just goes to show, what proper training grit and determination can do for you. And staying clear of serious injuries . I couldn't outsprint a tortoise these days . He is a one off though!
