Sly Posted 24 May 2009 Posted 24 May 2009 I thought this was going to be a topic on the long running saga about a Prem 1 (16 teams) then a Prem 2 (16 teams)!
Hitesh Posted 24 May 2009 Posted 24 May 2009 I thought this was going to be a topic on the long running saga about a Prem 1 (16 teams) then a Prem 2 (16 teams)! That's what I thought. Been talked about but won't see any developments until at least 2013 when the new TV deal runs out. And on topic: Either way, its gonna be a tough old league but think we have the best foundations possible to do well!

In principle, I like the idea of a "UK" league Premier league. Think about it for a moment - If we have two leagues of 16 teams - then European qualification would be as follows: PREM 1 1. Leicester City - Champions League (England) 2. Manchester United - Champions League (England) 3. Arsenal - Champions League (England) 4. Liverpool - Champions League (England) 5. Chelsea - Europa League (England) 6. Manchester City - Europa League (England) 7. Everton 8. Aston Villa 9. Rangers - Champions League (Scotland) 10. Tottenham 11. Fulham 12. Celtic - Champions League (Scotland) 13. West Ham 14. Wigan 15. Stoke City 16. Bolton PREM 2 1. Portsmouth 2. Blackburn Rovers 3. Hull 4. Middlesbrough 5. Hearts - Europa League (Scotland) 6. Wolverhampton 7. Newcastle United - Europa League (UK) - League Cup winners 8. Cardiff - Champions League (Wales) 9. Swansea - Europa League (Wales) 10. Bristol City 11. Burton Albion - Europa League (UK) - FA Cup winners 12. Sunderland 13. Glentorran - Champions League (N Ireland) 14. Rhyl FC - Europa League (Wales) 15. Dundee United - Europa League (Scotland) 16. Aberdeen - Europa League (Scotland) The above standings are by no means my way of implying I like one club more than another. The concept may need some work also.

FilboFox Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Why fix something that simply isn't broken! Leave the leagues as they are and be done with it...
billyfox1 Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 The phrase "Premiership 2" makes me want to vom. It's makes more sense than having League 1 as the 3rd division. At least that will actually be the second division
FilboFox Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Yes... the names of the divisions are ridiculous... they should rename them all so they are in order. Premiership Division 2 Division 3 Division 4 Conference Conference N/S

Under your proposed system the top division of the Football League is Division 2, which is just as odd, if not more so.
Corky Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 It should be- Premier League Division One Division Two Division Three It worked perfectly well for 12 years.

Under your proposed system the top division of the Football League is Division 2, which is just as odd, if not more so. The only reason I had put it as Division 2 is because that is the second division in English football... even if it is a separate entity, it is still the second league in the scale of things and so should be called so... but yes, I do see your point.

But the Conference is a separate entity and that still gets its own name!
john_lcfc Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 But the Conference is a separate entity and that still gets its own name! Blue Square Premier, to be precise

Hmmmm... you could be wrong because 'Premier' in French is first so... either way you could be right or wrong. I say just scrap 'Premiership' and have Divisions 1, 2, 3 & 4.

I say just scrap 'Premiership' and have Divisions 1, 2, 3 & 4. you couldn't do that FFS - it's just too bloody logical and straightforward. besides, if you changed the name of the premiership, there would be an outside chance of the top 4 clubs not selling as many shirts in malaysia. our national game would be in meltdown.
maddog Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Premiership Championship League One League Two Blue Square Premier Blue Square north/south Sounds good to me
