Jay Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 Over £70million spent in transfer fees alone probably the same again in wages 18th in the Table demolished by Bolton at home heading for the premier league exit lost his bottle Keane has been constantly bummed since day one by tv presenters and journos worshiping Keane as a great manager but a great manager earns his money, respect and shows his worth when times are tough NOT when you are doing well and now he is talking of walking away. He has spent and absolute fortune at Sunderland and wasted millions on some very very average players and imo proved himself so far to be a very average manager.
Ultra Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 I have to agree. Keane has often paid over the odds for some very mediocre players - Anton Ferdinand, Craig Gordon and the job lot from Spurs spring to mind. The constant turnover of players suggests that he has lost the plot and this is destabilising the side still further. I wouldn't want to see Sunderland relegated, because they could be VERY tough rivals for us in the Championship next year. But that's the way things are heading, even if the pro-Keane brigade who swamped 606 last night don't agree.

Agreed, I like the way he was announced a a big coup, even though he had never managed before? WTF! P.S Nice title
Daggers Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 I wouldn't want to see Sunderland relegated, because they could be VERY tough rivals for us in the Championship next year. You seriously expect our current squad to be challenging at the top end of the Championship next season?
sdb Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 a better example of an overrated manager! i expect he's spent more per season on average than Wenger - despite being in the championship for a season and obviously no where near the top of the prem. that said, i think he's still a good manager and will go on to win things one day. again this is being brought up because of current under-performing (how bad were the back 4 yesterday?!!).
Simi Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 His interview summed him up completely yesterday. Lost that spark and desire that made him a great player and at the start of his career, a good manager. He seemed a defeated man yesterday who is getting close to losing the dressing room.
Tevez Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 It looks like he can take care of the business himself but I think he needs a Director of Football on board to give him some guidance.
Shrenchel Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 He's not thought of a great though is he. He got promotion to the prem and a load of pundits bust their load and started talking about next manager of Man U etc etc but I doubt you'll find a single person who still thinks that.
Zingari Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 i'd sooner have RK than any manager we've had since MON
Joe. Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 His work in the transfer market is nothing short of hilarious. Likes to pay riduculous fees for mediocre players.
Jack Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 I agree that he does pay silly fee's for mediocre players but I thinnk one of the only things that is keeping him in his job at the minute is that his contact with manchester united.
Ultra Posted 30 November 2008 Posted 30 November 2008 Who the hell rates Keane as great? Last season, at least one tabloid hack rated Keane as one of the managers of the season. Even though he spent a shedload of money, finished just THREE points clear of the drop zone, and had no cup runs to speak of.

Perhaps, although I think it's more to do with his relationship with Quinn. Will take a lot to make Quinn sack Keane I reckon.

Durnerz Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 I think hes lost the values he had as a player whereby he didn't care what people thought of him and wouldnt think twice about the consequences of his actions (Haaland, D'urso etc) but now he seems a soft manager whos trying to become too much like the others around him, one minute he will try and have the strictness of Fergie, when that doesnt work he'll try and crack a smile and a joke, speaks out too much on issues not concerning his club to try and get attention. He looks like a defeated man now and his transfer dealings have brought him down.
CosbehFox Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 He bought success to get them out of the Championship. A poor manager whose simply made every mistake in the management prinicples book. Ie. changing your back four more than your pants.
Koke Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 Whitehead and that other lad they have at the back are just cack. K I just hope Keane comes for Joe Mattock so we can rip him off.
Corky Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 He did fantastically well to get Sunderland up in 2007, from the position they were when he took over, but for the money he's spent, last season and so far this campaign he has flattered to deceive. Big time. Avoiding relegation by three points and struggling again this time around, with the cash he's blown I'd expect a lot better from his team.
Lovejoy Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 The guy is clueless when it comes to valuing players.
act smiley Posted 2 December 2008 Posted 2 December 2008 He did fantastically well to get Sunderland up in 2007, from the position they were when he took over uh, not really? He might have had quite a bit to do, but it was very early in the season - a good job no doubt, but a large part of the shine of it is simply that Quinn was that bad as a caretaker.
