Lovejoy Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 Not surprised tbh. His transfer dealings were very suspect .
Jon the Hat Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 Not surprised tbh. His transfer dealings were very suspect . Not to mention the fact that he is basically insane.
JakeShingler Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 We shoulld make an offer for Fulop in January.
dandannieldanok Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 I'd be feeling pretty shit if I was a Sunderland fan now; basically the going has got too tough for him so he's buggered off and left them in turmoil with a squad of mediocre players lacking confidence. Well done Roy for sticking it out.

Well done Roy for sticking it out. The guy has always had an air that he was too big for the club, and they were merely a stepping stone in his path to the Old Trafford job. Cocked this one up a bit .
RowlattsFox Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 Bottled it. Will still probably get a decent job next though.
JakeShingler Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 Bottled it.Will still probably get a decent job next though. I think he will get the Blackburn job.
Jon the Hat Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 I think he will get the Blackburn job. The phrase going from bad to worse springs to mind...
Thracian Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 I've always believed he would make a good manager but perhaps he's expeted too much, too soon, and perhaps his personality makes it impossible for to him to be diplomatic enough for today's environment. I hope he learns from the experience because he won't find people any easier to deal with anywhere else, particularly Naill Quinn. In fact he'll likely find it much harder.
Darkzzz_ Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 Still can't take nothing away from him as to the way he got Sunderland into the premiership. His signings have been questionable but I still think he will go on to be a better manager for it.
Koke Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 I got the impression that he thought he was bigger than the club itself. You could see the past few games that his heart wasn't there to do the job. Sunderland is a big club and if Keane believes he'll get a job at a bigger club he needs his head checked.
surrifox Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 of course you never get the full story, but he certainly looked and sounded like someone who would rather be somewhere else after the weekend game. If , as has been reported , his managerial style is one of berating and criticising players and drawing unfavourable comparisons with his own career then this is probably something only cloughie could have carried off with conviction and even he would struggle in the current climate. I feel a bit sorry for Niall Quinn who backed his manager with serious dosh and has been left with a shower of overpriced muppets all of whom are worth less than Keane paid for them

Samilktray Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 Bringing Djibril Cisse back to the Premiership was the best thing to happen to English football for years.
Fox in a Box Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 He was at forest therefore I have no respect for anything he has done.
Ultra Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 He was at forest therefore I have no respect for anything he has done. So what? So were MON and John Robertson, and look what they did for us! Thinking about it, most top managers have relied on strong assistants. Perhaps the fact that Keane never had one may have been a factor in his eventual demise.

Perhaps the fact that Keane never had one may have been a factor in his eventual demise. I'm not so sure about that, I believe Niall Quinn would have backed him all the way if he wanted to bring in a high-profile assistant, after all he allowed Keane to spend waste over £70m. That just seems a feeble excuse to me.
DB11 Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 So what?So were MON and John Robertson, and look what they did for us! Thinking about it, most top managers have relied on strong assistants. Perhaps the fact that Keane never had one may have been a factor in his eventual demise. His assistant (Tony Loughlan) was the academy manager at LCFC before leaving to join Keane. SUNDERLAND CONFIRMS DEPARTURE OF ROY KEANEAfter 2 ¼ years at the helm, Roy Keane has parted company with Sunderland AFC after both parties reached an amicable agreement. Keane, who decided the time had come to stand down took over Sunderland in August 2006 when the team were languishing at the bottom of the Championship. He steered the Black Cats to promotion to the Premier League at the first attempt and maintained Premier League status in 2008. Sunderland Chairman Niall Quinn said: “First of all on behalf of everyone here I would like pay thanks to Roy Keane for all his hard work in progressing this Club, lifting its status and growing its worldwide profile. “Roy deserves huge respect for his contribution and the manner in which he guided the Club from the depths of The Championship back to the Premier League. His winning mentality and singled mindedness were just what this Club needed when Drumaville took over shortly before his arrival. “Roy’s decision to stand aside and allow someone else to take charge of the next chapter sums up his desire to always do what is best for the Club. Even in his departure he has been more concerned for the welfare of the players and his staff than himself. “The Board has reluctantly accepted his decision and wish him and his family well for the future.“ Roy Keane added “I would like to thank my staff, players, Niall Quinn and in particular the fans for their support during my time at Sunderland and I would like to wish the Club every success in the future.” The Board will now commence the task of identifying and recruiting a successor and Ricky Sbragia has agreed to take over team management assisted by Neil Bailey and Dwight Yorke as an interim measure. http://www.safc.com/
breadandcheese Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 Overhyped, overblown, built up into something he wasn't. He wasted millions at Sunderland on some pretty average players, had a turnover of 33 players over the last three years, signing people for millions before realising he'd made an error and never playing them again. With the money he's spent, Sunderland should be knocking on the door of Europe, not languishing near relegation. All in all, it couldn't happen to a nicer person. Keane as a person showed his colours by going out to intentionally hurt and end a fellow professional's career. That makes him scum in my book.
