Hitesh Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 From Le Merc Hands off Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson - Milan Mandaric Wednesday, May 13, 2009, 08:00 Milan Mandaric has issued a firm "hands off" to any clubs interested in Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson. It is inevitable that City's convincing promotion out of League One at the first attempt will draw attention from clubs looking for a new boss. At one point last season, Pearson was linked with Middlesbrough, a side he captained, as manager Gareth Southgate struggled to keep them away from the Premier League relegation zone. It is sometimes a price a successful club might suffer, but City chairman Mandaric is convinced it is not one that he will end up paying. He said: "We are proud to have Nigel as our manager and I am confident he will stay with us. "His job has not gone unnoticed, and I would hate to think of that, but I cannot avoid the question. "We don't want it to happen. Whether we will be approached or not is hard to say, although I would not be surprised. "But I expect him to be manager of the year – with us!" Having found the right man for the job at last, Mandaric wants some continuity because City need to build on the momentum from their League One title winning campaign in the Championship. Mandaric would hate to suffer another managerial change beyond his control. He said: "I brought in a manager in Gary Megson before, and he was taken away from me and that destroyed the season. "It would be very difficult for me to swallow that again. "But Nigel is a proper guy, he looks you in the eye, shakes you by the hand and you can trust in that. "So I don't think I have misjudged him on that. "So for that reason, from his loyalty, his firmness and his commitment on the one hand, and on the other the support he got from me and the fans, I would find it hard to believe he would think of leaving." Oh really!
carterfox90 Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 if middlesborough go down they will definately come calling as he was a hero up their & that will tempting for him
Ultra Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 We're a bigger club than Boro. Why should he want to leave us?
Jon the Hat Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 if middlesborough go down they will definately come calling as he was a hero up their & that will tempting for him they may well come calling, but he would be mad to move on now. As a manager you need some length of service behind you.
willchafer Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 if he does leave. hope he dont. anyone be complaining with coppel? who got sacked btw if u didnt know...
BoneDog Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Coppell is a good manager, but Nigel is going nowhere. He loves it here, it's plain to see. He's got plans and ambitions for Leicester
Leicesterboi Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 if he does leave. hope he dont. anyone be complaining with coppel? who got sacked btw if u didnt know... For starters, Coppell resigned. And I think at the moment he would be a more attractive option for many clubs due to his experience in the top 2 leagues in our country. There is no escaping what a great job NP has done but I think, luckily for us, Coppell or Curbs would be higher on many clubs wish list. Despite all this, I think NP would stay and prove his worth with us. However, a tempting reason for him to go to Boro would be their Chariman Gibson. MM has a reputation for his lack of patience and Gibson is a Chairman that notoriously gives his managers time and backs them to the hills. From a job security point of view, he may be tempted by Boro'. All the above said, I beleive he will stay atleast for this season and see what he can achieve.
Granno Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 I think this time next season he will still be manager, unless an established Premier League club comes in. I can't see him leaving for another Championship club.
Matt Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 I see NP as a loyal person and to honour contracts, also he's the type of bloke who I imagine likes to see jobs through, but we've been naive proven wrong about these thoughts in the past. It just worries me MM knows something or has had hints of clubs sniffing round, but on the other hand we all know MM doesn't need an excuse to speak to the media and draw un-needed attention to himself, the club, managers and players.
RowlattsFox Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 I don't see anyone trying to poach Pearson to be honest, even Middlesboro. Not yet anyway.
Fox92 Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Hasen't he said he is keeping Southgate whatever Middlesborough do! Then again, thats all nonsence when/if they are actually relegated. I always thought that it would be Middlesborough or Sheffield Wednesday that come knocking. What about Reading? Now Steve has left them, but I think Boothroyd may get that job. ____________
Alf Bentley Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 I see NP as a loyal person and to honour contracts, also he's the type of bloke who I imagine likes to see jobs through, but we've been naive proven wrong about these thoughts in the past.It just worries me MM knows something or has had hints of clubs sniffing round, but on the other hand we all know MM doesn't need an excuse to speak to the media and draw un-needed attention to himself, the club, managers and players. Looking on the bright side, if MM is getting anxious about this (as opposed to just wanting to see his name in the media), hopefully he'll be more inclined to stump up transfer funds to keep NP sweet.. Like others, though, provided MM acts reasonably (!), I can't see NP leaving just now, except for a solid Premiership club...which he won't be offered due to inexperience. If Boro go down, I'm sure the likes of Downing and Tuncay will be off. They're partly in trouble due to lack of transfer funds and have a smaller fanbase than City (24,000 crowds for many games in Premiership this season). I reckons there's more chance of City going up within 2 years than Boro bouncing back. Plus, NP only has to do a fairly decent job at City (and he seems a self-confident bloke) and he'll probably have the chance to manage in the Premier League within 2-3 years, either elsewhere or, hopefully, at City.
maddog Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 If Boro stay up and Southgate goes i can understand him going there. But if they go down we are more likely to go up than them. They already have a shit squad and will lose their only decent players (Downing, O Neil) and their half decent ones (Tuncay, Aliadiere, Huth etc) Looking down Middlesbrough's squad you can see why their going down, its fooking shit.

If Boro stay up, Southgate will stay (why would he not?). But they won't stay up. However, Steve Gibson has announced that Southgate will stay even if Boro go down. In practice, I'd expect him to go if they weren't in the Championship promotion race by Nov/Dec...but why would NP then want to move from a successful Championship club to an unsuccessful one?
flanimal Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 Everything I heard NP and Steve Walsh say about City, they talk about building a future, long term. This could just be lies, but you'd like to think not everyone is another Mark McGee/Gary Megson. Those kind of people are twats. Although, I think both of them are crap managers anyway. Hope NP stays. Hopefully the adoration of the supporters will persuade him to sta long term. O'Neill could've left early on, and he stayed for six years due mainly to this reason.

I think NP is a honourable & loyal geezer, & I expect him to be our manager next season. However, if he has a successful season in The Championship, then that's when we should start to worry, because that's when the poachers will be after him. Let's face it, if us 'ordinary' working guys were head-hunted,it's very tempting when big bucks are flashed at you! I think, just as was the case with Martin O'God, it will have to be something very special to take Big Nige & his staff away from City. Fingers crossed! I doubt there is a City supporter around that doesn't respect & admire Nigel, & he must be aware of that, great guy, great manager, keep hold of him Milan!
flanimal Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 If he got us in the Premier League, he surely would stay on. I think when managers ditch their clubs at the first opportunity, they get a reputation as a ditcher. If Pearson does great things for Leicester, gets us in the Premier League etc and gets us to stay there, I can't really grumble if he moved to a bigger club - kind of like O'Neill - I never expected MON to stay with us forever. If the club moves in the right direction, he could stay longer than O'Neill. Leicester was a different club in 2000 when O'Neill left. Hope NP stays though. First good manager we had in 12 years or so.
foxoffderby Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 it said in the paper the other day gibson chairman of borough will stand by southgate in the championship
Bert Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 If Pearson is already making signings, he won't be leaving here in the near future.
Joe. Posted 13 May 2009 Posted 13 May 2009 If Pearson is already making signings, he won't be leaving here in the near future. Especially when he's signing expensive players like Cox. There's nobody manager-less in the Premiership at the moment and moving to another Championship would be a step sideways at the moment. He won't be going anywhere anytime soon.
Mort Posted 14 May 2009 Posted 14 May 2009 "Reading want Watford manager Brendan Rogers to replace Steve Coppell, while also on their list of candidates are Tony Adams, Nigel Pearson and Lawrie Sanchez." - The Sun
Bryn Posted 14 May 2009 Posted 14 May 2009 Yeah saw that too http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport...icle2427847.ece I hope he won't be going anywhere. I don't believe he will leave us for a club he has no affinity for, I reckon he genuinely believes that in the next few years we could make the Premier League. I don't see us as a small club in the Champo merely cause we've just come up, this league don't work like that. We've got the resources to challenge at the top but it's all about how the club is run and Pearson is good at that.
