Bert Posted 12 October 2008 Posted 12 October 2008 Rangers striker Kris Boyd has told BBC Scotland he will not play for Scotland again under manager George Burley.Boyd said he left a message with the Scotland boss on Saturday night after Burley told Radio Scotland the forward must prove himself with his club. "I left a message on George Burley's phone last night and he hadn't got back to me," said Boyd. "I will not be playing for George Burley again, but I hope to be back in a Scotland jersey again one day." Boyd spent the entire 90 minutes of Saturday's match against Norway on the bench and contacted Burley after the 0-0 draw when he heard the Scotland manager's comments on BBC Radio Scotland's Sportsound programme. In his post-match interview with BBC Scotland's Chick Young, Burley defended his decision to replace Birmingham City striker James McFadden with Wolves' Chris Iwelumo during the match. "Kris has got to establish himself in the Rangers team, which he hasn't done," said Burley. "Chris (Iwelumo) came on because he's been playing regularly and has scored eight goals in six games for Wolves. I will not be playing for George Burley again, but I hope to be back in a Scotland jersey again one day "You're always looking for players to prove themselves, and Boyd is not any different from anyone else in the squad." Boyd also told BBC Scotland that he decided to contact the chief executive of the Scottish Football Association, Gordon Smith, to inform him of his decision to step down from international football under Burley after leaving the message for the Scotland manager. Boyd added: "I didn't think just leaving a message was very professional, so I spoke with Gordon Smith and informed him of my decision." Rangers midfielder Lee McCulloch also retired from international football last month, but the SFA insisted at the time that his decision was not fuelled by a rift between McCulloch and the national manage
Finnegan Posted 12 October 2008 Posted 12 October 2008 Aye, what a total, utter cock. How out of touch with reality can you be?
Head Honcho Posted 12 October 2008 Posted 12 October 2008 He seems to be upsetting a lot of players does Burley. Pretty lame stuff from Boyd and McCulloch though! I'm off to Amsterdam in March to watch the Dutch game I'd be surprised if Burley was still manager.
Head Honcho Posted 12 October 2008 Posted 12 October 2008 Boyd's just a poor man's Iwelumo. ..............................although I find it highly unlikely that Boyd would've missed that three yard sitter
Tevez Posted 12 October 2008 Posted 12 October 2008 Boyd's just a poor man's Iwelumo. Don't speak utter shit. How Boyd wasn't in the starting XI is beyond me. Burley is a coont and how Iwelumo has a right to be in the Scotland team is beyond me. Form is Temporary Class is Permanent in Iwelumo's Case. Top scorer for Wolves and the Championship? We'll see come may. But Burley and that horror miss may have buggared up Scotlands chance for South Africa. Livid.
Finnegan Posted 12 October 2008 Posted 12 October 2008 Aye but what people seem to be overlooking with Iwelumo is that he offers something that Scotland otherwise don't have. Kris Boyd, Stevie Fletcher and Kenny Miller may all be able to head a ball but they're not really typically Big Men per se. I don't rate Iwelumo but I do feel his selection was somewhat justified by the presence he had when he came on. He might have missed a howler but he was a notable improvement - what you really want to ask is why Burley thought it was a good idea to start with McFadden alone up top.
davieG Posted 12 October 2008 Posted 12 October 2008 I don't know the rights or wrongs re Scotland's team but I do know I've seen plenty of 'world class' forwards miss simple chances like that.

Mcfadden as a lone striker was never going to work.

lildave3 Posted 12 October 2008 Posted 12 October 2008 I give you Lil Dave. There was 3 men blocking my path! (Yes, I have even more excuses )
The People's Hero Posted 12 October 2008 Posted 12 October 2008 The sun was in your eyes too, wasn't it Ben?
lildave3 Posted 12 October 2008 Posted 12 October 2008 The sun was in your eyes too, wasn't it Ben? It was actually, I just preferred to keep it on the downlow, don't want people thinking i'm full of excuses.
Jimmy Posted 12 October 2008 Posted 12 October 2008 Burley falls out with key players everywhere he goes
Simi Posted 12 October 2008 Posted 12 October 2008 Doesn't deserve to be picked for them under any manager now.
Lovejoy Posted 12 October 2008 Posted 12 October 2008 ..............................although I find it highly unlikely that Boyd would've missed that three yard sitter It was a horrific miss, but it could have happened to anyone .
Corky Posted 12 October 2008 Posted 12 October 2008 I can't stand players who retire from international football. It's a priviledge to play for your country, not something you can decide when it suits you.

What some people would give to play for their countries and if given the chance they would run themselves into the ground and not stop trying from start to finish. And then you have these players that think they are bigger and better than that getting paid silly amounts of money and don't give a fook.

I can see that Burley wanted in-form players playing, Iwelumo is that and Boyd was/is not. Doesn't deserve to be picked for them under any manager now. Yup.
