Daggers Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Lobbing that bloke out after popping him in a choke hold was simply ****ing ridiculous. Then, by all accounts, they did the same to a bloke in the toilets who was having a fag...only they claimed he hit one of them so he ended up going to the local nick. Totally over the top IMHO.
Head Honcho Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 Them and the police were a decent bunch tbh. Didn't see or hear about any incidents and they even congratulated us on the way out of the ground.
Jimmy Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 the 1 i spoke to at HT was al right, the welsh lass, she seemed to have enough common sence but had her hands tied by the ground regulations
clazkel Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 I thought they were quite relaxed towards us, at half time we were able to stand at the side of the pitch and they allowed it. One of our fans behind the goal was dancing around (guy in the grey), if that happened at Leicester you would be asked to sit down or escorted out, but he was having a good time so its good they left him alone. Great atmosphere, great day!!!
Tilley Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 There was an argument brewing near me, over the people on the front row standing, because people were walking aross to get food etc and blocking their view, & he was threatening to thrown them out. I'm on about the steward who got quite a lot of stick.
Teeno Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 We got into Cheltenham at about 10.50 and were meet by the police. They were great to be fair, although they followed us about most of the day. We had some good friendly banter with them, and they pretty much gave us a guided tour of Cheltenham town center pubs.

Alexikokopops Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 My mate supports Lincoln and he went down Whaddon Road with his dad once. The stewards were so over zealous that his dad's trousers fell down when they were searching him. Fantastic.
Fatbloke Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 If you are doing nothing wrong you`ll never have any grief from the Stewards, the bloke dragged out cracked me up trying to bite the stewards, he was clearly the type of bod that will cause bother so good riddance, the muppet in the grey should be treated with the contempt he deserves, hate pratts that think they can lead us all into singing when we were already in full voice, oh the wonders of alcohol !
Ultra Posted 30 August 2008 Posted 30 August 2008 The plod in the pub were fine. The stewards in the ground weren't - they reminded me of Showsec at their worst. No doubt they'll have plenty of fun when Leeds and Millwall come to town.
Daggers Posted 31 August 2008 Author Posted 31 August 2008 If you are doing nothing wrong you`ll never have any grief from the Stewards Erm. No. If you are sitting down, facing forward and (preferably for them) remaining silent and motionless you`ll never have any grief from the Stewards. Tag onto that 'Middle Class', 'female' and 'in possession of a flask of luke-warm tea' and you can enjoy a match to your heart's content. Whatever your opinions about biting-bloke may be (which appear to be confirmed by his willingness to bite one of the stewards) he was doing nothing that a third of the City support weren't also doing, standing and singing. Plus, as extraction techniques go, the manner of his treatment during removal prior to the attempted biting was obscenely excessive. Dancing bloke is not the kind of chap we'd have around our place for fish'n'chips and I doubt I would enjoy a chat about Satre with Biting man...but that doesn't mean people are free to attack them for doing nothing wrong. It was noticeable how the standard of stewarding imporved in the second half after most of those who looked as though they'd just been dragged from the doors of a second-class nightclub vanished along with their tubby boss. Thanks to the police for injecting a little bit of common sense. The police were outstanding yesterday, a true credit to themselves before, during and after the game.
Simi Posted 31 August 2008 Posted 31 August 2008 As Bert said, the Police were top class which makes a change. Handing us leaflets for different pubs etc. The way the stewards took that bloke out was disgusting though. All he was doing was passivley standing at the back and they must have caused way more safety issues throwing him down the stairs whilst disturbing other supporters...
General Smuts Posted 31 August 2008 Posted 31 August 2008 Obviously as i was with Ched i agree with him the Po Po were top bananas. Also completely agree with Daggers Stewards were shocking.

Corky Posted 31 August 2008 Posted 31 August 2008 If you are doing nothing wrong you`ll never have any grief from the Stewards Oh really? The stewards would just create a problem that would lead to them showing "authority".
purpleronnie Posted 31 August 2008 Posted 31 August 2008 The difference in stewarding I've seen watching games in different countries is the english stewards were much more arrogant and seem to be on a power trip, who knows why in england people seem to love any opportunity to show authority and almost enjoy having any power is a mystery, other countries seem much more fun. I understand the rules in England are a lot stricter but there are ways to go about enforcing them.

Facing forward could be a problem though - I am inclined to squiggle and always like to see what's going on behind me.

Guest Posted 31 August 2008 Posted 31 August 2008 If you are doing nothing wrong you`ll never have any grief from the Stewards, the bloke dragged out cracked me up trying to bite the stewards, he was clearly the type of bod that will cause bother so good riddance, He wasn't doing anything that warranted being dragged down the stairs, and then strangled by some cockwad who will no doubt have been massaging his ego further by telling little boys they aren't old enough to go into whatever crappy establishment they are doing the doors for this weekend. I've seen the bloke around, and I've never seen him cause any trouble before, and having overheard what was going on before, and then heard some of his mates discussing the aftermath, the nature and manner of this guy's removal was excessive, to say the least.

Its the rules that are the problem, not the stewards.
Corky Posted 31 August 2008 Posted 31 August 2008 Most stewards just do what they are told, some do enjoy it more than others though. Its the rules that are the problem, not the stewards. I suppose, but common sense could be used a hell of a lot more in some situations.
Ross-Kemp Posted 31 August 2008 Posted 31 August 2008 I suppose, but common sense could be used a hell of a lot more in some situations. It could, i agree, but suprise suprise, it isn't. I have met some fantastic stewards over the years ( Rotherham, Southampton, Hull ) and then i've met some 'orrible fookers ( Preston, Fulham, Barnsley )
