Thracian Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 You're moaning that Dickov is being played out of position. But trying to justify that Levi would be good on the right wing, when he's a left sided player? There really is this misconception about Porter being simply a left-winger. Porter's played right wing, left-wing, attacking midfield and defensive midfield. If anything he's probably best in attacking midfield but, just as Stearman never got the chance to play centre-back in the first team, so Porter never gets the chance to play in centre midfield where he gets more chance to shoot and use his passing ability and range. It's perhaps another reason he might be better off leaving. He's become stereotyped here.

dandannieldanok Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 I don't know what has happened and I cba to trawl through this topic, but if it turns out he just went off for a few days and returned having failed to notify the club, then I hope he gets punished.

How do you punish a player who hardly ever gets a game?
Corky Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 How do you punish a player who hardly ever gets a game? Let him spend a week with Jon Barber
Thracian Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 Let him spend a week with Jon Barber That's harsh!
Manwell Pablo Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 I wish Alan Sheehan would disappear. Under the wheels of 18 Wheeler preferable. Glad to hear Levi has returned.
Hullfox Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 I still don't think our team is at its strongest nor playing at its best by a long way and I'm not the only one to have said that. And whatever the results, I fail to see how Dickov's form on the right vindicates his selection at all. He was simply going to get picked whatever. I'm not sure how many times it needs saying but here goes.......... Look at the result - The selection was vindicated. I care not if Rab Douglas plays at Centre Half and davieG is at left back - We won 4-0. We scored four, they scored nil. We got three points, they got none. The selection was vindicated.
davieG Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 I'm not sure how many times it needs saying but here goes..........Look at the result - The selection was vindicated. WTF I'm a bloody good left back, naturally left footed but with a decent right foot as well, pacey and can deliver a good cross - ageism is alive and well, not sure about me though

FilboFox Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 So he's turned up then... relationship problems? drinking? gambling?

Dickov wasn't even on the field for the last two goals and I saw nothing while he was on to vindicate his selection.
Anish Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 Dickov wasn't even on the field for the last two goals and I saw nothing while he was on to vindicate his selection. They were still 2-0 up by the time Dickov left. Face it, you're never content. We can win 5-0 every game but you'll still find something to moan about. If it's not King then it's Gradel. If it's not Gradel then it's Porter. You are always championing one youngster or another - we could have King, Porter, Gradel, O'Neill, Mattock all in the side but that still won't keep you quiet. It's boring.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 Dickov wasn't even on the field for the last two goals and I saw nothing while he was on to vindicate his selection. Porter is not good enough - his size doesn't help - but he is not good enough. But if he is - even he should recognise that after an injury he would need to impresses in either pre-season, training or the reserves games. Not turning up for training isn't going to help! And it's quite apparent young Levi hasn't done enough. One thing Dickov does give you - commitment and experience - Levi does not offer better in that sense, and just doesn't play to the level of gradel - and with only 4 outfield players being named on the bench, it sometimes doesn't leave room for a winger - which in any case would proberly be Adams anyway.
Flynny Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 Why would we play Porter in central midfield at the minute anyway? Who would we drop? This thread is ridiculous.
Hullfox Posted 4 September 2008 Posted 4 September 2008 He's never recognised talent! Maybe so but I can spot bullshit from miles away. Dickov wasn't even on the field for the last two goals and I saw nothing while he was on to vindicate his selection. They were still 2-0 up by the time Dickov left. Thrach for fooks sake. We won 4-0. Some players played better than others but we won 4-0. As we won 4-0 our best winning margin away from home since Derby in the Premiership, in my book the selection was vindicated. Anytime a side wins 4-0 (getting my drift yet?), the team selection has to be vindicated. Dickov may not have been the best player on the pitch but he played a part in a 4-0 (yes, 4-0) victory. Nigel Person has just been awarded the Manager of the Month Award for August. That would indicate that the panel making the decision would have looked at all of our results including the 4-0 victory at Cheltenham and thought that Pearson's team selections were vindicated. You think whatever you want now because your inability to accept the blindingly obvious is verging on immature. Next time we lose 4-0 feel free to claim your right to make the next team selection but right now allow the many fans who are enjoying the turn in our fortunes to enjoy it. Pearson picks the team and whilst we are sat where we are not even the most blinkered of correspondents should consider that somehow because one of his favourites is not featuring week in week out that it's all wrong. You constantly mocked previous managers for having their chosen men but in truth you are no better. Good night everyone.

You'd only spot bullshit if it was in front of you because with those blinkers it's you who never accepts the truth. Dickov went off at 2-0 and didn't play well. That has nothing to do with Pearson's winning of the manager of the month award for his eforts in steering us to the top of the League. I have acknowledged, enjoyed and praised that endlessly as you are quite well aware. A bloke can design and build Concorde but he's still likely still make mistakes on the way. And throughout this entire debate I've still not read one single argument for playing Dickov out wide, never mind a credible one.
