Basingstoke Fox Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Link Portsmouth are close to being taken over by United Arab Emirates businessman Sulaiman Al Fahim, BBC Sport understands.Al Fahim was the frontman for Abu Dhabi United Group when it took over Manchester City in September 2008. Pompey, who finished 14th in the Premier League this season, have yet to make any comment on the proposed deal. Gaydamak, who has been at the club since January 2006, stated late last year that he wanted to sell. He revealed he had rejected two offers for the south coast outfit as he wanted to sell to a buyer who would be committed to funding a new stadium and training ground for the club. According to arabianbusiness.com, Gaydamak held talks with Al Fahim ahead of the Champions League final in Rome. Gaydamak initially bought into Pompey as joint owner when he struck a deal with then-chairman Milan Mandaric. He then bought out Mandaric, who now owns Leicester City, for about £32m. Under the Franco-Russian's ownership the club won the 2008 FA Cup but he has said he can "no longer invest the time required to oversee the running of the club". Holy Sh*t good times for Portsmouth if true.
C-man Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 It's getting ridiculous now. Man City and now Portsmouth.
Big Ol' Bob Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Who cares, if you can't beat them join them, eventually everyone is going to be taken over and it will be a level playing field again. TRUST ME.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 27 May 2009 Author Posted 27 May 2009 SSN claims that Portsmouth have accepted an offer.
Finnegan Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 lol If you were going to buy a football club, why the fuck would you buy Pompey?!
dandannieldanok Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 lolIf you were going to buy a football club, why the fuck would you buy Pompey?! Probably going cheap, Gaydamak is desperate to get rid.
Babylon Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Holy Sh*t good times for Portsmouth if true. Were we bought for £32m? No... read it again.
Basingstoke Fox Posted 27 May 2009 Author Posted 27 May 2009 No... read it again. Oh yeah I misread that badly, my bad.
act smiley Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 lolIf you were going to buy a football club, why the fuck would you buy Pompey?! Cause of the teams with owners gagging to sell, they've won the cup more recently than Newcastle
Thracian Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 lolIf you were going to buy a football club, why the fuck would you buy Pompey?! Why not? Premiership club. Virtually captive audience given Southampton's demise and no other serious competition in the area. Nice location, good communication routes, easy drive to the capital and therefore an attractive enough proposition for prospective players. You you even interview potential signings on your yacht in Cowes. Seems there's plenty going for it.
Hitesh Posted 27 May 2009 Posted 27 May 2009 Who cares, if you can't beat them join them, eventually everyone is going to be taken over and it will be a level playing field again.TRUST ME. I was thinking that earlier but its gonna be a case of who has the most money out of the people with the most moeny, if that makes sense! It will happen to all the clubs eventually and it will just be a case of waiting until the money spreads evenly..
StanSP Posted 28 October 2009 Posted 28 October 2009 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...uth/8329673.stm Portsmouth have been banned from making new signings until they settle transfer debts owed to other English clubs. The Premier League blocked Pompey manager Paul Hart's attempt to sign midfielder Eugen Bopp on Monday. And they will not lift the ban until the club, who are bottom of the Premier League, have settled their debts. A club insider told BBC Sport the problem "should be resolved quickly" but the transfer ban will raise fresh questions about the club's finances. Saudi businessman Ali Al Faraj took over at Portsmouth three weeks ago, buying a 90% stake from previous owner Sulaiman Al Fahim. Last week, Al Faraj was quoted in the Saudi newspaper Asharq Al-Awsat as saying he was "no billionaire", knew nothing about sport and wanted to sell the club quickly. Israeli mogul Levi Kushnir and Hong Kong-based Balram Chainrai have subsequently emerged as potential investors in the club and have attended Pompey's last two matches, Tuesday's 4-0 Carling Cup win over Stoke and Saturday's 0-0 league draw at Hull. Another short transfer ban was imposed on the club at the end of August because of debts they owed, BBC Sport understands. With seven players unavailable for the Stoke game, Hart was eager to sign Bopp, who he had managed at Nottingham Forest. The 26-year-old, who was a free agent after being released by Crewe in the summer, had been training with Portsmouth for the last few weeks. However, the Premier League refused to register the player because of Portsmouth's debts. The transfer ban is the latest in a long line of off-the-field problems for manager Hart. There was a delay in the players' wages being paid in September, while the club was on the brink of administration in August. "A club needs to know where it is going and have a long-term plan," stated Hart ahead of the game with Stoke. "I wouldn't like to go any further with that because I haven't had these conversations with the new owners. I would anticipate this would be in the next month."
Guest Posted 28 October 2009 Posted 28 October 2009 Christ on a bike! It's becoming a farce. I actually feel really sorry for Paul Hart
Edmund Posted 28 October 2009 Posted 28 October 2009 So does that mean their out the running for Davids
AjcW Posted 28 October 2009 Posted 28 October 2009 Why the fuck would you buy eugen bopp!! They deserve banning just for that!
Guest Bilo Posted 28 October 2009 Posted 28 October 2009 I have a lot of time for Pompey and fear for their future. They're surely going down to the Championship, and if that happens they could well go into financial meltdown and probably don't have the fanbase to get themselves out of what would be a pretty awful mess.
Koke Posted 28 October 2009 Posted 28 October 2009 I hate them cunts. I hope they crash and burn, get relegated and fall down the league like a sack of shit ala Reading.
lavrentis Posted 28 October 2009 Posted 28 October 2009 I hate them cunts. I hope they crash and burn, get relegated and fall down the league like a sack of shit ala Reading. This, been punching above their weight for some time now, and their stadiums shit.

Wycombe Fox Posted 28 October 2009 Posted 28 October 2009 I hate them cunts. I hope they crash and burn, get relegated and fall down the league like a sack of shit ala Reading. I agree - ever since their 'fans' threw half-bricks at me whilst carrying my lad, who was only four at the time, back to Fratton station in November 2002. Complete b*stards!! If I could just get hold of that ****ing bell...
