Guest Bilo Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 As great as the Olympics have been, I can't help thinking there are one o two very popular sports conspicuous by their absence. London 2012 would a good place to add some, Cricket making it's Olympic debut at Lords would be awesome for example. The same could be said of Rugby at Twickenham. All the sports I've mentioned are played in enough countries to make them viable imo, just wondered what other people thought?

None there's far too many already - they should dump tennis and football for a start.
Father Ted Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 Sevens and Darts. Forget about cricket - waste of time.
Guest Bilo Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 None there's far too many already - they should dump tennis and football for a start. In a way, I'm inclined to agree. The empty stadia in Beijing show there are too many sports that aren't capturing the imagination. I do think though, that some of these sports should be replaced by sports that would capture the imagination of the public.
Asha Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 There shouldn't be football. The others would all be shite as well.
Joe. Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 None should be added, there's too many as it is. The football and tennis are a farce already.
Guest Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 Out of those choices I'd have to say sevens. Great version of rugby. I prefer normal 15 a side union but 7's is very entertaining and it wouldn't take too long to get through a tournament of it, as anybody who watches it knows.
Maybes Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 None should be added, there's too many as it is. The football and tennis are a farce already. I agree. I dont like it at all. You have the World Cup etc for sports like this.

Father Ted Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 Football has been at the Olympics for around 100 years. It's hardly going to be scrapped now.
RowlattsFox Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 Didn't they used to have Rugby sevens? I'm sure I remember seeing it before.
Phube Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 Darts, Sevens & 20-Twenty. Darts is as skill full as shooting/archery... so why not!? Sevens is an accessible form of rugby. Same with 20-Twenty... even the Americans could give it a go!
purpleronnie Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 None of them, infact some current events should be removed. I mean BMX as an olympic sport give me a break.
LeeCovFox Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 I don't like any sport included for which the olympics isn't the career highlight for those participating. For tennis players the olympics is 5th priority at best, and for football players it is probably even further down the pecking order. I read that Roger Federer's olympic press conference was the most attended of any athlete. Great as the man is a what he does, I just feel that it takes the spotlight away from those, largely amateur athletes, who have trained for 4 years just to participate in their chosen event.
Jordan Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 It's only a matter of time before Twenty20 cricket is added to the program. Rugby sevens is a good call. Golf, perhaps. (all three of those sports were in the Olympics program in some form waaaay back in tha day.) But really, c'mon, IOC, BRING BACK TUG OF WAR!

I couldn't see cricket ever being entered but if BMX can get in them maybe it can...Hope not though.

Fox You Forest Posted 17 August 2008 Posted 17 August 2008 I agree with most there are far to many. If i had to pick one off the list it would be Rugby Sevens.
