Fans berating Howard

that's part of the problem

You don't seem to understand - his success at Derby and Luton wasn't based on pace. He's best when the ball is played up to him at chest or ground level, bringing others in to play and taking up positions in the box from crosses and set pieces. It's all about the right delivery with Howard. There's no point in asking him to chase balls in to the channels or latch on to balls over the top, that's not his game.

Even when he wasn't scoring, he was trying to contribute whereas the twisted ex-roof at the side of the Holiday Inn Express had more movement than Howard last season. Howard is doing well at the minute and will get goals at this level, everyone has said that but there are some fans who won't let players start with a clean slate and unless he bangs in 1 every other game, they'll use last season's form at every opportunity they get.

But Fryatt was actually WORSE than Howard for much of last season, and yet for some reason attracts far less stick.

Too many fans are guilty of double standards.

I don't think he is a target man, not in the true sense. He seems to prefer balls being played on the ground. :dunno:

A target man basically means giving the ball to someone who will hold the ball up and then bring someone else into play.

Doesn't mean the ball has to be played in the air.

but that's exactly the kind of football that got us relegated last season. what you're saying is that he works best in a poor system

Football didn't get us relegated a lack of football did.

Fans only see what they want to see. It's always been the way. Look at England for example. Beckham, an icon, can have a bad game and he gets clapped off. Downing, on the other hand, can have a bad game and gets booed off.

I think Fryatt and Howard both deserve praise for upping their game and looking a lot more threatening as a strikeforce.

Howard is a useless twat.

He is personally responsible for the stagnation in the housing market, Boris Johnson's crap ping-pong joke and my dog eating my iPod headphones.

willy puller.

The sooner he's out of the club the sooner peace will return to the Middle East!

Well Thrac,

I cant be bothered to trawl through stats about players!

I comment on what I see with my own eyes, he looked ineffective to me yesterday, that may partly down to his lack of football/fitness? I often think thats an easy excuse to hide behind, Ive seen plenty of Porter when fully fit and my opinion of him is the same, I'll never boo him though.

Porter is clearly one of your faves, thats fair enough, but I personally couldnt give a monkeys about all the stats and what weve achieved as a team with or without him!

To me, he is (always has been) too slow and overweight! I think Dyer is much more dangerous and actually attacked their defence more often than Porter which is ironic as he was left back.

Im all for playing youngsters, especially local ones, but only if they are good enough and in my opinion Porter isnt.

Totally agree, when will people realise than Levi Porter is shite!! Simple as!!

Anyway this is an Howard thread and the guy as done well this season, as i said earlier and all summer, Howard as well as Fryatt will be very good players in this league and will almost guarentee you goals! End Of!!!

I've stuck up for Howard last season and all through pre-season. It's nice to see him start to show his true worth, I knew he had the ability at this level, likewise Fryatt to a certain extent. I just wish fans would swallow their pride and get behind Big Steve.

He was colossal on Saturday and Goodison, who I think is as good a centre half as you'll get at this level, was given a torrid time by Howard.

If he can get a bit more confident and that natural instinct in front of goal back, then the goals will start to flow and we'll be loving it.

I'm glad he's scoring for city, and aslong as we keep winning you can't really complain. But it's all relative, it's what we should expect from him and Fryatt at this level, let's not get too carried away and let's not be too negative, there will be tough times ahead, and if both Howard and Fryatt want long carreers at this club they both will have to improve and continue to come up with the goods at higher levels!!

Fulham will be a good test for both, let's see if there booming confidence and overcome there past failures!!!

Absolutely. But just because they are doing what they should do, doesn't mean fans should abuse them/him either. Howard is paid to score goals and create opportunities by holding the ball up and winning headers, so when he does do that he should be encouraged and supported. But the fans aren't ackowledging the improvement in his game, even if we have now dropped to a level where Howard and Fryatt are more than comfortable at.

The fans have the same attitude as the mrs, no matter how much my behaviour improves (ie sit at home with her and not get lashed), she will never stop moaning. So I say fook the moaners, i'm gonna go out enjoy myself get lashed, try pull some birds, so Ric, your quite welcome to join me and stick the middle fooker at he fans and enjoy our success!!!

BENT LOGIC!

I stuck up for steve last year, I thought that to start with he did really try, but was woeful at the arse end of the season, he probably got fed up with how we were playing also. However my frustrations have gotten the better of me since pre season and has been an esay target for donkey calls from myself.

All I can conclude is that if I berate all our players like i have done to Steve recently they will start performing  & if I cheer them on they will go back to their old underperforming ways, so when you see that twat shouting his mouth off just you remember that he is doning it for the love of his club & Steve Howards regained form

I thought Steve Howard was one sexy bastard when he scored the hattrick against West Brom. Although he was a passenger in most games he played last season, he still had 6 goals in 18 games, which is a decent record for lazy bastard like him I suppose.

Howard is our Superman.
