Katy Posted 16 April 2009 Posted 16 April 2009 Source'Nobody gets promotion on our ground' especially Leicester Leicester City visit Roots Hall on Saturday top of the table and knowing a win would clinch promotion and the League One championship. However Macca, talking to the Echo, wants to make sure they wait another few days at least: "You don't want another team to be on your ground dancing around and celebrating success because it hurts. So we want to spoil their party this weekend and it's a really big game because they obviously have plenty to play for and I still think we do as well so it's going to be very exciting." Southend, who have won 12 of their last 16 matches, remain five points outside the top six with just three games to go but Macca is refusing to give up on a play-off place just yet. "It's still mathematically possibly so we have to keep on going. We seem to do better against the bigger teams and even though we lost to MK Dons it was a really good performance and we will need another one on Saturday. Leicester look like they will be going up so it could be the last time we play them for a while so we want to make the most of it." Well he can bugger off!
General Smuts Posted 16 April 2009 Posted 16 April 2009 Good to see they're as up for this game as we are. Looking forward to a good game. COME ON THE BLUES! Smurf's love Bukkake.

Joe. Posted 16 April 2009 Posted 16 April 2009 MK are away at S****horpe so should they drop any points at all there we're up regardless. A win here would be sexy as though.. CHAMPIONES CHAMPIONES OLE OLE OLE!

Tubes Posted 16 April 2009 Posted 16 April 2009 I hope them silly gift shop places you get at the seaside are getting well stocked up on beachballs and bananas in time for the Leicester invasion.
Daggers Posted 16 April 2009 Posted 16 April 2009 Referee for what may be Leicester's promotion party, regardless of the result, is Clive Penton, from Sussex. A bit of a Graham Poll look-a-like, he is in his 8th and final season as a League referee. It is probably just as well he is nearing retirement age as he certainly isn't the quickest around the pitch.Has been at Roots Hall loads of times, usually accompanied by loads of cards. His first visit was in 2001/2 when we beat ten-man Swansea 4-2 thanks to two penalties. Last season he sent off Matt Harrold against Yeovil and also did the home match against Doncaster .. not the play off. The season before he did the Ipswich home game, producing 8 yellows and the Yeovil away game when he dismissed Adam Barratt. This season he has maintained an above-average card count. Assistants are John Hayto from Springfield, Chelmsford and Sam Lewis from Bedfordshire with Gary Evetts from Hertfordshire acting as 4th official. Source
Tubes Posted 16 April 2009 Posted 16 April 2009 I agree Kep. Fun fun fun! I'm so excited. Feeling that. Drunken misbehaviour?
Daggers Posted 16 April 2009 Posted 16 April 2009 ...one other thing to bear in mind, this will more like as not be our very last ever visit to Roots Hall. As of the end of next season they will be moving into their new stadium. The inexorable march of progress crushing old stadia underfoot!

Wycombe Fox Posted 16 April 2009 Posted 16 April 2009 Info taken from http://www.footballgroundguide.com/southend_united/ What Is It Like For Visiting Supporters? Away fans are housed in the North Stand, which is now all seated after being a former terrace. Like most former terraces that have had seats bolted onto them, the leg room and height distance between each row is less than desirable. The large number of supporting pillars will probably also impede your view; although this does not make for a great experience at least the Stand is covered. Up to 2,000 away fans can be accommodated in the North Stand, although the initial allocation is 1,200. One good thing for away fans in the North Stand, is that comparatively few numbers of fans can really make some noise from it. On my last visit there was quite a good atmosphere and I experienced no problems around the ground. Refreshments within the away area are served from an 'Transport Cafe' type establishment, complete with tables and chairs. The usual range is available such as Pukka Pies (£2.20), cheeseburgers (£2.80) and hot dogs (£2.80). Bear in mind though, that getting your drinks in one piece back to your seat can be quite a challenge. The front of the stand is below pitch level, with stairs leading up to each pitch access point where the stewards stand. Going up and down these flights of stairs, with a cup of coffee in each hand, can present a problem. Even though Roots Hall is an older ground it has some rather modern electronic turnstiles. Each match ticket has a bar code printed onto it and fans insert their ticket into a bar code reader at the turnstile to gain entrance to the stadium. I did notice once inside the stadium, that the stewards were alerted when a concession or junior ticket was being used, so that they could check that it was for the appropriate person. Where To Drink? With the demise of the Golden Lion, the choice for away fans has become somewhat limited. The closest pub to the ground the Spread Eagle is for home fans only, along with the Blue Boar that is a little further on up the road. This really only leaves the 'The Bell', a large Toby Carvery, which you pass on your way into Southend on the A127. David Wells informs me; 'There is the Bar Victoria Court, which is located further down the A127 from Roots Hall towards Southend. It is not a traditional football pub by any means but it is okay for pre-match pint'. The town centre is around a 20 minute walk away, where there are plenty of pubs including a Wetherspoons outlet (the Last Post on Clifftown Road). There are also a number of bars along the seafront, which can be quite nice on a a sunny Saturday afternoon. The 'Shrimpers Bar' at the ground itself, is now for members only. Please note that alcohol is not served to away fans within the stadium. There is also a good fish and chip shop located across the road from the Blue Boar by the traffic lights, called the 'Fish House', which I found to be excellent. Judging by the amount of fans standing outside eating fish and chips (there is some seating inside as well), then I'm not the only one that thinks it is good.

The inexorable march of progress crushing old stadia underfoot! That 'tunnel' to their new ground includes a shopping centre. Sick, urgh! Also work hasn't started, so it's hopeful that it will be complete if we get promoted and they don't.
Simi Posted 16 April 2009 Posted 16 April 2009 Southend end starts tomorrow night. Poker round my gaff with the boys then going straight from mine to Southend for some beer > game > hotel > beer > hotel. Yes, yes oh yay.
Daggers Posted 16 April 2009 Posted 16 April 2009 Pub recommendations: Near the ground - you aren't going to get a beer near the ground. In a car - either stop off at the soulless places on the A127 on your way in or stop before Southend. Get your driver to take you to Leigh on Sea or Prittlewell as there's some cracking pubs there. Town centre - there are the typical collection of chain pubs, The Last Post being the better of the options. Next to O'Neills there used to be a wonderful little bar in a back street and outdoor benches. Seaside - It's a 30 minute stomp/40 minute walk to the ground going back through the town centre but it is the only place to go for real ale or ladies breasts.
