DJ Back!

SEASIDE favourite DJ Campbell is the next name on Ian Holloway's wanted list.

After completing the loan signing of highly-rated Arsenal youngster Jay Emmanuel-Thomas, the Pool boss revealed he is actively chasing the frontman and is attempting to complete a deal.

Whether or not Holloway succeeds remains to be seen, but the manager's revelation will delight Blackpool fans who fell in love with Campbell during his spell at the club last season.

The striker blasted nine goals in 19 appearances during a loan stay.

And Holloway, whose search for a striker has hotted up because of injuries to Daniel Nardiello who yesterday underwent an operation on his groin and Ben Burgess, knows Campbell would fit the bill.

"I had a chat with DJ's manager (Leicester boss Nigel Pearson) which I thought was fantastic. He told me I could talk to DJ, which is really unusual, so I did," said Holloway.

"I rang him and told him what we are trying to do and what I am trying to do.

"I've left my chairman talking to them. It started off as a loan, then it moved to a permanent.

"Whether we can dream of sorting that I don't know, but we'll give it our best shot.

"We'll see what happens but it's not in our hands because of his wages.

"Unless he decides to come down to where we are it is probably going to make it a non-starter.

"But I've promised people I really want to make a difference here and if I brought DJ back at least I'd be then starting with who did well last year and what we had last year, which was DJ and Charlie Adams"

We'll still be losing out massively, even if he does go to Blackpool.

So?

We were never going to get back the 1.6m we paid for him and the god knows what he has received in salary.

Any money we get for him is better than having a dead man walking hanging around.

Even if we pay half his salary I'll be glad to see the back of him.

i was talking about the DJ info...

its nothing we havnt heard before.

It's nothing new that Blackpool are interested. But what is new is the fact that it looks like they've made another move for him in the last few days. Let's hope DJ will be attracted to playing first team football, and be willing to have lower wages, I'm not sure he will though :dunno:

I know what you meant but it is the latest news, enough links to it on Newsnow.

We can only hope, no use praying as their isn't a god

Ah nice. If we are talking to Blackpool then presumably we are after working out a payoff so he will take the drop in wages. I can see this happening. DJ will want to go as long as he feels suitably compensated. And why not, it is not his fault we gave him a stupid wage, and he has every right to it.

Haven't Blackpool him an influx of cash?

So it could be that they'll be prepared to pay him a signing on fee in lieu of part of his wages that comes to less than what his overall wage at Leicester would have been.

What is his weekly wage?

£20k apparently. :dunno:

I see no reason to change what I have been saying for months - we won't get a new striker till DJ has gone, only then will the club know exactly what they can afford in fees and wages, also Blackpool will pay slightly more than they would want to but we will pay DJ a severance sum so that Blackpool can retain their pay structure.

This seems to me quite likely to happen at last, because Blackpool do have a bit more cash available now. The fee will be 'undisclosed', for obvious reasons - however negotiations may take a day or two or week or two.

I wasn't referring to the transfer fee, I know we're going to get next to nothing for him from Blackpool. We're going to be paying a huge chunk of his wages for another couple of years and not even have him in the squad... Horrible mistake in the first place to give him so much, and we'll pay for it.

Not if we get rid of him on a permanent, which has been mentioned in both the links.

I'm pretty sure we'd pay him off in some way.

Whether he's on 20 or 24k per week you can be sure of one thing, Blackpool will not pay anywhere near that amount.

We're going to have to stump up 50% of his salary as a minimum.

10k per week is a good salary in this division and I'm not sure that Blackpool can or want to pay that much.

We'd only have to pay him off if we were terminating his contract, not if he was moving on a permanent transfer.

He's never going to accept such a significant pay-cut to join Blackpool, no chance.

It is not whether we have to pay him of, it's whether we want to, to get rid of him. Let me explain, let's say we want £500k for him, but Blackpool can't afford to pay him what he wants but they could get to within £250k of the wages he wants. We would then charge Blackpool £750k and give DJ his £250k just to go. That would be the way forward for Blackpool if they have a pay structure they need to stick to. As far as I know they can pay whatever transfer fee they want to, so that would work. Simples!

According to a few blackpool fans i work with the rumours going around on their fansites are that he has agreed wages are its just the fee between us and blackpool to be sorted. Would be great if its true but not getting my hopes up

Well if that is true a half sucked smartie and a flat frog will do for me.

Salary wise it will save us up to 2 million over the next 2 seasons.
