Add to that Wants to play attacking, passing football Sets up the team to score rather than not concede
lcfc81 Posted 31 August 2008 Posted 31 August 2008 And just to think we could have had the great John Gregory!!!
Thracian Posted 31 August 2008 Posted 31 August 2008 Add to thatWants to play attacking, passing football Sets up the team to score rather than not concede Even counting friendlies I think we've only failed to score once since Pearson arrived and that wasn't for the want of trying. It's not so long ago we were lining up with eight or nine defenders at Burnley!

We've carried on our attacking form from the friendlies, and to think everyone was concerned about the amount of goals conceded
Trav Le Bleu Posted 31 August 2008 Posted 31 August 2008 I'm liking it, I'm liking it alot, BUT with every new manager someone always has to saying "This could be the new MON". It's eyes rolling time when people say that after only a few games. After all, if they were the new MON, then after 5-6 games, we still wouldn't have won anything. People are always quick to jump one way or the other, usually with both feet. Having said that, can't complain so far. Results with style - keep it up Nige!
Bryn Posted 31 August 2008 Posted 31 August 2008 And just to think we could have had the great John Gregory!!! Yeah I think the fact that Mandaric failed to get any one of his first choices has paid dividends.

That was a special chapter in our history, no question. But MON only hoisted us so far. High yes. But not as high as the bar could go. I'd love Pearson to take us places we've never been, and I don't mean Yeovil. Yes, I'm aware that the chances are he'll be tempted away in time. But what price the chance to make real history and to take teams of yours right up the League and through into big-time Europe? It's only if you aim for the stars you have any chance of reaching them. And the question is, does Pearson want to be a manager who passes through Leicester City or does he want to be a true legend?

I completely agree with everything you've said there. I fervently hope that Mandaric has found City's Redknapp, a manager who can take us to heights we didn't dare to dream of. Who would have thought for instance, that Portsmouth would be a regular addition to the Premiership top ten and win the FA Cup when Mandaric bought a skint club with a ramshackle ground near the bottom of the second tier? If Pompey did it with Redknapp, why can't City with Pearson? We talk in a tongue-in-cheek manner of our status as a 'big club', but the potential of our club is huge. We have a Premiership standard fanbase, Premiership standard stadium and Premiership standard youth academy. When Mandaric walked into Fratton Park, Portsmouth had none of these things. These are exciting times indeed.

I just hope people don't say we've got a new MON now, because their expectations will be raised too high too soon and could put unneccesary pressure on the bloke.
Legend_in_blue Posted 31 August 2008 Posted 31 August 2008 And to think that people wanted Jewell way back. Oh, how times change in the footballing world...
