We would have been an embarrassment. Having said that, humiliation on such a big stage might have been just the tonic needed.

Still got Gerrard out of position to accomodate Lampard and Beckham. Why? It also has to be said that we have no centre forwards.

He can certainly pass a ball, which is lacking at times from England. I didn't see the game tonight, so can't comment on what happened, but speaking generally, I think Barry is good enough. Brown on the other hand, just isn't. Even saying that though, Sir Alex has kept hold of him and clearly values him, and I'm reluctant to question the man's judgement, he must see something in him.

Slow tempo lots of misplaced passes and why does the midfield revolve around bloody lampard gerrard and beckham. Neither of them had a good game and as soon as Joe Cole finally came on things started to liven up

Its just that I can see Barry being annoited as the next mediocre England player that everyone pushes to be in the side ahead of far better players just because he doesn't play for one of the big 4. In the last few years we've had the campaign to drop Ashley Cole for Wayne Bridge (Especially pre-joining Chelsea) and David Beckham for Sean Wright-Phillips (Again pre-joining Chelsea)/Aaron Lennon. It really is a silly national trait.
