sdb Posted 9 September 2008 Posted 9 September 2008 Indeed. Why people keep relating to him as a centre-forward I don't know. In club football he's scored roughly once every four games. He takes an enormous a lot of weight off people's shoulders and is often involved in the moves that lead to goals but he 's not showed signs of being a prodigious striker even in his early days:-1994–2000 Leicester City 154 (39) 2000–2004 Liverpool 150 (39) 2004–2006 Birmingham 68 (14) that's like saying a good keeper who doesn't keep that many clean sheets should play in midfield. Heskey scored 20+ in his 1st full season at Liverpool. He was played as an actual striker. Bruce, Jewell, Eriksson and Houllier later on all played him as a target man, sometimes even a left winger. As a support striker he is incredibly useful. Owen wouldn't have scored anywhere near as many. Look at Zaki this season. And look at Wigan's win rate with and without Heskey last season. He might not score loads of goals but that doesn't mean shift him into defence!!
Soar Fox Posted 9 September 2008 Posted 9 September 2008 Didn't Michael Owen say that he prefers playing with Emile more than any other striker?
sdb Posted 9 September 2008 Posted 9 September 2008 Didn't Michael Owen say that he prefers playing with Emile more than any other striker? we'll play Owen at left back then
lildave3 Posted 9 September 2008 Posted 9 September 2008 Didn't Michael Owen say that he prefers playing with Emile more than any other striker? Yes. Cottee loved him too.
Foxhateram Posted 9 September 2008 Posted 9 September 2008 hahahahahaha lol lol *takes deep breath" hahaha lol
orod Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 its definately bolloxs hes rated by nearly all prem managers. The only chance we have of getting him back is if in 2 or 3 seasons we are newly promoted to the prem and hes not quite as good as he is then. Then we could get him. Seems like a pipe dream at the minute though.
NorthernFox Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 Had a very good game for England tonight.
Corky Posted 10 September 2008 Posted 10 September 2008 Had a very good game for England tonight. Yep
Ultra Posted 11 September 2008 Posted 11 September 2008 Their sugar daddy owner obviously made him a decent offer...

He's a criminally under rated premiership class player and showed that again last night. 2/3 years along the line when he's getting on a bit in footballing terms, if we did get to the prem or are aiming to push towards it realistically, we would possibly have as good a chance as any of signing him. Until then we can forget it. EDIT: As an aside i genuinely believe that Thracian has no clue about footballing positions. For the record - Emile Heskey is a Striker. Levi Porter is a Left Winger. However much you bitch and moan and attempt to show otherwise, these are what we in the real world and those in the scientific community call FACTS. Please bury the matter now.

GO SMUTS, GO SMUTS, GO SMUTS, GIVE US AN S, GIVE US AN M, GIVE US A U, GIVE US A T, GIVE US AN S. ITS SMMMUUUUUUUUTTTTSSS!!!!!!!!!!! Heskey will not come back here for atleast another couple of years. I would love to see him back here. However he is still premiership and international qaulity, he played a stormer for england last night (as he always does) and not only that he sets up so many goals for Wigan. Heskey deserves to be in the prem, and will stay there for atleast another few years.
Jaspa Posted 11 September 2008 Posted 11 September 2008 , why does everyone hate Thracian anyway, everytime i have a glance on a section theres always some one ripping into him
Candidcamera Posted 11 September 2008 Posted 11 September 2008 I think that Heskey would join City for love of the club not money so he may return sooner rather than later.
AoWW Posted 11 September 2008 Posted 11 September 2008 GO SMUTS, GO SMUTS, GO SMUTS, GIVE US AN S, GIVE US AN M, GIVE US A U, GIVE US A T, GIVE US AN S. ITS SMMMUUUUUUUUTTTTSSS!!!!!!!!!!! Calm down, love - before I feel the need to buy you some pompoms.
Corky Posted 12 September 2008 Posted 12 September 2008 , why does everyone hate Thracian anyway, everytime i have a glance on a section theres always some one ripping into him We don't hate him, he's just goes on and on about Levi not playing when Dyer is clearly better and us not attacking for the whole 90 minutes. It gets a bit tiresome, and when you have a disagreement he covers all bases.
Jimmy Posted 14 September 2008 Posted 14 September 2008 today's NOTW says Villa and Liverpool want Heskey in a cut price £3M deal
Tilley Posted 14 September 2008 Posted 14 September 2008 today's NOTW says Villa and Liverpool want Heskey in a cut price £3M deal Was just about to post that
syston_fox Posted 14 September 2008 Posted 14 September 2008 Why the hell would Liverpool want him back with the strikers they have at their disposal? More lazy journalism!
Jimmy Posted 14 September 2008 Posted 14 September 2008 Why the hell would Liverpool want him back with the strikers they have at their disposal? More lazy journalism! because they don't have anyone of his type do they and they don't have that many strikers, Torres, Keane, N'Gog who is totally unproven and Kuyt who plays mainly as a winger so that's is basically 3 strikers and Kuyt
Thracian Posted 14 September 2008 Posted 14 September 2008 I agree, there's zero chance of him coming anywhere near us besides being in the stands until we get to the Prem. However much you bitch and moan and attempt to show otherwise, these are what we in the real world and those in the scientific community call FACTS. Please bury the matter now. :D If you want to see everything so simplistically then there's no point in me trying to stop you. Have you ever seen Porter play elsewhere but on the left wing, as I have? We were crying out for Porter's ability to play a telling pass yesterday. Our central midfield were inclined to pass everything sideways yesterday yet we needed to use Campbell and have the ball pushed between their defenders on occasions, something Porter can do as well as anyone. We might also have benefitted from his excellent close control which was almost totally missing in our team yesterday. As for Heskey he's never been what I would call an out and out striker. More an outstanding support player to the strikers. He just doesn't score enough goals for a specialist striker. Heskey is one of those footballers you can put almost anywhere and he'll be useful. But watch him defend a corner and you will know why I believe he'd make an excellent centre-back. Fast, strong defenders are priceless.
Thracian Posted 14 September 2008 Posted 14 September 2008 We don't hate him, he's just goes on and on about Levi not playing when Dyer is clearly better and us not attacking for the whole 90 minutes. It gets a bit tiresome, and when you have a disagreement he covers all bases. Dyer and Porter are so different as players it is hardly worth comparing them. But I'm already beginning to understand why Dyer is here with us in Division One. He's a positive footballer with a good eye for goal but nothing I've seen so far suggests he's combative. If I were the opposition coach I'd put someone strong, fast and nasty up against him and make sure he got a good, but fair, clattering. Porter is a passer who can shoot. He doesn't really need to be restricted to the wing. He's best as an old fashioned inside forward. There's no reason not to play both either separately or together. Dyer didn't look better than anyone yesterday, at least no-one who completed the 90 minutes.
syston_fox Posted 14 September 2008 Posted 14 September 2008 because they don't have anyone of his type do they and they don't have that many strikers, Torres, Keane, N'Gog who is totally unproven and Kuyt who plays mainly as a winger so that's is basically 3 strikers and Kuyt So four available strikers then! He won't go back there.
