JoeyB Posted 9 August 2008 Posted 9 August 2008 Henderson 7 - Solid when called upon. Gilbert 5 - Unfortunately I didn't think he had a great game and he looked shaky on a few ocassions. I can definitely see room for a good partnership down the right with Gradel though. Tunchev 7.5 - Gareth who? Morrison 7 - Played very well today I thought, and made one very crucial block when we were just the one goal up. Mattock 6.5 - I was impressed with him today. Absolutely delicious ball to send Fryatt away that lead to the penalty. Gradel 8 - I love him. He's got so much confidence and it's so refreshing to see somebody attack the fullback like he does. Fantastic work for Fryatt's second goal. Oakley 6 - Fairly quiet game like his other central midfield partner but looked good in the tackle. Wish he'd shoot more though. King 6 - As I said, like Oakley he was quiet but he played well. I think we'll see a lot more of him this season. Dyer 6 - First half he got a lot of the ball and was always looking to do something constructive with it. Second half he was quieter but I think he's going to play a big part this season. Fryatt 7 - Are we finally going to see the good side to him? Two goals, what more can I say? Howard 5 - Has he changed at all? He still looks a right lazy bastard to me. Few changes fryatt 9 never stopped howard 7 MOrrison 7.5 was solid but toher than that agree fully

Tunchev 6.5 Looks very good in the air and I love the way he doesn't just hump it up in the air. On the ground though I'm not so certain. He was turned quite easily on more than 4 occasions and didn't seem to have the pace/fitness to recover. Overall though I think he will be quality. Morrison 6.5 Thought he did well. Again won his headers. Distribution and keeping hold of the ball could be better though. Gilbert 6.5 Looks good going forward but also got caught out defensively on a couple of occasions. His pace is a real asset. King 6 He did ok but hardly stamped his authority on the game. We need better than this in the centre of midfield if we are to be serious promotion candidates. Oakley 6 Another average performance but where was he for nearly all the second half? he should be dominating midfields in this league but didn't do so today. Dyer 7 mainly for his first hald show when he was very good. Faded in the second half. Gradel 7 Would have been a 6 but for his assist in the second goal. He has some nice tricks but his crossing is poor. Defensively he needs to imrpove as well though his tenancity is a real strength. Howard 6 He did ok but he's just so slow. Seemed to link ok with Fryatt. Fryatt 8 2 goals and some nice touches. Probably should have had a hat trick but it would be churlish to complain. Looks fitter and this league should be his level. Dickov 6 Typical running and 1 or 2 nice lay offs. Didn't really get the service he requires.

Him and Gradel linked up well and he's strong in the tackle Tunchev - 9 MOTM, Without him we'd be lost. Morrison - 7 Fairly decent tbh, same as Gilbert if basing on Pre Season. Better performance and should expect big things from this lad. Mattock - 7 Did well and did his job. Gradel - 8.5 Quality, always crying for the ball this is the urgency we need. Oakley - 7 Very good first half always there to provide an extra man on the edge of the box King - 7 Like the guy he had a decent performance today can't fault him. Gets the ball and knocks it around. Big season for him. Dyer - 7 Did very well and certainly wanted to prove the doubters wrong, bit greedy at times though. Fryatt - 7.5 Good run for the penalty, well taken penalty and was at the right place for the goal. Mr Composure and that's what we need Howard - 7. A rating of 7 is fair, he did what he required and is a big presence. Fans expect too much of him but he's there to provide. ---- Dickov - 6 Welcome return, didn't have much time to do much but looked fit as a fiddle and can't wait to see him more often. Hobbs N/A (Note. Very bemused as to why he didn't start today.)

Gilbert - 6.5 - Was good at times but lost his man on 2 occsasions atleast that could have cost us. Tunchev -7- Did well, I was a little worried with his shirt pulling and climbing but he was calm and solid. Morrison -7.5- He impressed me, looked assured and was always trying to organise. Mattock -6.5- Did nothing wrong defensively, didn't seem to know what to do with the ball when he had posession. Gradel -7.5- I thought he was a bit hit and miss first half but was very good the last 20 minutes. Oakley -7- Excellent first half, ran the show. Little quieter second but still controlled things. King -7- As above really. Dyer -6.5- Had an excellent first 20 minutes or so but didn't seem to do much after that. Came in off his flank a little too much though for me. Howard -6.5- Linked up well with Fryatt, won his fair share in the air as well. Fryatt -8- Looks confident, making intelligent runs and 2 goals.

Gilbert 7.25 - Had a solid game today, always very quick to close down, although you have to be REALLY good to wear boots that bright, but one day he could be. Supported attacks well and didn't dilly dally as Stearman did at times. Not the greatest throw-in. Mattock 6.75 - Linked well with Dyer, got forward well, even got into shooting opportunities a couple of times. It seemed as if he was out to impress. Got the assist for the penalty. Morrison 7.5 - Very big and strong. Distribution was really top notch. Could forge a great partnership with Tunchev. Very good in the air aswell. I'm impressed. Tunchev 7.25 - Good in the air and strong. Fast enough aswell. Good in the tackle, only weakness in occasionally getting turned too easily but I think that could be down to match fitness. Distribution also good. Gradel 8 - Wonderful control and vision. Great trickery, had Lewington in his pocket for most of the game. Great skill and pace, links well with other players, isn't afraid to use his left foot either. Just crossing lets him down. Would easily be a Premiership player if his crossing was better. Dyer 7 - Started off very well, looked up for it especially as it was against his old team. Got laid a few times with tough tackles but got up and battled on every time. Cuts in and shows a lot of quality at periods but then an odd donkey moment now and then with a short pass, etc. Impressed. Died off second half. Would prefer Adams or Gradel though I still think... King 7.25 - His partnership with Oakley could well be the key to a successful season this year. Won the little things that were needed. Tracked back well and also allowed Oakley to roam more. Much better passer than Weso and Clemence. Oakley 7.5 - Got forward well, got stuck in and spread the play around. Led by example, got in dangerous positions on the edge of the box. Could score a few this season. Howard 7 - Won virtually all of his headers. Forged a great partnership with Fryatt, lost a bit of weight and looks sharper. Definite improvement on last season. Fryatt 8.5 - MOTM - Lost weight aswell, very sharp, on the ball. Some great runs, wonderful dummies. Carried on working all day, well put away penalty and comfortable second finish. Linked well with Howard, following his flick-ons, ran into the wings and down the middle. Was everyhere. Dickov 6.5 - Worked hard, didn't stop chasing. Same old Dickov as before. Hobbs - Not on long enough. Fryatt-Howard partnership is looking very promising as is the Oakley-King partnership. I also think that if given time, the Tunchev-Morrison partnership could be like the Mcauley-Kisnorbo partnership of last year but instead of hoofing the ball into nowhere, they actually know how to pass. The middle of the side is often most important and there is an awful lot of potential there. Early days but it's looking very promising. Also, MK Dons, 4th favourites for promotion?!?! - There just average, as Peterborough will be aswell I think. Pearson 7.5 - Has got tactics absolutely spot on so far.

Gilbert - 7.5 Good athlete and linked well with gradel Gradel - 8 Gave us a cutting edge, would have got a 9 but his final product often let him down. Raw talent Oakley - 7.5 Looked comfy inthe middle, could be our key this season. More to come King - 7 Did the dirty work Dyer - 6.5 Showed glimpses.. but on several occasions could have put players through but just held onto the ball too much Fryatt - 8.5 Looked dangerous and was rewarded with 2 goals Howard - 6 All he can do is jump and head, my grandma has a better turn of pace. Dicov - 6 Didn't really make much of an impact apart from lift the crowd. Hobbs - N/A

Dyer 6- good at the start lost his way 2nd halve King 6- Solid maybe a bit lost sometimes but did win some good balls Oakley 7- Good playmaking and forward runs Howard 6- Won a few headers and linked well with Matty but Still seems a little lazy Fryatt 8- MOTM Pleased that he got both goals, was there when he needed to be. Some really good link play. Dickov 6.5- So pleased he has come back. still chasing everything Hobbs- N/A

Tunchev 6 - Unlike everyone else I was unnerved by his presence, yes he can pass with composure but defensively for me he was a bit sloppy. Morrison 8 - Not a perfect display by any means but dug us out of the shit a few times and won most of the aerial battles. Very promising. Mattock 6.5 - Got forward reasonably well and was competent in defence. Gradel 7.5 - Always caused ginger nut problems and made a telling break for the winning goal. Oakley 6.5 - Tidied things up well but I'm still waiting for him to really stamp his mark on a game. King 7 - Decent performance, nice touches, a touch lightweight but battled hard. Dyer 6 - Impressive in the first 20 minutes with his direct running but as the service dried up he became increasingly isolated. Fryatt 8 - Good close control, confident running and two goals, nice start. Howard 6 - Some nice touches and interplay with Fryatt but too slow whilst both on and off the ball, still unconvinced he can play a key role this season. Dickov 6 - Tireless running and good workrate, no decent service.
