Thracian Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 Steve Howard's goal was as emphatic s an execution. Everyone who has ever dubted the bloke this season should hang their heads. Howard's barely leapt much higher than the blades of grass under his feet this season despite his considerable effect but he was like a young stud getting up for that one and I reckoned it did much to mirror his frustration at a referee who ignored all the fouls on him yet so often found some petty excuse to blow up if he so much as brushed someone. Jusdtice was done City created the better chances, particularly from open play and had big performances from so many parts of the pitch. Lloyd Dyer was man of the match for cutting a maze around and between the Leeds defence and inviting them to find their own way out of the path he'd led them up. He twisted some of Leeds so far inside out that it'll be the middle of the week before their insides are back to normal. Max Gradel was different but little less impressive. I've alluded to Gradel's ability to make things happen by way of creating or scoring goals and today he followed up his Hereford assist with the perfect corner for Pearson to despatch for the winner. Earlier he had cut Leeds to ribbons before sending the perfect low cross right past a virtually open goal with no-one possessing the anticipation just to tap it in. At the other end he cleared one efort that rebounded off the crossbar away to safety and releived the pressure from a dangerous far post cross - both in quick succession - and his general defending, determination and decision-making were excellent. Oakley, King, Hobbs.. there was so many good performers. Mattock had his bnest game for weeks there was the sight of Hobbsy playing the simple ball from defence, Morrison eased all my concerns about how weak we might be a right-back and there was, for once, a Leicester team that came fast out of the traps and lasted the course. Well done, one and all. Thrilling game, the sort of result I've dreamed off plus good beer and good company at the Criterion to celebrate. The only unhappy City an I saw was an invalid whose wheelchair had a puncture leaving him stranded by the hotel opposite the ground. Honestly the tyres he had looked like they wouldn't serve a Dinky. Never mind. I think the equivalent of the mobility AA were on the case so I could concentrate on the real task in hand - locating sufficent Barbar beer to offer suitable toast to a team full of heroes! :scarf:
demon_dog Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 Lovely Jubbly! Great display from the lads. You could tell the way they harried and chased the ball down that they were really up for the game. They didn't really give Leeds much chance to settle down, although we did have a couple of hairy moments. Great time to score, makes up for the one against us by Carlisle. Made up for when I was walking to ground on my own and a couple of Leeds fans drove past, they were giving me rude gestures. Wish I had seen them after the game. Anyone know of any trouble in the F Bar about 3.15 loads of Police turned up, the traffic was held up for about 10 mins. Just have to decide now whether to get a ticket for the Southend game, according to the box office there are still some available.
Mike the Metal Ed Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 I recorded the game on DVD, I'm just watching it back yet, currently on the 85th minute, all the fun starts in a minute, Can't wait! Any way to upload it (torrents etc) or otherwise allow those who didn't have the presence of mind to set their Sky+ boxes to bask in the glory?

Unit Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 Brilliant end to a brilliant game. Was at the back of the kop and it was shaking an alarming amount at the end! Honestly thought we were gonna fall!
James. Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 I'm going so we probably won't win. I ****ing love being wrong. That was the best game I've been to this season.
Daggers Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 Fantastic - just saw Matty Oakley take out Becchio in slow-mo. I don't care how many dead balls he cocks up this season after that.
Joe. Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 I ****ing love being wrong. That was the best game I've been to this season. That's not difficult.

CTFC_FOX Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 Was a great game to watch:) 2 Great results today Chelt won and Lcfc won Get in there
Bellend Sebastian Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 That was unbelievable. So good to see all the effort being rewarded at the death. Enjoyed Gradel's equaliser at MK Dons more than any goal in ages, but this was different class. Every player contributed to the win. Someone may tell me otherwise, but I thought the Leeds fans behaved themselves pretty well (compared to previous visits anyway), and concentrated on backing their team, who contributed fully to a great game. It's days like this that you forget the times when they've let you down
Matt Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 Any way to upload it (torrents etc) or otherwise allow those who didn't have the presence of mind to set their Sky+ boxes to bask in the glory? I'll have a go, not promising anything as i'm not really very good at these type of things.

davieG Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 DavieG, is there any chance you could put together one of those highlights packages like you did for Yeovil and then stick them up on here please? I want to watch the last minute again. I only got the first half as my pc locked up, being at the game I couldn't fix it.

Leeds fans were outstanding. Completely shut everyone up for the majority of the first half with "We all love Leeds". Fair play. But it was on the pitch that mattered more to me. And we had by far the biggest, loudest, most important, last laugh at the end.

Thracian Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 It's funny - but one Leeds view is that we're kicking out way out of this division .... From Kebablegs on the BBC (My Team) site: "Some would say committed? Some would say aggressive but had Leeds been as physical as Leicester you would only hear "dirty Leeds". I cant comment on Leicesters season as a whole obviously but i based on todays showing they have gone up with force. They were capable of playing the odd bit of good football but they rely totally on Steve Howard to who draws defenders to him and leaves space for the likes of Dyer and Fryatt. Leicester chased and harried for the full 90minutes. Fryatt was all over Naylor the whole match and with Howard is the first line of defence. Oakleys tackle on Becchio showed what he is all about and then even the flimsy looking Gradel managed to kick Kilkenny when he was on the floor. Brown was superglued to Becchio for 90mins with some tough play. I am not complaining mind. I think Leicester based on this showing have done the right thing in kicking their way out of the division. Leeds on the other hand under McAllister were too soft and thats why we languish behind. Player for player i still think we have a better squad than Leicester, but we didnt have the better manager on board. We were Leicesters' equals out there on the pitch today. Grayson is getting us there steadily and hopefully we will get a playoff spot and join Leicester next season in the CC. Good luck to Leicester and congratulations."
