Jimmy Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 What did Spurs pay for Bale? around the same but going up to 10 on clauses
Maybes Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 What did Spurs pay for Bale? The RUMOR i've heard was Sunderland want/bid £3.5m for him. I would doubt that. Although hang its Sunderland anything is possible. Like Joe said if it was that much I am sure Mando would have accepted it!
Tilley Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Mandaric will accept anything over £3 million, Which is an obscene amount.

Thracian Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 His potential is worth more than that and thats what you pay for. The potential would more likely be paid for in the add ons. I would be staggered if anyone offered more than £2.25m down. At the moment Mattock is a work in progress. He's had the advantage of being big and strong for his age but that is already being negated and it's increasingly down to performances and achievement. Okay he's got his England age-group caps but I wouldn't say he's ever quite established himself as an automatic choice even in what was a relegated first team last season, so that would hardly enhance his value. Just as I said last season that King had more to his game than he'd shown at that time so I'm still waiting for the real Joe Mattock to impact on the first team. This is the marauding Joe Mattock who presses high and makes regular inroads into the channel around the edge of the opposing penalty box and who can deliver a worthwhile crack at goal when given the chance. So far I've seen a mostly restrained Mattock, a lad who sometimes misreads a crossfield pass or gets himself the wrong side of an opposing winger. The defensive chinks need to be ironed out and the attacking bonuses built in to his everyday first team game before he's ever going to be worth £3m plus. Paying big for potential is a mugs game, especially if your club has fairly limited resources. Far more likely is cash on potential delivered. So £2.25m with add-ons would be my guess as being a reasonable offer. But as mentioned in the close season, I'd doubt Joe is in any hurry to move at his age (others might be keen on his behalf) and another season of learning should pay dividends aplenty if he regains his fitness and stays clear of further injury. Especially if we get promoted.
morris1234 Posted 28 August 2008 Author Posted 28 August 2008 What did Spurs pay for Bale? The RUMOR i've heard was Sunderland want/bid £3.5m for him. wikipedia. 'Bale completed a transfer to Tottenham on 25 May 2007, arranging a four-year deal, with Tottenham making an immediate payment of £5 million, with further additional payments that could see Bale's transfer go up to £10m' to be honest, i think the people saying more than 2.5 mill for mattock is crazy are wrong. there arent many good quality young english left backs even at the minute let alone for the future so i think he could well fetch 2.5 mill+
morris1234 Posted 28 August 2008 Author Posted 28 August 2008 Bale's better than Mattock. says who, he has a great free kick but thats about all i and most poeple know about bale! oh and that he looks like a chimp!
Asha Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 says who, he has a great free kick but thats about all i and most poeple know about bale! oh and that he looks like a chimp! Bale is a far better player. And when he left was a more accomplished player than Mattock. I agree with what Samilktray said.
Uncle Albert Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Bale is alot better than Mattock, but why would Mattock want to play for a team who we would face next year in The Championship in Sunderland.
sham Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 According to the mail online, Mattock is valued at £5million and there has been three bids for him turned down as they fell short of the above valuation. Sunderland, Newcastle and West Ham are the three prospective buyers. SOURCE
Mark Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 I've heard West Ham have bidded 200k below the asking price so I doubt the asking price is that high. Personally I hope he wants to stay for now, for his own good.
sham Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 The picture of Joe in the article is fecking brill! looks like a retard!
Bert Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 The picture of Joe in the article is fecking brill! looks like a retard! He was trying to impersonate you.

Bert Posted 28 August 2008 Posted 28 August 2008 Cheap shot. I don't even know you. What's your problem mate? Haha. Oh my. No problem whatsoever. If anyone on here had've posted the same comment, I would've responded the same, chill out.

Daggers Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 I find it funny how people actually believe Mattock's worth more than £3 million. Someone seemed to think that Campbell was worth £1.6million with the possibility of paying £2.1m for him. Mattock has more ability and potential than him, eh? "One of the hottest rated young players in the game": He has been cemented in as a first-team regular since 17yrs old, has clocked up 26 caps at various levels and is very highly thought of by players, coaches and managers within the game. If Mattock isn't worth more than £3million in today's mad player market then there is something seriously ****ed-up. Maybe if he had a funny haircut people on here would value him higher? We'll sell him sooner or later - and while MM is pulling the purse strings I just hope it's for a decent sum that is thrown straight back into strengthening the squad and youth team development...we need to make us another Mattock.

He's an England international, one of the youngest u - 21 call ups ever. He's got masses of potetial. We didn't start this financial transfer madness, but we'd be stupid to be the only ones not to appreciate that it exists. We don't need the money, and we do need assetts like Joe.

Exactly. He may not be worth tens of millions but in this market we'd be stupid to settle for £3 million when Bale, Ramsey etc are going for £10 million or more.
Joe. Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 I don't quite understand how his value has shot up in the last two to three months. At the start of the summer the figure reported was between £1-2m and now it's suddenly rose to £5m?
Mark Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 1-2 million, the same price of a DJ Campbell or a Steve Howard. Whoever bidded that amount wasn't being serious.
Dr The Singh Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 1-2 million, the same price of a DJ Campbell or a Steve Howard. Whoever bidded that amount wasn't being serious. It seems like there 'testing the water'. Were under no pressure to sell, were a team on the up, success breeds success, I can only see Mattocks valuation increasing!!
Halfsy Posted 29 August 2008 Posted 29 August 2008 Firstly, although Joe Mattock is a very promising young talent, he is not as good or established as players such as Bale, Ramsey or Gunter that he is being compared to. Secondly, the valuation of him has no bearing on the transfer fee paid for other players at the club such as Campbell or Howard, but it should reflect his value to our squad and the work that has been put in at academy level to nurture his talent. We are under no pressure to sell and although Joe said to me that he would like to go to Aston Villa at some point he is happy here. Having been capped at England u21 level and the price of today's inflated transfer market, Mandaric is likely to turn anything down below £3-4 million.
