purpleronnie Posted 11 August 2008 Posted 11 August 2008 Swimming races are often decided by fractions of a second... nothing to do with luck. Exactly, I'm sure if we'd have won it it would have been the best performance ever!
Darkzzz_ Posted 11 August 2008 Posted 11 August 2008 Keep these sexy photo's coming in. I think I could possibly get a few days off work for being disabled from the waist down.
Manwell Pablo Posted 11 August 2008 Posted 11 August 2008 Watching Mr Murray this morning, hopefully he does a bit better than Tim did in Athens.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 11 August 2008 Posted 11 August 2008 Keep these sexy photo's coming in.I think I could possibly get a few days off work for being disabled from the waist down. Will do sir
AoWW Posted 11 August 2008 Posted 11 August 2008 And your missing out on a posh woman falling off a horse.Ha! Why do people always assume that horse riders are posh? I used to Three Day Event competitively, and I ain't posh. Though, in all fairness, I did give it up because I couldn't afford it. I really should have married someone posh rich.
Jordan Posted 11 August 2008 Posted 11 August 2008 Little old Britain which has apparently only got 3 Olympic size swimming pools in the WHOLE country. There's probably more than that in some redneck outpost in Texas. How embarassing for the Yank.Ha. Oh and as for your rant earlier it still doesn't change what Raj said earlier. America DOES suck. That's not envy, it's the truth. Considering both the defending champion and the current world record holder were in the race, for a 19-year-old American to finish second, that's not bad. She'll just have to win gold in your pool in four years. And the United States is looking good with 8 swimming medals already--a number that's sure to rise as the Games continue. wait, what's your point again? Oh, there really isn't any? Well, in that case, back to the sport.

Well, in that case, back to the sport. Now now, you should learn to not take things quite so seriously. My point was clearly missed by you but then Americans are not particularly known for their subtlety are they? I was actually drawing attention to the chronic lack of funding of sport in this country in the hope that it may trigger a little mini-debate, which it has. Point made. I was also having a tongue-in-cheek laugh at you (and ultimately myself) because America which throws money at sport got beaten by a Brit who probably had to move house to be near a decent swimming pool.
Manwell Pablo Posted 11 August 2008 Posted 11 August 2008 Dunno why Murray bothred entering this if he wasn't going to take it seriously.

Point made.I was also having a tongue-in-cheek laugh at you (and ultimately myself) because America which throws money at sport got beaten by a Brit who probably had to move house to be near a decent swimming pool. 1) My rant was directed more at the whole who's-Olympics-worthy thing, not about any particular country. A few Yanks and a Brit just happened to be used as examples. 2) I know what you mean, hence my point to congratulate the British swimmers and mockingly call them limey bastards for swiping gold at the last breath. 3) Well, now that you call it a "chronic lack of funding," and thus express your opinion on the matter, you're making your point. Discussion isn't all about finesse; sometimes you have to, you know, discuss things. "USA sucks" isn't subtle. 4) It's ... wait, I just ruined this thread, didn't I?

I would have thought the below quote was enough for people to read between the lines and understand the point I was making. It was enough for purpleronnie and davieG anyway... Little old Britain which has apparently only got 3 Olympic size swimming pools in the WHOLE country. As for your other comments, I'll remember to be wary of banter when you're around. But anyway, back to sport - China look like they're going to take the piss at these Games. 8th gold medal won, this one in the weightlifting, and it's only day 3.
Manwell Pablo Posted 11 August 2008 Posted 11 August 2008 Dunno why Murray bothred entering this if he wasn't going to take it seriously. What a waste of a morning that was.
Jon the Hat Posted 11 August 2008 Posted 11 August 2008 Little old Britain which has apparently only got 3 Olympic size swimming pools in the WHOLE country. In a moment of boredom I looked into this the other day... There are in fact 5 Olypmic standard pools, with another 3 (wow) under construction or planned. However, there are in fact another 20 or so 50 metres pools which have 8 instead of 10 lanes. For training purposes there seems little difference between an 8 and 10 lane pool, so this is not reallya factor. On the other hand most of these pools are probably old and horrible. There. I have turned one moment of boredom for me into a whole load of boredom for you all..

To put that into context an Australian colleague says his home town back in Oz has roughly 6 or 7 Olympic standard pools, his town is probably half the size of Leicester.
Milky Posted 11 August 2008 Posted 11 August 2008 If Murray was english purpleronnie would be slating him right about now! If it was Henman then god help us all.
purpleronnie Posted 11 August 2008 Posted 11 August 2008 If Murray was english purpleronnie would be slating him right about now! If it was Henman then god help us all. I am a fan of Murray but to say he looked uninterested would be an understatement. But he was rubbish. BTW it works both ways too.

Sorry to but in on this absorbing discussion but how can you ''roughly clarify'' something?
Milky Posted 11 August 2008 Posted 11 August 2008 I honestly didn't think Murray looked uninterested. He was just outplayed by a man playing the match of his life. Murray wanted a medal here, make no mistake.

Milky Posted 11 August 2008 Posted 11 August 2008 Murray brothers just lost the first set. Great comeback to win 2-1. Phew!
lildave3 Posted 11 August 2008 Posted 11 August 2008 The diving was a right anti-climax. And Aldridge has come out and blamed the kid apparently
AoWW Posted 11 August 2008 Posted 11 August 2008 The diving was a right anti-climax.And Aldridge has come out and blamed the kid apparently Yep, just seen an interview with Aldridge on the news - 'abrasive' is the word I'd use.
