Tilley Posted 20 November 2008 Posted 20 November 2008 Great win, great performance. Germany couldn't get the ball first half. Agbonlahor & Carrick certainly staked a claim for the next squad, as did Bridge.
RowlattsFox Posted 20 November 2008 Posted 20 November 2008 Does anyone think there are similarities between Bridge and Mattock? Obviously I'm not saying Mattock is as good as Bridge yet but I reckon they have similar styles and similar strengths and weaknesses.
TrickyTrev Posted 20 November 2008 Posted 20 November 2008 On many occasions last night the players had the opportunity to toss the ball into the box, but didn't see anything on so recycled the play and went back through the midfield. It was a sign that maybe, just maybe, Capello has managed to install some composure into the England squad at last. I like the way he bollocks the layers if they make a stupid decision but applauds the idea if it is the execution that has gone wrong. Its the only way to foster the requisite confidence if you want your players to play good football. Big tournaments are a bit of a lottery, you're more than likely to have to win at least one penalty shoot out, and we are short upfront and in goal, but I now atleast think we will go in with a chance. That we will perform to the best of our ability and we will be proud of our players and the display of English football that they produce. 'bout time too!
JakeShingler Posted 20 November 2008 Posted 20 November 2008 Not watched the game yet, will watch it later. But by the sounds of the scorers, i'm guessing 2 more goals from set pieces? Corner and Free kick.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 20 November 2008 Posted 20 November 2008 Very good performances from Carrick and Agbonlahor. Imo, Terry was at fault for the goal as well, though I don't rate Carson as an international 'keeper.
Floating Fox Posted 20 November 2008 Posted 20 November 2008 Germany were so poor. Reserve side to be fair.
Sparky Posted 20 November 2008 Posted 20 November 2008 Reserve side to be fair. ok ill be fair James and Terry only starters that would consider themselves nailed on regulars for us . Shame we conceded because the Germans were never at the races
Floating Fox Posted 20 November 2008 Posted 20 November 2008 Same with England. True. Germany were poor. Can't really comment as I was down the pub trying to hide my German shirt all game, don't really get a good perspective of the game. Germany had a couple of debutants, including one I'd never heard of though. Still say the National team is supported by Morons though. "Oh Terry is shit, he should have ****ing put that into touch"...5 mins later..."I ****ing love you John Terry"

The example you use is no different to how "some " Leicester fans react to certain players

Bit of a gerneralisation
purpleronnie Posted 20 November 2008 Posted 20 November 2008 Guess the lampard + gerrard debate will carry on now that carrick and Barry played so well together.
C-man Posted 20 November 2008 Posted 20 November 2008 CARSON IS SHITE! I thought it was definitely John Terry's fault, but I still haven't forgiven Carson for last November. Never thought I'd be saying this, but Downing has been superb tonight. Hmm, I thought he was poor other than his two assists. Max Gradel this season anyone? His crossing is woeful and gives the ball away far too much. Still, I'm delighted with the win, feeling good about Capello! Very confident we can get to South Africa!

Bert Posted 21 November 2008 Posted 21 November 2008 1) he should have 2) He scored a last minute winner 1-0 He didn't. He didn't. It was 2-1.

Exactly what I thought... don't know why everyone was going on about him being so damn good... he was pretty average really. Sometimes he did some very good passes or crosses but most of them were pretty rubbish. Crossing was poor and like you said, he gave the ball away needlessly... the one thing I was impressed with was his ability to get back and defend too... he made some damn good tackles to stop the German right flank getting crosses in.
CosbehFox Posted 21 November 2008 Posted 21 November 2008 Didn't 7 of Germany's starting line-up start in their last qualifier? Ya, it's tru.e http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/i...als/7665093.stm Hardly reserves in retrospective.
Leicester Rule! Posted 21 November 2008 Posted 21 November 2008 Got back this morning from there. Was a good game (made better due to the fact we won) and an awesome stadium. Good atmopshere made by the English fans too. Overall, a good few days in the German capital.

Missing their first choice keeper (Although I rate Adler) as well as: Lahm (easy First choice) Jansen (Played in Euros) Metzelder (East First choice) Friedrich (Played in Euros) Ballack (Obvious) Frings (Obvious) Borowski (Could be first team. Bit similar to Barry) Schnieder (81 Apperances) Don't know how many were because of injury, some could just be because of poor managing...I have no idea. How daft did Trochowski look next to Mertesacker?
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 21 November 2008 Posted 21 November 2008 Think that above all, the result shows how much the English football team will have to offer in a few years. These players can only get better.

Floating Fox Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 Friedrich played and Metzelder has internationally retired. Sorry for being a smart-arse. Didn't know about Metzelder He's still on Fifa so I assumed... And theres two Friedrich's
CosbehFox Posted 26 November 2008 Posted 26 November 2008 I had never heard of the other until now. Shall be watching this Friday however. Hertha-Koln.
