BlabyFox Posted 16 February 2009 Posted 16 February 2009 Personally i dislike him. He seems to be a wing-back sort of player but he doesn't really use his speed and he loses the ball a lot - not that good a defender either imo. I'd prefer Berner on right and Mattock on left.
Father Ted Posted 16 February 2009 Posted 16 February 2009 I'm still undecided. He's been very poor recently but if he can discover the form he had at the beginning of the season then sign him up.

Round pegs in round holes my friend. I think Gilbert's a good little full back and if he's available (which I think he will be) I think we should snap him up. he has a lot to learn still, but he's still a youngster. The main weakness I think was shown at Huddersfield away, diagonal balls over his head cause him a problem. But as stated, he has time to improve and I am sure he will.
Joe. Posted 16 February 2009 Posted 16 February 2009 Disagree. I think he's been solid for us all year, both in defence and attacking. I'd like to sign him if possible.
BlabyFox Posted 16 February 2009 Author Posted 16 February 2009 The edit function isn't working. I was gonna change the woh typo to who. <_<
BlabyFox Posted 16 February 2009 Author Posted 16 February 2009 Disagree.I think he's been solid for us all year, both in defence and attacking. I'd like to sign him if possible. I think his form has dipped recently. He was good earlier in the season.
Daggers Posted 16 February 2009 Posted 16 February 2009 Gilbert and Powell At the end of the season send him back - he started well but he's not done enough for me to warrant staying. His crossing is never Championship class...even if his attitude is totally Premier League.
Hitesh Posted 16 February 2009 Posted 16 February 2009 Sign him up if we can! He is a young player and will learn a lot from Pearson and from playing in this league and hopefully the championship! You can't just discard youngsters just because they are having a "poor" patch - and when I mean poor patch, its not that he is doing a lot wrong, he isn't playing like he did at the start of the season. For a player like him, he is probably suffering a little from the amount of games he is playing! This is probably his first real season where he is playing competitive football consistently. He will pick up his form no doubt as we have seen he has the ability. Its evident from the whole squad that they are suffering a little from tiredness. We must be on about 40 games already this season.
Webbo Posted 16 February 2009 Posted 16 February 2009 Sign him up, he started off like a train, he's gone off the boil recently but he's still our best right back. I didn't think he had a bad game Saturday.
Lovejoy Posted 16 February 2009 Posted 16 February 2009 Poor on Saturday, both our fullback aren't doing the business.
volpeazzurro Posted 16 February 2009 Posted 16 February 2009 Disagree.I think he's been solid for us all year, both in defence and attacking. I'd like to sign him if possible. It's all about opinion I suppose and I have to disagree I'm afraid. He quite clearly will never be up to Arsenal or Premiership standard and could therefore, I believe, become available at the end of the season. His positional sense seems poor on occasions but this is surpassed by his very frequent lapses in concentration which I put down to him either being disinterested or just plain thick. Mattock in comparison on the other hand, whilst through age being inexperienced and a bit nieve, appears to be quite a natural who should become a really good player. Should Gilbert become available I personally wouldn't rush to sign him uless really really cheap or on a free! Theres much better out there to be honest.
Bert Posted 16 February 2009 Posted 16 February 2009 Disagree.I think he's been solid for us all year, both in defence and attacking. I'd like to sign him if possible. I agree. We need to sign him up i think. Berner is not a right-back . Edworthy is back up to Gilbert.
dandannieldanok Posted 16 February 2009 Posted 16 February 2009 I wouldn't sign him up, hasn't produced the goods consistently enough and presuming we get promoted it's obviously going to be tougher in the championship. And for left-back I'd play Berner.
King Cal Posted 16 February 2009 Posted 16 February 2009 Sign him up good player despite being very disappointing over last 3-4 games. My team for Hartlepool would be Bunn Cleverley Morrison Hobbs Berner Gradel Oakley King Mattock Howard Fryatt Subs: Pentney Brown Hayes Chambers Sappleton Dickov, Hayles are a complete waste of space in my opinion

A waste if you ask me.
Edmund Posted 16 February 2009 Posted 16 February 2009 Disagree.I think he's been solid for us all year, both in defence and attacking. I'd like to sign him if possible. Spot on, some people are quick to forget.
Legend_in_blue Posted 16 February 2009 Posted 16 February 2009 Gilbert has been fairly solid this season but I think there's better than him in his position in this league. I don't think he'll cut it at championship level. The only loanee(s) who will is Hobbs (and Martin), and we're unlikely to get either.
Ultra Posted 16 February 2009 Posted 16 February 2009 No way Cleverley will be used at RB!! A waste if you ask me. He did OK there in the Huddersfield game. Gilbert is going through a rough spell at the moment. But he's hardly the only one. And in Tunchev's absence, he's the only defender with any pace.
Roadley38 Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 I personally thought he was brilliant on saturday and showed he wanted it more than anyone, sign him up for good i say!!! I'll even supply the pen x
Houdini Logic Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 Sign him up and get him back in form - he was cracking the first part of the season
