surrifox Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 I'm not sure this "I've paid my money and can do what I want " line really stands up to scrutiny. You would pay your money to go to a cinema but if you started making a nuisance of yourself you would rightly be told to shut up or get out - booing your own team's players I just don't get it.

You're working on the basis that football & being a fan can be compared to everyday life & activities. Surely you're aware by now that being a football fan allows you to behave like a moron safe in the knowledge you can blame it on the 'passion' & 'love' for the club & exempts you from all known standard social practices?

I think it gives certain individuals a sense of self empowerment. Some people love to do certain things just because they've been told not to, and that's more important to them than any suggestion that it might undermine the team
EnigmaticFox Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 Note to Milan!Shut the **** up! Loyal fans waste their money on this man who has led us to relegation with his ill tempered attitude towards his managers which he appoints, and now tells the boo boys to put up or piss off when we can't beat the poor sides in this division. The man is a fool! He should look to himself instead of critisizing those who financially back him in Divison 3, they are his only means of financial support so shut the hell you div. I fully agree with you Kilworth? The supports fork out vast amounts of money to watch the team, and in these hard financial times, it is money many people can ill afford to throw away! Week after week, in following the team we love, we fork out for entrance fees, travel, as well as countless other items, that make up match day expenses. Surely it is our right to express our frustrations, as and how we wish, as long as it doesn't get out of hand? Deep down, we all love city, from the bottom of our hearts, and would never wish ill on any of them as individuals, but, we are talking here, of isolated incidents, not the overall team performance. Last Saturday, it was the sheer incompetence of the wasted opportunities. Fryatt's glaring miss, where he only had the keeper to beat, was the prime example! Sure, not every chance is going to end up, in the back of the net, one of two missed chances can be just put down to bad luck, but, over the past couple of games, there have been countless similar opportunities, like this, that have gone begging! And this is just not acceptable. Mandaric expresses his dissatisfaction of his team by sacking a manager, when he is dissatisfied with the level of performance! A little booing, is, I would suggest a very mild form of disapproval, of the situation, as it developed. A few fans boo, then get on with cheering the team at the next opportunity. What is the problem! The fans don't send hate mail, or stalk the team. it is just healthy feedback! Does Mandaric just want us to be automatons? Just mindless robots. If that is what you desire Mr Mandaric, I suggest, you find a team to buy, in China! You will be welcomed with open arms. I suggest that Mandaric is just too sensitive. Does he never bawl out one of his employees, if the person has messed up? Mr Mandarin, this isn't the first time, during your tenure in charge of City, that you have condemned a section of fans. You hail from Serbia, a country well known for its lack of tolerance. You have a different mentality and approach to situations. You must understand though, that making such knee jerk statements in the press, every time a sections of supporters defy you, is no way to behave in a democratic country! (I'm going to send a copy of this, to the Mercury too. maybe mandaric could respond to my points)?
Maybes Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 Mandaric is upset with the lack of 'Milan is a leicester fan', 'Milan, Milan Mandaric' and 'Milan give us a wave' chants coming from the stands
James. Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 The fans who boo are f**king morons, Milan is right and I have no problem with him saying so.

Mandaric may be sensitive, but no more sensitive than supporters who criticise and boo then get annoyed when they are criticised. To me it seems that some fans think it's perfectly fine to slag off the players (Howard in particular), yet it's not fine for them to be slagged off in return. Mandaric owns this club, he has a right to his opinion, just like every supporter.
Mark Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 We've not won since Mandaric broke his silence. FACT.

The difference is, I, and most fans, understand this. I don't think he does though? That is the point I was trying to get across. Sorry, I don't want to start a war here! All the best from a cold Lincolnshire.

Guest Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 I would like to ask what effect booing the team and the players has actually had? Did they suddenly pick up their game? Did they take the game by the scruff of the neck, and start to make a difference? Or did they just resort to hoofing the ball on the off-chance Fatty Fyrups blistering pace broke the offside trap?

The big difference is he has the Mercury in which to express it and to make sure it is heard where as the lone voice of the fan is not heard - maybe that's why they believe in a collective boo!

I think, against Bristol Rovers on Saturday, those that do want to boo should do so at random intervals, like every 10 minutes, to see what effect it has on the team. Then we'll see if booing really does help.
Ric Flair Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 Whether booing is right or wrong, I generally hate it. The reason being because it means our team is supposedly under-achieving. What irks me the most this season is that we have a proportion of fans who aren't that knowledgable and think that we'll piss this league so any game we don't win will be met with boo's and hisses. It was summed up for me last Tuesday when a fan who had spent all game abusing us, asked his mate dumbfounded towards the end ' Where the fook is Clemence '. I was gonna turn round and drop the coont. Now I don't for one minute think he thought he was playing, surely he couldn't be that much of a simpleton but it was the fact that this chap who was visibily so angry with 'his' Leicester had absolutely no idea about the situation with Clemence. It's been broadcasted he's injured and there's no date for when he's back, it's been in the Mercury, on the website, team news will state Stephen Clemence (ankle) every bastard game. But obviously this passionate fan and general hero, doesn't have access to any of this information as he's too busy talking to his cloth head of a mate all the while about Muzzy and Walsh. Multiply that neanderthal by about 2500+ and you've got a collection of fans that will irritate procedures at a venue that's already proven difficult for our team to get results for whatever reason.
EnigmaticFox Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 Which area of lincolnshire are you from as I currently reside in Lincolnshire? Near grantham? Hi Lavrentis I'm in a tiny village just north of Boston, 17 miles in land from Skegness! In the lovely Lincolnsahire Wolds. Grantham! umm. Not my favorite Lincs town, but, there you go.
Chrysalis Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 Our home form has been consistently below par over 3+ seasons under numerous managers, fans are something that are a consistent factor so I agree with MM, if they get behind the team more then things will be better.

In my part of L1 the people that boo are generally those that you'd expect to be more likely than most to be bundled into a police van. They're usually the same ones that emerge from the concourse glaring at the away supporters in the same way that you might glare at someone that had murdered your gran. They won't applaud a good pass or flick on, but they'll scream blue murder as soon as one doesn't come off. They just come to the football for the hatred
maddog Posted 28 October 2008 Posted 28 October 2008 The game was awful Saturday though, the players didn't seem to want to win like in other games. It was made worse by the fact Northampton were poor, we should have beaten them, but in the end they could have won. £23 a ticket for NSTH for that shit, they can boo all they like, and so can the STH. We were awful Saturday.

davieG Posted 28 October 2008 Author Posted 28 October 2008 Las season in the Kop the biggest/loudest booers where those that had not 5 minutes before berated and threatened violence on those that were refusing to stand up. I think a lot of the booing is almost done under the breath with no real venom/spirit pretty much like a lot of the cheering.
