Koke Posted 22 February 2009 Posted 22 February 2009 These letters were given out to a section of Middlesbrough fans today against Wigan. I don't know whether to laugh or cry. The last paragraph/line is really a sad state of affairs. Their fellow Boro fans are complaining because there's too much noise. Asking them to sit down is one thing, but asking them to keep the noise down is bizarre.

Because they have a decent sized stadium and they never EVER get close to filling it... it's pathetic for a team in the Premiership. They are arguably the worst supported club in the top flight.

Koke Posted 22 February 2009 Author Posted 22 February 2009 I actually quite like Middlesbrough. Their youth academy is one of the best in the country. Shit fan base, but they are a well run club. And Steve Gibson is one of the best chairmen you will find in this country.

Let them stay in the prem and give us some proper aways days such as Pompey, Blackburn, Stoke, Newcastle, Spurs, WBA etc. Same reason I'd appreciate it if Reading, Wolves and probably Cardiff (with their new walkers lookalike) could get promoted.

To believe that everyone who passes their turnstiles come to watch the match and behave in a subdued manor is wishful thinking by those who wish to take your money and tell you how to spend your free time. How anyone who runs a business on this basis, believe thier customers will continue to return after recieveing treatment like this time after time, is living in cloud cookoo land. The problem is that for many years the T.V money has becomes more imortant than their own fan base! I hope that the credit problems we see at present effect the clubs to such an extent that they will be forced to give their fans what they want, and make them the priority. Singing & standing at a football match what ever next? No music I suppose

No music I suppose Unless a clubs being heavy bankrolled by a chairman who experiences severe personal financial difficulties I can't see it having any effect in the top divison. As you say clubs in the prem just don't give a fook because the tv money is so much more important than gate receipts. The new tv deal which was struck a couple of weeks ago will run until after the crisis is over, and it's 6% more obscene than last time round so they're not gunna be getting any problems on that front. Sky said they could afford to better their last offer because because they've seen a boom in new subscriptions. They've just employed a thousand new workers to fit and repair sky boxes. They reckon it's because more people are watching films and football at home than going to cinemas/stadiums. A problem for lower league clubs but prem teams have got the increased tv money to off-set it.

But they are not organised and for every one that stands up someone else wants to sit down. A huge problem today both with this subject and so many othgers is that one complainant can have proportionately far more impact than they ever deserve because the 20,000 who might a different way aren't raising the issue with the club. I had a classic scenario at Hartlepool. The huge majority of fans stood up including the guys directly in front of me. But the elderly couple behind me wanted to sit and, according to the rules, had every right to sit. They couldn't see while I remained standing and I couldn't see if I sat down. Impasse. And why should thousands of fans who want to stand be forced to sit and have the atmosphere ruined because of some OTT health and safety directive and because of two moaning pensioners? Is it really beyond the wit of man to have seated areas and standing areas according to demand just as there is a family area for the nippers and corporate boxes for the prawn sandwich people? Seems the tories are campaigning to save the traditional pub. Perhaps they could join the liberals in trying to bring some tradition back to our football grounds as well though whether either will have the will to do it properly remains to be seen.
