davieG Posted 13 March 2009 Posted 13 March 2009 fillyourboots view
Foxes to take Lions' share
Millwall v Leicester Nigel Pearson has challenged his players to bounce back from their midweek loss as Tranmere ended their club record unbeaten run. Goals from Antony Kay and a Steve Jennings penalty handed the Foxes their first defeat in 24 but the Leicester boss remains confident that his side can win their promotion fight. “Our players are always under pressure to win games as we should not be in this league,” Pearson said. “We have got to see the season through and make sure we are promoted.” Leicester’s second away defeat of the campaign leaves the Blues nine points clear of second placed Peterborough ahead of their visit to the New Den and the table-toppers left Merseyside nursing injuries to a couple of key players. Andy King was forced off at Prenton Park with a heavy knock to his knee while on-loan goalkeeper David Stockdale is also a doubt after suffering a shoulder injury. Millwall proudly hold the record as the only side to have come away with a victory at the Walkers Stadium so far this season as Gary Alexander’s strike proved to be the winner when the sides last met back in September. Alexander was on target again in the week as his first-half strike handed Kenny Jackett’s men a slender win over Northampton as the Lions consolidated their place in the play-offs. The South East London outfit lie five points behind Peterborough and have two games in hand over Darren Ferguson’s side. Victory against the Cobblers was Millwall’s fourth win in their last five, but their first at home since mid January. Reading’s James Henry has extended his stay for a further two months and his inclusion will breed confidence throughout the Lions’ side as they welcome the league leaders to the New Den. Defeat in midweek will have rallied their opponents, however, and Pearson intends to ensure the midweek loss was just a minor blip, so victory at the New Den will be seen as the perfect response in their bid for an immediate return to the Championship. Verdict: Millwall 1-2 Leicester
Stevosevic Posted 13 March 2009 Posted 13 March 2009 Nervous ahead of this one, why can't the season just end now!
Daggers Posted 13 March 2009 Posted 13 March 2009 Cracking day out planned. In the first pub for as near to 10 as I can make it.
Darkzzz_ Posted 13 March 2009 Posted 13 March 2009 Looking forward to this, I hear the spoons is the place for the FT posse.
davieG Posted 13 March 2009 Author Posted 13 March 2009 Expect another new goalie We'll need a separate poll for goalie of the year.
Monk Posted 13 March 2009 Posted 13 March 2009 Looking forward to this, I hear the spoons is the place for the FT posse. Won't be there myself as I am having a few swan lestas down for lunch but hopefully see you around
siparker06 Posted 13 March 2009 Posted 13 March 2009 I expect that there will be quite a few other posh fans cheering you on tomorrow, dont disappoint us, you can drop points later in the seaon so we can overtake you on the final day of the season and steal the title.
Darkzzz_ Posted 13 March 2009 Posted 13 March 2009 Won't be there myself as I am having a few swan lestas down for lunch but hopefully see you around Yes mate, well you know what I look like now.
Corky Posted 13 March 2009 Posted 13 March 2009 I think they'll try and hit us early on, so if we can withstand that and settle the game down, we could be alright. Will be very tough though, but we seem to raise our game for the big matches (with the exception of Millwall at home).
Monk Posted 13 March 2009 Posted 13 March 2009 Yes mate, well you know what I look like now. nice photos on there by the way. Will try to spot you will prob also come out for a drink after the game too. 1-0 Leicester (Howard 31)
Ultra Posted 13 March 2009 Posted 13 March 2009 Expect yet another team to treat the game against us as their cup final. Millwall were physically "competitive" when beating us at the Way and will be equally so on their own patch. We'll need Oakley and Howard to show some leadership to the youngsters in our team, but they'll be too tired from their exertions on a heavy pitch at Tranmere to do so. The best we can hope for is no more injuries, so we can regroup and get things back on track against Colchester next week. And if you think I'm being unduly negative, wait until you see Pearson's team selection and tactics.
Bert Posted 13 March 2009 Posted 13 March 2009 I Can't see King making it. Which means Bruno in midfield - the one bonus is we'll actually have a bit more steel.
Lillehamring Posted 13 March 2009 Posted 13 March 2009 I Can't see King making it. Which means Bruno in midfield - the one bonus is we'll actually have a bit more steel. possibly not such a bad thing to be honest, a taste of what they did to us...after all, a win here is more important to them than us... would liek to see him play gradel down the wing tho - the thought of cleverley/oakley/berner/mattock across the middle sounds turgid....
Darkzzz_ Posted 13 March 2009 Posted 13 March 2009 nice photos on there by the way. Will try to spot you will prob also come out for a drink after the game too.1-0 Leicester (Howard 31) Ah thats nice of you. Yes if you see me come over and say hello. I am going for a 2-1 myself, (Gradel 199th Minute free kick)
MC Prussian Posted 13 March 2009 Posted 13 March 2009 Trepidation? Consolidation? Premonisation? Millwall as Cataclysation? As long as you all get out at the right station and witness a smashing sensation from the lads in black (?), I'm all game. Transportation sorted? 2-1 to us - anything else and we'll be witnessing the return of the Lesta Loan Moan Troupe.
Katy Posted 13 March 2009 Posted 13 March 2009 Not confident about this at all, even less so after Tranmere. I think we'll lose 1-0. Really want to be wrong though of course.
hemelfox Posted 13 March 2009 Posted 13 March 2009 Alas, I think we will lose, especially if Pearson plays the starting 11 from the other night. Attack is the best form of defence and should start the game with the same team that started the Cheltenham game. 2-0 to Millwall. Hope I am wrong.
Monk Posted 13 March 2009 Posted 13 March 2009 We are the best team in this league, we should win. As much as I don't rate Gradel's dostrobution I think he and Cleverly could be pivotal in finding space to mount attacks. Berner and Oakley in the middle is good with me. I always optimistic for these things but it's going to be a great day, and I think we'll win a hard fought battle.
RowlattsFox Posted 13 March 2009 Posted 13 March 2009 Think we need a bit of Berner in the midfield, because they are very physical in the middle and will probably play 4-5-1. I wouldn't be suprised to see Fryatt take up a wider role if we start getting over-run with Oakley and Cleverley going central. Not confident about this at all, but thats usually a good thing this season.
