Dan Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 ...Stoke did us a massive favour, getting us out the league where we had been finishing in poor positions for years, finally we can go into a season in that League off the back of a good year.
Matt Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 This time a year ago, I was sat here staring into a screen worrying about 'what if' and what happens next, pissed like now - but a depressed pissed, not being able to sleep about what will happen in the next few hours, waiting for the Stoke game to happen. At 5pm a minutes silence? No, a celebration and thank-you to season 2007-08 for giving us a blessing in disguise, as much as we didn't want it relegation something we had cheated for seasons previous had to happen for us in order for us to move on a take a few steps forward, IMO, a blessing is disguise. To the future
Rise Against Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Well, that's true. But i don't sure if it worth the pain we felt on that bloody day. We are back in the game now anyway, so we need to look to the future.
teblin Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 I've been sitting here this morning feeling a bit down. Think its just remembering last year. That day will still be the worst footballing day of my life. I guess it was a blessing, but we don't know what would've happened if we'd have stayed up.

I guess it was a blessing, but we don't know what would've happened if we'd have stayed up. Or how we are going to do this season - sure it's been a great season but unless we use it to take us up the Championship it might all have been in vain. I'm naturally pessimistic so I'll wait until next seasons over before I judge it as being good for us.
Jay Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Last season I just thought "Oh well" I think to an extent that sums it up just about perfect a huge amount of people had started to become disillusioned with the club after years of rubbish football, players who didn't seem to give a crap about the club, a revolving door of managers and players it got to the point of "oh well" going to matches almost became a chore the atmosphere all around the club was rotten to the core. BUT NOW... I think to an extent we have all fallen in love with the club again we have pride, passion and belief a manager who has given us a team that play for each other and the shirt which in turn has a big impact on the fans
J.Lisemore Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Not sure what i was doing to be honest, apart from punching the door in anger, i didn't do alot. And i couldn't even bring myself to play FIFA that night
maddog Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 That was a bad day but not half as bad as Wycombe fooking Wanderers. We will probably never get a better chance to win the Fa Cup than that. And that game started the downfall to League One.
smokey Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Going down got rid of Holloway... Enough said. And we wouldnt have had Pearson so all in all it was good for the club! I really fancy us to have a good season in the Championship!

maddog Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 I don't actually see how you can compare the two Worst day of my footballing life by a country mile. Theres always going to be another season of 46 games to recover. But we may never get to a Fa Cup quarter final against that lower League side at home again. And we were stuck in a rut of just surviving the drop, and it was awful for so long, i haven't really missed that this season.

And that game started the downfall to League One. Yeah, just the prospect of facing Liverpool then Arsenal. Stoke was by far the worst day this football club has had. Before then, It was Wycombe.
Salieri Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 What a depressing day it was. I remember coming back from the pub feeling like it was the end of the world, had visions of us being stuck down there for years to come! To top it off I had a row with the missus later that evening (after drowning my sorrows some more!). Apparently, I blamed her for Leicester getting relegated because she wouldn't come to the pub with me to cheer them on! I don't remember this at all... What a different feeling now, just can't wait for the new season to begin.....
maddog Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Yeah, just the prospect of facing Liverpool then Arsenal. Stoke was by far the worst day this football club has had. Before then, It was Wycombe. IMO if we had stayed up we would have had season after season of misery in that League before eventually going down anyway. Now we actually have a chance of doing well there next season. We had beaten Liverpool in that season hadn't we?

We had beaten Liverpool in that season hadn't we? Exactly what I started the topic for. We can finally go into a Championship season with some enthusiasm, a real good team atmosphere and money

Guest Bilo Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Have to agree with those that said Stoke last year was the worst day in our history. Falling to the lowest point in our history will never hold anything other than terrible memories. I was convinced that we would be staying in League One for years rather than months, and was resigned to the play-offs at best this season. Convinced that Milan would appoint the wrong man again, and the managerial merry-go-round would continue unabated. For the first time, I felt embarrassed to call myself a Leicester fan, especially in Skegness where 'lifelong' Forest fans had mysteriously started coming out of the woodwork the day before. The twelve months that followed this terrible day however have been pretty bloody fantastic. The way we outclassed MK Dons on the first day really built the optimism for the season ahead, and even our defeat to Millwall a few weeks later didn't really puncture it. We knew fairly early on that we were the best team in the league, and that a long term wobble probably wasn't going to materialise. I can honestly say that the win over Leeds that all but confirmed our immediate return to the Championship was the best feeling I've had in football since the 2000 Worthington Cup final. Not because of beating Leeds (before the WACCOErs start), but because of the atmosphere our fans created and the fact we all knew what had been achieved. Something that Nottingham Forest, Sheffield Wednesday, Manchester City or Leeds United were unable to do, promotion from this division as champions at the first attempt. Now, unlike this time last year, I actually feel optimistic about next season. I know we have a great manager in Nigel Pearson, with a good eye in the transfer market who can psyche up his team for big occasions. Milan realises this too, and is happy to back him up with the money he needs to complete the job, just as he did with Harry Redknapp at Portsmouth. Perhaps this time next year we can look back on that day at Stoke and say it was a blessing in disguise, because it brought Pearson to us, as well as a brilliant new chapter in the club's history.
lou Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 I never thought Id stop crying By the time wed left Stoke and got to Pizza Hut though hysteria had set in and we were laughing again. Part of me thought that it was going to be the making of this club and I still think maybe it is! Horrible horrible day though made worse by the Stoke fans laughin their tits off at us.
clazkel Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 I was soo depressed when we lost to Stoke, its hard to describe how i felt, absolutely gutted. To have been relegated was bad enough but when their fans ran on the pitch, our players disappeared and their fans were laughing at us and sticking their fingers up, that was harsh. When we got back to the car i put my scarf out the window and a Stoke fan said, watch you scarfs falling down, and started laughing along with afew other fans, i wasn't impressed! At least at Crewe our fans didn't rub it in their faces. But then this season was the best, im just hoping we carry on winning next season and have as much fun! Bring on the Championship! If we hadn't been relegated then we wouldn't have had this season so maybe it was a blessing in disguise, as this season has sure been fun. I just hope we don't come back to earth with a bump next season
CosbehFox Posted 4 May 2009 Posted 4 May 2009 Ironically poetic that we had to play Crewe on the weekend and pass the Britannia. When the next time we play at the Britannia comes....it could be some atmosphere.
