I don't think the pace is so important as you go further down the leagues, so I don't think that'll be too much of a problem.

From what i've seen he's not a bad passer and is a very good reader of the game.

As a short term fix, I think Powell is good enough. Although we'll see more tomorrow I suppose.

We'll agree to disagree about the pace but, whatever, I sincerely hope you're proved right and good luck to the bloke.

He's been a far better player than alan fooking sheehan will ever be, 5 england caps and a career at the top level for almost his entire career, so pipe down, less of your chat thanks

I never expected to be given an an ancient history lesson late on a Friday night.

He played for Charlton at the Walkers last season didnt he, and i thought he could still do a job, even at his age. And i still do. I think he'll be perfectly fine, though his fitness could be an issue at the minute.

Powell will be fine for a quick fix, as long as he has looked after himself and retained a degree of fitness, I don`t think we hit the 12 noon deadline so unless it was done as a loan signing which is a 5pm one he`ll probably miss tomorrow.

What if it was a pay as you play contract does that go up to 5 and can you actually arrange a loan signing if he's not with another club?

He's been training with us this week, and at bournemouth over the summer, i'm sure he had a club to train with as dickov did.

Cant see to much wrong this signing as a short term fix

I could have poked him in the eye yesterday though.....I was watching the premierships 50 greatest ever goals, and one of them was shaun barlett.chris powell was hugging him, with that big mouth full of teeth and his chesire cat smile, damn that goal was good

I can't believe you guys are letting Thracian get away with downplaying Sheehan's ability like this!! He's the best player we've produced in decades!

zzzzzzzzzz, same old from so many.

Last week people were selecting Gradel or Dyer to be playing at left back. This week we sign an experienced left back for the short term and you moan. Embarrassing.

Just goes to show, we should never have let Sheehan go. He was the best left back we've had for ages and his set pieces were amazing.

Most of all I miss his near-things though oh and his disallowed goals which I can't remember, but I'm sure they must have happened.

5/9? What?

Thracian - are you feeling alright?

Frankly I don't think think Thracian will ever appriciate Sheehan's talents to the extent we do. He's blinded by the constant mantra of experience thats been the default choice of too many of our previous managers.

Doubt he's on much, doubt he'll play much. Bit of backup and a respectable experienced head to have around. See nothing wrong with this as long as he's not earmarked as first choice left back, I hope we have some alternate plans.

From OS

Powell began his career in December as a trainee at Crystal Palace before joining Aldershot on loan.

Well he started his career very late but seems to have crammed a lot in over the 9 months :P

"He is coming towards the end of his playing career but is still very fit. He has been put through some rigorous testing and passed with flying colours.

Sounds reasonable enough to me.

I'm sad that we don't appear to be able to buy anyone now we aren't selling Mattock - but if Powell has done enough to impress a very decent ex-centre back then I'm ok with it.

Moreover - having someone as responsible as him on board is another step on the road to ridding the club of the shitty attitude our players have had over seasons past. We are exhibiting a far higher level of effort and work-rate this season and I hope Powell can add something to the mix. Welcome to the club Chris. :scarf:

I noticed this! I think the OS were embarrassed he started his career in 1989 and they wanted it to be 1990 until they started mentioning dates!
