Uncle Albert Posted 12 January 2009 Posted 12 January 2009 Yea boy! Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the Fifa World Player of the Year for 2008. The Portugal and Manchester United midfielder becomes the first Premier League player to win the award. Ronaldo, 23, beat AC Milan's Kaka, Liverpool's Fernando Torres and Barcelona's Lionel Messi and Xavi to the prestigious title. "It's an overwhelming moment in my career and I'd like to dedicate this award to my family, friends and colleagues," said the winger. Ronaldo's 42 goals for Manchester United last season helped the Old Trafford club to the Premier League and Champions League double. Get in there! Deserved.
Simi Posted 12 January 2009 Posted 12 January 2009 Fully deserved, nobody will argue. I'll come back and read this comment tomorrow.
lcfc_jme Posted 12 January 2009 Posted 12 January 2009 Fair play to the guy, his achievements last season were quite remarkable. Still think the guy goes missing in all his big games, though. And I do think that Leo Messi is a better player than Ronaldo in general. But fair play to the lad. Great feat to win that.
lildave3 Posted 12 January 2009 Posted 12 January 2009 I'll come back and read this comment tomorrow. Ok, nobody can argue, unless they're an idiot.
StanSP Posted 12 January 2009 Posted 12 January 2009 Deserved (on last season's performances) But I still don't like him.
The Reverend Posted 12 January 2009 Posted 12 January 2009 I think that Messi should ave won it - i mean how can you ar..... Fully deserved, nobody will argue. Yeah, Ronaldos definitely the man. He deserves it
Finnegan Posted 12 January 2009 Posted 12 January 2009 I dislike him, I think his attitude on the field is a negative influence on the sport and I think some of the news stories that break around him off the field leave concerns. But really, is there a better player on the planet for doing what he does? I hope he's consistent and last year wasn't just some sort of blip on the map, I'd love to be able to grow old knowing I've witnessed one of the greatest players of all time. The coming year could well be Messi's, mind, if Barca keep it up.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 12 January 2009 Posted 12 January 2009 Alright I'll step up. Prefer watching Messi any day of the week, and Barca are worthy of being his team-mates this season. Revenge on the cards in the Champions League.
Koke Posted 12 January 2009 Posted 12 January 2009 I think he has [sort of] cleaned up on his diving antics and he has become a bit more humble and matured. He's 24 next month after all. I dislike Rooney far more than Ronaldo, that's for sure.
Sparky Posted 12 January 2009 Posted 12 January 2009 Well deserved , got a lot of improving to do over the 2nd half of this season if he is gonna be a contender for 2009 though

Deserved it maybe but I doubt it'll change my life for the better

Revenge on the cards in the Champions League. Sure, but looking back at '08 it was clearly more Ronaldo's year than Messi's. I'd agree with you overall and, like I said, I think 09 will be the Argie's year.

Finnegan Posted 12 January 2009 Posted 12 January 2009 Yeah just trying to get one of those weird Premiership-player rants out of Uncle Albert. I love them. Yeah Ronaldo's pretty overrated. People only think he's good because they see him week in week out. He's actually just a poor man's Scott MacDonald.
Floating Fox Posted 13 January 2009 Posted 13 January 2009 I may start singing songs about his driving skills at palace...
potter3 Posted 13 January 2009 Posted 13 January 2009 I may start singing songs about his driving skills at palace... He swerves to the leffffft...
ozleicester Posted 13 January 2009 Posted 13 January 2009 take out the attitude and the diving and the cash...Simply the man is one of the most talented ive seen play the game, there will be a time when you will tell your grandkids...I saw Ronaldo play. bastard
Darkzzz_ Posted 13 January 2009 Posted 13 January 2009 Most of the opinions in this topic echo what I think, I am glad we are not all puppets of the U.K media. Last season Ronaldo was unquestionably the best in the world, He is a world class footballer. So well done to Ronaldo for last season and a fantastic season at that. Would love to watch him live, although it would take a hell of performance to match that of a certain little magician I have seen a few times......... Paul Daniels!!! See, all that without a mention of Barca or Messi.
