Halifax - Next Bank To Go?

I wonder what all of this financial termoil will bring to football.

People have less disposable income -> people cutting back on 'luxury' items such as football tickets -> less money for clubs -> less money for players and wages etc etc etc

The football supporter the English Leagues want and have now compared to 20 years ago are more likely to cut back on football purchases when money gets tight.

What do you reckon?

It's hard to say, there still seems to be an awful lot of money swirling about Newcastle look to have found a buyer and in a non football environment £70mill was stumped up to purchase Damian Hirst 'art'

Sugar Daddys aside, football could really be in the brown and smelly.

Well it already is if they were prepared to admit it with most big clubs carrying massive debts that make the debts of the clubs going into admin look like pocket money.

Maybe not in the premier leagueas it attracts alot of corporates etc, but lower leagues may find alittle tough, especially at the food kiosk and concourses!!

Man United are showing the way forward as far as football goes. They are now effectively owned by the US Government. Safe as houses. Ahem.

EDIT: on reflection this is an exaggeration. The link between AIG and Manchester United (aside fromm shirt sponsorship) isn't particularly clear.

Let's just hope Topps Tiles goes bust so we longer have them as our shirt sponsor.

I was talking to a mate yesterday, wondering if it wouldn't be more beneficial if we adopted a Sharia-compliant financial structure in this country, which obviously rules out interest charges, insurance, forward forex trading etc. Obviously, this won't go down well with a lot of people, but it's just something I thought about. I picked up a copy of the The Times and lo and behold, there's an article about it in the finance section.

I have a very limited knowledge regarding financial matters and whatnot, but I guess this whole financial turmoil we are seeing wouldn't have happened if we had Islamic financial laws in place.

Your money is safe. Withdrawing it exacerbates the problem.

Down to TV dosh. If people start cutting back on Sky Sports Subscriptions I would imagine this would be the biggest blow.

I've got two savings accounts with Yorkshire, I hope they don't go bust. They are not really a big player but it seems nothing is safe/predictable at this point in time. I think the best thing to do is perhaps spread your savings over a few diffferent banks...probably

Because I had an E-Mail, from Halifax, explaining not to withdraw my money, as they are currently in talks etc etc.

& I don't want the bank to collapse.

As every penny to my name is with this bank.

If you get an unprompted email telling you NOT to withdraw your money then withdraw your damn money mate!

Why? If he has under 35k his money is safe as it's guaranteed by the government!! Everyone withdrawing will do nothing but send them under.

Is there a savings threshold then? I take it you are talking about personal savings such as instant access savings, ISA's etc. I've got some savings with Yorkshire, but no-where near £35k.

......and cost you if you're a tax payer.

If I'm honest I don't know squat about this government guarantee!!!

But if I had 50 grand or so in a bank that has just sent me an umprompted email essentially begging me not to take my money out then they are in more trouble than I'll ever know, & my hard earned money is going straight under my mattress!!!

Single mums need not bother looking at the above link, it's about savings..

Sweet so if I have one hundred grand & I split it between three seperate banks, its all covered then? (allbeit at the expense of the taxpayer)

Unless they end up being the same bank... that is to say some financial institutions now have a number of trading styles, due to mergers/acquisitions etc.

Good luck.

ps if you have £100,000 - could you lend me £724?
