Uncle Albert Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Must be some sort of joke. Player of the Year Edwin Van Der Sar Ryan Giggs Nemanja Vidic Rio Ferdinand Cristiano Ronaldo Steven Gerrard Young Player of the Year Jonny Evans Rafael Da Silva Aaron Lennon Gabby Agobonlahor Stephen Ireland Ashley Young Man United may well be top of the League but to have Van Der Sar, Ryan Giggs, Jonny Evans and Rafael Da Silva as the contenders is so unfair to the rest of the Premier League. Anelka the Leagues top scorer not in contention, Hangeland been one of the best defenders this season not in there and Xabi Alonso probably one of the best centre mids in the League this year. What a joke!
Tevez Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 What a pisstake. Gerrard and Ireland for me. Would of been Hangeland but where is he??
welck12 Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 As great as giggs has been this year he has been only a bit part player (compared to what he has been), the same for rafael he's only played what 15 games? Van Dar Sar is in there purely for the record, everyone seems to forget the bad games/mistakes he's made. Definatly a kick in the teeth to some of the players from the "smaller" clubs (esp cahill) EDIT - Ireland defo; Vidic as well for me, but can see them giving it to gerrard depending on how rest of season plays out
Corky Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Why no Everton players? Cahill, Jagielka and Fellaini have all impressed.
dandannieldanok Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Ryan Giggs?!?! Has he even started ten games? . Who's on the panel, Alex Ferguson?!? Stephen Ireland should win the young player, has shone in a poor City outfit. Wouldn't chose out of those 6 for the player of the year so I won't bother.
Hitesh Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 What a joke and really makes a mockery of the system! Obviously chosen by Sir Alex!
Stuliasz Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Just shows the intelligence of footballers. Hopefully the players who missed out will be recognized in the proper awards.
Stevosevic Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Where is Lampard? Gerrard only has two more goals and the same amount of assists? Also where is Jagielka? Anelka? Why is Ronaldo in there?
Samilktray Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Why is Ronaldo in there? Because hes joint top scorer?
Joe. Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Definitely Ireland for the young player of the year. Possibly Gerrard for the main one.
dandannieldanok Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Just checked, Giggs has started 9 Premier League games this season and scored one goal. Who the hell nominated him?
Joe. Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Just checked, Giggs has started 9 Premier League games this season and scored one goal. Who the hell nominated him? It could be for his "ambassadorial qualities". I know that's a feature of the football writers' awards, because Henry Winter said he was going to vote for Giggs in that in his FourFourTwo column.
TrickyTrev Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 This Ryan Giggs for player of the year is a joke. People keep going on about his longevity, I wish someone would point out he has been wank for about 4 years now!
J.Lisemore Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 This award is ridiculous. Why only players from the top teams have been picked i don't know. Like someone above said...Why isn't Hangeland in there?
Corky Posted 14 April 2009 Posted 14 April 2009 Just shows the intelligence of footballers. Hopefully the players who missed out will be recognised in the proper awards. You'd like to think so, but I can't see it tbh.
Ultra Posted 15 April 2009 Posted 15 April 2009 Just shows the intelligence of footballers. Hopefully the players who missed out will be recognized in the proper awards. This.
Koke Posted 15 April 2009 Posted 15 April 2009 Why no Everton players?Cahill, Jagielka and Fellaini have all impressed. Cahill has more than "impressed"
TrickyTrev Posted 15 April 2009 Posted 15 April 2009 Just shows the intelligence of footballers. Hopefully the players who missed out will be recognized in the proper awards. Proper Awards? You mean the ones given out by the esteemed football writers in the country?
