mikelcfc Posted 31 March 2009 Posted 31 March 2009 that helps us a lot... makes us a little safer in the automatic places... thanks colchester... sort of makes up for the draw the other week
Corky Posted 31 March 2009 Posted 31 March 2009 That is a vital result (though we should be well ahead ourselves), but I'm feeling better than I did on Saturday night. Still a little bit to go, hopefully this will give us the impetus required to finished the job.
Milky Posted 31 March 2009 Posted 31 March 2009 Points in the bag not games in hand. Just ask MK dons and Millwall
StanSP Posted 31 March 2009 Posted 31 March 2009 We basically need 3 wins from somewhere......Carlisle, Hereford and Crewe. I'd go for that. I think you can add S****horpe to that list. Think we'll beat them
Matt Posted 31 March 2009 Posted 31 March 2009 Millwall lose tonight and Saturday means the most they can get is 88.So if we win, we'll need four points. Okey Doke, So (Despite just telling Maddog to hold the celebrations just yet) i'm gonna say IF Millwall lose on Saturday and IF we win on Saturday it's all over - Despite still needing four points to guarentee it, As leftsideoverhere said Millwall knew this was a big night tonight and even though there is still a slim chance I think they will fall now! Takes quite abit of pressure off us on Saturday but I still class it as a must win - Even if its just to push on a win the league (I'd accept it obviously - Even if I didn't tough there is nothing I can do about it, but i'd be very disappointed with 2nd spot after topping the league almost all season). But it's must win on Saturday and C'Mon Walsall - Millwall are at home again on Saturday aswell :w00t: Dodgy Home Form  Millwall 0 - 1 Colchester - Full Time.
Alexikokopops Posted 31 March 2009 Posted 31 March 2009 With our superior goal difference we need 9 points from our remaining six games to ensure promotion. KEEN
maddog Posted 31 March 2009 Posted 31 March 2009 9 more points to mathimatically guarantee promotion, unless we lose the other 3 games by 6 goals+ It's 9 points, beat Carlisle Saturday, beat Hereford, we can seal it in the Leeds game.

And with any luck (Depending on their results prior to our game obviously) we can beat Leeds and at the same time as confirming our promotion fook their chances of the playoffs...That is the dream!

Ok, so say for instance we get two wins from Carlisle and Hereford. The stage is set... ...and it's us so a massive cock-up is going to happen right there. Sky tv, touting us up, giving us the big this and that, and then we make a right tit of it. I can see it now.

We'll probably take a comfortable 3-0 lead at half time. And then fuck it up in 2nd half a la Wolves few years ago

No. 10 points guarantees promotion. You are not taking into account goal difference.
maddog Posted 31 March 2009 Posted 31 March 2009 No. 10 points guarantees promotion. You are not taking into account goal difference. No i am taking into account goal difference your not 9 points gives us 91. Maximum points for Millwall gives them 91. Our goal difference is currently +26 on them. So lets say we win those 3 games to get 9 points all by 1 goal, giving us a goal difference of +29 on them. Even if Millwall win all their last 6 games by 3 goals (+18) and we lose our other 3 games by 3 goals (-9) we will still beat them on goal difference by +2. And thats if they win by 3 goals EVERY GAME, and we lose by 3 goals EVERY GAME after getting 9 points. So basically 9 points guarantees promotion. And they will drop points anyway at some point, but even if they somehow get 6 wins, 9 points will be enough. Theres just as much chance of you winning the lottery, than there is of us not going up with 9 more points.

I accept that it is almost inconceivable that the goal difference would be a factor but so long as it is possible the word "guarantee" is a misuse of the English language. Still I won't labour the point. Bert doesn't understand the meaning of guarantee either.
Koke Posted 31 March 2009 Posted 31 March 2009 What a win for Millwall http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...v_2/7971880.stm
Sods Posted 31 March 2009 Posted 31 March 2009 Is there any way we could be promoted at the Hereford game? That would be a massive kick in the teeth for me.
maddog Posted 31 March 2009 Posted 31 March 2009 Is there any way we could be promoted at the Hereford game? That would be a massive kick in the teeth for me. Yes but only a small chance. Theres a fair chance we will be though, due to our goal difference, but that won't 'officially guarantee promotion'. I rekon theres a 70% chance of it being Leeds, 25% Southend, and very very very small chances of it being Hereford, Scunny, Crewe or none
surrifox Posted 1 April 2009 Posted 1 April 2009 What a win for Millwall http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/e...v_2/7971880.stm this is very handy indeed. Goal from Yeates' cross- total shite with us but has played well at Colchester
Ultra Posted 3 April 2009 Posted 3 April 2009 Is there any way we could be promoted at the Hereford game? That would be a massive kick in the teeth for me. If Millwall drop points both tomorrow and next week.. ...if Franchise drop two more points.... ...and if we beat Carlisle.... ...then yes, a win at Hereford would indeed confirm our promotion back to the Championship.
