Pearson post-match interview

Having just heard the post-match interview on Radio Leicester with Nigel Pearson, it surprised me today that he didn't speak with a bit more passion. He gives less away during questioning that Sven! and was really sarcastic when Nev Folger asked him what he thought about the away support this season - Pearson sarcastically replied 'mmm its been great..happy Christmas' (said with real irony)

The signings he has made have been really good and he tactically seems spot on at present. However, dont forget Nige that we pay your wages and to give the City faithful a bit more credit, particularly for the fantastic away support would be nice..... I fear that should we start to lose a few this interview could return to bit him on the bum.

Dont know who else heard it and whether you agree??...........

Breaking News - Neville Folger retired years ago.

And it's quite refreshing to hear a manager of LCFC keeping his cards close to his chest and keeping his, the team, and the fans to some extent's feet on the ground.

not moaning today at all - to be honest I think it was the best performance in all positions for a long long time. However, having been to a load of away games and shouting the team on to victories... most notably at Orient and Scunny, demands some respect and appreciation of the fanatastic away support this year - the sarky comment grated on me, but you need to hear it for yourself

1 things for sure he'll never be distracted by offers of media work. He never says anything and win or lose he always has the same monotone voice.

Having said that as long as we're still winning I couldn't care less.

Nigel Pearson's alwas sounded like a miserable old sod, but he's getting the job done and that's what matters. I couldn't care less what he says after the game as long as his team are doing the talking on the pitch.

[/end cliche]

I laughed out loud at the Christmas comment as the interviewer was pretty facile and was putting answers into the questions causing Pearson to take a negative approach to them.

Pearson tells it as it is and provides exactly the same response win or lose - it's one game and 3 points and for a manager that really is all it is.

He generally shies away from praising individual players emphasising the team concept but he did, quite rightly make an exception today in praise of Howard.

You can tell the steadying impact he's having on the team because Oakley came across in a very similar vein.

Just be grateful he didn't tell the fans to take a chill pill and have a sandwich :P .

mmmm...dont know why a manager cant have on-field success AND be courteous and respectful of the fans as well? Are the two mutually exclusive?

Dust off the cobwebs from your wallet and buy a programme for £3 and read how he pretty much always praises the away support in his notes.

In fact just for you seeing as it's christmas:

Your support has continued to exceed all expectations and to see over 1000 of you make the 430 mile round trip to Cumbria last weekend was quite incredible.

Well I didn't detect disrespect of the fans just the questions which as I said already had answers in them, I would argue that the interviewer was disrespectful trying to pre-empt Pearson's response. I found the interviewer really irritating.

Did you go to Carlisle?

Pearson clearly respects and appreciates the City support, and he showed that last weekend. He's also an intelligent man, so he must get annoyed at the constant stream of shit questions offered to him by Radio Leicester.

The interviewer sounded scared shitless about offending the guy.

So many managers seem to resent media questioning and you can understand it in some ways.

However the media are part of the circus that keeps putting football in front of fans and managers might even help their own cause if they were more co-operative and less contemptuous of reporters.

It hasn't always been like it is today. I remember two interviews in particular. One with Sir Bobby Robson and the other with Bill Shankly.

In the first Robson got interrupted after about 10 minutes and had to cut the interview short. With great apology he gave me his home number and insisted I call him the following day - a Sunday when, good as his word, he was helpfullness itself and ansered endless questions fully, frankly and with great good sense.

Shankly was a man apart. I asked one question. He answered and from that kept talking about Liverpool football club and his players for a full half-hour, piling anecdote upon anecdote to give me a full notebook by the end.

"Yews want to talk some more son," he said at the end in his broad Ayrshire accent. "Just ring when you like....especially if it's a cold day or it's raining!"

Responding to idiot questions does not mean the man does not have respect for "fans" at large.

By all accounts he is a very respectful bloke.

He could produce film from his arse showing the Queen involved in donkey-sex at this moment in time, to find fault with his interview style is ridiculous in the extreme. You need a hobby.

I am guessing this is some sort of take on comedy because we are 4points clear at the top at Christmas, just beat the side in 4th at the start of play 4-0 have won 6 games on the spin and since the start of November we have won 8 and drawn 1 league game without defeat and STILL someone finds something to have a moan and whinge about...

I am totally bemused by some of our fans sometimes..

From OS

Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson singled out Steve Howard for praise following his side's comprehensive 4-0 victory over local rivals Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon.

The big hitman has very much been the unsung hero of the team for the season to date - with strike partner Matty Fryatt often stealing the headlines.

But Pearson said that Howard's injury time strike was just rewards for the hard work and effort he has put in - both on and off the field.

He said: "I am very pleased that Steve got a goal today. Everyone has been willing him to score - you could tell that from the reaction of the players, staff and supporters.

"I know the amount of work that he puts in - both on a daily basis on the training pitches and on a and on a week to week basis in games. He contributes a heck of a lot to the team's performance and for him to score a goal is a reward for his efforts.

"He's done well for us this year and hopefully this will be ths start of a run of goals."

City took the lead early on in the contest through a Craig Morgan own goal, with in-form Fryatt and Andy King getting the other goals on the day.

Pearson added: "It's one game in the right direction for us. We will certainly enjoy the fact that we have won it comprehensively, but it's done now and there we go.

"It was a good team performance. Peterborough are a decent side in this division - there is no doubt about that.

"They have had a very good run of form and have players who are potentially destructive, so it was satisfying to win in the fashion that we did."

The Leicester chief also had a word for the City faithful - who were again in great voice on the day.

"To have a crowd of over 23,000 on what is typically a day that people do their Christmas shopping is admirable. I will never tire of praising our supporters and they have a big part to play in what we are trying to achieve here."

Well said Nigel.

That should put an end to the stirring...

Pearson is a football manager, not a media clown like Holloway.

& that is just the way I like it.

Agreed. He's a bloke absolutely focused on the job and keeps reinforcing that promotion is nowhere near done yet. Maybe if we do win the league, you might not even see Pearson celebrate then - maybe thinks this is just stage one. He was over the moon with Howard's goal and support his players and fans, not the media.

Reminds me of Coppell in his exchanges with the media which is refreshing instead of the attention-grabbing Holloway (stuck on Footy Focus, unemployed) who had an article near enough every day in the Mercury.

I listened to the interview and i was abit disappointed with Pearson's lack of passion, i thought he would really praise the players and crowd. After feeling really upbeat and happy after the game i hoped he would be the same in his interview. I feel like sometimes he thinks the interviewer is trying to catch him out. That said it doesn't matter what he says as hes doing a great job and has got a great midfield which we have lacked for a long time and bring on Leeds on boxing day.
