Part Of The Crowd Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 At least they made a fight of it and went through to near the end of the season Good luck in a swift return Luton.
JoeyB Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 Went down with silverware as well! hope they bounce back
Fox92 Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 Yep, quite sad actually as they faught well. -30 points was a joke, no wonder they booed that F.A man at Wembley last week. So glad they beat S****horpe. Hope they bounce back via bounce back ability as shown by Nigel and the lads.
davieG Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 Still feel it's the wrong punishment - this just punishes the fans no one else and they are as innocent as the fans of other clubs this was brought in for. It's obviously not working either based on the number of teams still entering admin ( I know all the points weren't for that). If the FL were really serious about this they would ensure that clubs couldn't spend beyond their means and were regularly audited. Any one running the club responsible for going into admin should then be banned from the game.
Guest Bilo Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 Were relegated from August, which of course was the intention of the Football League. I for one will back them to win the Blue Square Premier next season, and will probably make a trip to Kenilworth Road to cheer them on when we have an international break. Best of luck to you Hatters, you can go down with your heads held high.
Ultra Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 They'll be back. Their fanbase is way too big for the conference.
AmericanScott Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 Very very unlucky Luton. I hope they come straight back up.
Guest Bilo Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 They'll be back.Their fanbase is way too big for the conference. Every possibility that Luton will be playing AFC Wimbledon next season. Two clubs that have been shamefully treated by the Football League. Wouldn't it be fantastic for football if Luton won the title and the Real Dons won the play-offs? If AFC Wimbledon do go up to the BSP, then I may well be attending the game between these two sides. EDIT: And you're right Ultra, they really are too big for that division. Surely bookies faves to make an immediate return.
Corky Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 Feel for them. Given no chance by the Football League, they battled hard, won a trophy and went down with real pride. Hope they bounce back next season.
Jon the Hat Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 Absolute travesty. Feel nothing but sympathy for the fans, new owners and players. They didn't deserve this. Here's hoping they come back up next season. I still think the FA have no place interfering with the financial affairs of clubs. As long as they don't go out of business they retain their place in the league.
Fosse Boy Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 Fuck the Football League. We love you Luton, we do.
Joinesy77 Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 They gave it their best shot but they were never going to be able to survive after the ridiculous punishment by the football league. All that punishment has done is punish the fans. I cannot understand how relegating teams in financial trouble is in any way beneffitting football. Hopefully the football league will use common sense and not ruin any more clubs in the future. Good luck to Luton next year. Do a Leicester and go straight back up
CosbehFox Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 Their fanbase is way too big for the conference. Hardly helped Cambridge or Oxford (who brought 2k to Woking today and delayed the ko in the process). They need to get someone with non-league expertise on the coaching staff pronto!
Nationwider Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 I always felt the 30 point penalty was ridiculous; it makes a mockery of the League as a competition, along with the two 17-point penalties for Bournemouth and Rotherham. The fans of those fans have been so badly treated. It would have been far better to have just have done with it and relegated Luton to the Conference; the fans have effectively been served with a minimum two-year penalty and their punishment continues into next season following the inevitable relegation. Points deductions should be outlawed as they distort the balance of a competition. How do you attract decent players to a club starting on -30 points? Or new fans, for that matter? They have to come up with something better than this. Any fine should act as a deterrant - but this clearly isn't happening in this case with (probably) more clubs following Luton into administration in the coming seasons. These decisions don't affect the perpetrators - theyt affect the fans. The starting point should be who is entitled to run a football club. The 'fit and proper persons' rule needs tightening up to prevent unscrupulous and inept chairmen and board members who cause clubs going into administration in the first place ruining the game and it's competitions.
potter3 Posted 13 April 2009 Posted 13 April 2009 The fans of those fans have been so badly treated. I wish I had fans

Katy Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Just seen SSN with a supporter being interviewed after the game, he was in bits. Like he said, him and the rest of the Luton supporters have done nothing wrong and don't deserve what has happened to them. At least though, they have Nick Owen and other people who care about Luton to sort them out now.
Floating Fox Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Was funny being with Barnet fans yesterday. They hate Luton, as do any team from down that way. They've got them at home next week and wanted to send them down there. They've got to shut half of Barnet down because of Luton's fans. Going to kick-off big time apparently as Barnet's chairmen was on the pannel that gave them -30 points. Feel sorry for them in a way, but Luton is a Dive, and their fans aren't angels, still the Football League fooked them over. Not nice.

Didn't Nick Owen's chaps (I can't remember the name of the consortium) come clean to the FA about what had been done at the club before?
