Levi Porter

Porter is comig back from a long injury lay off but I agree that when he has a chance (a run of games) he will make a difference and eventually will be integral to the team. He has already shown this with his brief appearances so far. All this is excellent news for the club.

I really don't understand what Thracian is trying to say. What IS your point Thracian? The following seems obvious to me:

1. Porter won't get a chance in centre midfield while Oakley and King are fit. If they get injured we are likely to use Wesolowski who impressed against Hartlepool. Clemence will also return from injury at some point.

2. Dyer, Gradel and Adams are all better options on the wings. Dickov isn't a winger and it's surprising to see him playing there although I trust Pearson and so far the decision hasn't cost us. Porter may get a chance if we have injuries or are resting players.

The bottom line is that Porter obviously isn't showing enough in training to warrant a first team place. Pearson is probably the first manager I trust with team selection and if he thinks Porter isn't a first team starter then he isn't. Thracian - you don't see the team every day in training, you aren't a football manager, you don't know the players like Pearson does. You do realise that your constant, repititive and immature arguing actually causes resentment towards players. It happened with Sheehan and it'll happen with Porter.

As I said I really don't see what point you're trying to make. From what I can make out all you've said is Dickov isn't a winger and Porter should be sold if he isn't going to get a chance. Great. We knew that already. What value are you therefore adding to this? None.

You'd only spot bullshit if it was in front of you

You may well be right there.

At Cheltenham it was sat two rows in front of me in Row A - How was your seat?.

Maybe levi isnt playing because he is not good enough???, from what i have seen off him this season he is not the levi porter he was maybe that will come back with time but do people seriously want to see gradel or dyer out the team at his expense??

a) I don't believe Wesolowski is anything like the attacking central midfielder that Porter is. He can attack but nothing I've seen of him over four years suggests he does attack that often or with great effect other than occasionally and his record of stayability over the winter months has long been a concern.

I'd have said the same about Oakley as an attacker based on last season's performances but he's formed a good partnership with King and fully justified his selection so far.

b) Porter showed plenty pre-season - more than Adams from what I saw - and well warranted a place on the bench but for whatever reason he's been sidelined. I cannot believe that reason is because he's suddenly lost the ability to play football in training sessions and have no idea why you'd even suggest it.

c) Why should anyone resent a player based on my comments? How immature is that?

Some people on here would never have played any of our young players, citing one pretext or another, whether I'd commented on them or not. Too inexperienced, too risky, too small ... the reasons have been endless. Even Gradel had little support until he won Pearson's approval at the start of the season and we had to put up with Newton and a succession of other misfits instead.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Putting words in my mouth Thracian. Not good for conducive and constructive debate. To be perfectly honest, and it's a shame because we've seen countless threads go the same way, but this may as well get closed. It's just more silliness that does the forum no favours whatsoever.

Have I somehow misinterpreted these words:- "The bottom line is that Porter obviously isn't showing enough in training to warrant a first team place."

I wouldn't have used it but for a guy behind me bleating about sitting down.

"Isn't showing enough in training to warrant a first team place" is NOTHING like saying "suddenly lost the ability to play football in training sessions".

If you can't see that then I'm concerned for you. Seriously. You believe what you want to believe, you read what you want to read, I've said what I want to say and have no intention of carrying it on.

Me neither. I really cannot understand what you're getting at or on what basis unless you're suggesting he's been having a sulk prior to his walkabout.

I imagine he thinks that too! He must feel great. Chelsea must seem a lifetime ago.

When Porter played against Tranmere,

He was shit.

Simple as. Therefore, he doesn't get in the team.

Quite frankly, I don't think he's good enough.

Got to agree with you.

However, I don't think your comments will be universally agreed with :rolleyes:

He played well enough against Chelsea!

Most people who'd been injured for the best part of a year since would have got some slack - especially as he looked just as good as Dickov anyway - but it's par for the course unless you're a fans favourite like Fryatt, Oakley or Mattock.

Bloody hell, how many indifferent games did those three play before Pearson came along?

I've never seen anyone live off one game so much!!!!

And Stearman was brilliant in midfield against Aston Villa. Doesn't mean I'd take him back to play alongside Oakley though!

It's also par for the course if Porter is your favourite.

One game? What a short memory youy have.

In his only full season Porter topped the table of assists with 7, was joint fourth top scorer with three and had 30 shots in his 30 starts.

And all that in a lousy side playing ultra defensive football.

How many goals/assists did Fryatt get last season for instance? Or any of our wingers? Or Oakley?

If Pearson can improve Porter as much as he seems to improved Fryatt/Oakley then, far from being left on the sidelines, he should have an outstanding contribution to make..

All this stuff is causing people to have resentment towards Porter. Just like it happened to Alan Sheehan.

People really want him to do well here, but all this glorifying of players needs to be stopped, especially when they don't even deserve it. Porter will get his chance, and then it's up to him to take it.

Just in case Thracian misses this first time round, here it is again in nice, large type.

Do you not remember how awful he was against Forest just before that, though? Especially in the first, called off game, he was terrible.

He's a good little player with potential but you need to play close heed to that large type above, it's very, very true.
